I’ve always wanted to sample it and turn it into something else funky, so I took a few days on tryin different ideas to make a whole new melody out of Stevie playing the Fender Rhodes. There aren’t too many artists today that can remake a classic, put there own stamp on it, & it still comes out sounding just as good if not better than the original. One of my favorite soul singers from my hometown of Philly, Jill Scott, proves with this remake of Bill Withers’ 70’s classic why she’s one of the best of our generation. Speaking of generations, this video featuring the next generation of youngsters coming up in the world was released by Jill’s former label Hidden Beach as a part of the “Have A Lovely Day” campaign encouraging random acts of kindness and volunteerism.

Robert Glasper is set to release his “Black Radio” album that I’m very much looking forward to this February 28th. The album will be an infusion of Blues, Jazz, R&B, Hip Hop, Rock, & a variety of other ingredients that should musically define what “Black Radio” should be. A few of the songs that leaked early featuring Erykah Badu, Musiq Soulchild, Chrisette Michele, & R&B trio King let’s me know that this is shaping up to be a very good project. I was on the fence whether I should post this video or not, but I’m a guy who may like a song strictly for the visuals alone. Detroit’s Mike Posner looks like he maybe trying to jump into the Justin Timberlake R&B lane although most of the music I’ve heard from him sounds more electronic or stadium type techno leaning. Clearly my favorite song that he appears on is “French Inhale” that he collaborated with Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa on for the “Mac + Devin Goe To High School“ album that’s out now. Even if you don’t like the song, fellas enjoy the visuals of the ladies in the clip. Maybe subconsciously that’s the primary reason I posted this…
Boyz II Men Get Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame (Video)

It’s almost a tragedy how black radio & fans today don’t quite give Boyz II Men the props they deserve. Recently I was in a debate with a young lady about the significance of Boyz II Men, but she tried to tell me that Boyz II Men were wack. I just started to think of how bad radio has become today for someone to actually say out of their mouth that Boyz II Men were wack. What she failed to realize was that Boyz II Men carried on a tradition of great male R&B groups who kept it classy & who harmonized well. There’s nothing wrong with that at all. Most R&B sucks today because there’s little to no love in it. Where are the great groups who can actually sing & harmonize acapella? What’s wrong to me is Boyz II Men just received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame & I feel there was almost little to no black press about this great honor that the group was awarded.

D’Angelo has been missing for a while, and even though this is not a piece of his newest material, the releasing of any material from the soul singer is a good sign for his fans (including myself) who wants a return to the Brown Sugar and Voodoo days. According to ?uestlove this is an cover of SoundGarden’s classic “Black Hole Sun” recorded 8 years ago, but a part of warming the public up to D’Angelo as the new album is “97%” complete. We hear this all the time from artists who go on these long layoffs (see Lauryn Hill) and never get around to actually putting any material out that the people so desperately want to hear. However since ?uestlove is involved, this situation may provide a better outcome. Besides that, this is a pretty dope cover of a classic tune. Enjoy!
