Tall Black Guy – “Up In The Sky” (Too High ReEdit)

One of the dopest producers on the rise Tall Black Guy does it again….Wooooooo! This jawn is niiiiiiice! Check what he had to say about this smoothed out Stevie Wonder flipped banger below….

“Stevie Wonder’s Too High’ joint is so sick to me. I really haven’t heard anybody outside of Madlib flip it for the Alkaholiks‘All Night’  joint, which was sick! I’ve always wanted to sample it and turn it into something else funky, so I took a few days on tryin different ideas to make a whole new melody out of Stevie playing the Fender Rhodes. Here’s my re-edit of Stevie Wonders ‘Too High’ off the Innervisions album. Hope You Enjoy!” – Tall Black Guy

Styles P – Ain’t Got Time (Video)

Here comes the ghost Styles P with a new freestyle video for Miguel’s dope R&B joint “Sure Thing” that Styles ripped a nice freestyle over a few months ago….

R.I.P. – Etta James [1938-2012]

Etta James, the feisty & legendary R&B singer whose raw, passionate vocals made the love ballad “At Last” an enduring anthem, has died. James suffered from dementia, kidney problems and leukemia.”

President Obama Sings Al Green’s ‘Let’s Stay Together’ Kicking Off His 2012 Re-Election Campaign (Video)

While at the famed Apollo Theater last night in Harlem, the Commander-In-Chief President Barack Obama took a brief moment out of speech to his supporters to sing the Al Green classic “Let’s Stay Together” to kick off his 2012 presidential campaign. Funny…

R&B/Soul: Vikter Duplaix – “From Another World”

R&B soul singer, DJ, & Philly native Vikter Duplaix just dropped this joint a few days ago on the web & I’ve had it on repeat in the ipod several times throughout my day especially while working. I’ve been crazy busy the last few days so I didn’t have time to post this particular joint up until now. Some of you may have only associated Vikter Duplaix with being a DJ after his appearance on the Masters Of The Mix reality show & DJ competition, but it’s clear the brotha is reminding cats how talented he is with quality soulful gems like this right here….

Jill Scott – “Lovely Day” (Video)

There aren’t too many artists today that can remake a classic, put there own stamp on it, & it still comes out sounding just as good if not better than the original. One of my favorite soul singers from my hometown of Philly, Jill Scott, proves with this remake of Bill Withers’ 70’s classic why she’s one of the best of our generation. Speaking of generations, this video featuring the next generation of youngsters coming up in the world was released by Jill’s former label Hidden Beach as a part of the “Have A Lovely Day” campaign encouraging random acts of kindness and volunteerism.

Robert Glasper Experiment EPK (Video)

Robert Glasper is set to release his “Black Radio” album that I’m very much looking forward to this February 28th. The album will be an infusion of Blues, Jazz, R&B, Hip Hop, Rock, & a variety of other ingredients that should musically define what “Black Radio” should be.  A few of the songs that leaked early featuring Erykah Badu, Musiq Soulchild, Chrisette Michele, & R&B trio King let’s me know that this is shaping up to be a very good project. This EPK of Robert Glasper was shot by our homie Cognito who now resides in Los Angeles….

Grandma Does Usher Dance Moves (Video)

I thought this was gonna be comical when I first read the title, but Grandma actually did a pretty decent job with the Usher dance routine right here. That’s wasup! Usher likes older women so she better slow it down a little if she’s in Atlanta…Haha

Mark Ronson – “A La Modeliste” feat. Erykah Badu & Yasiin Bey

Mark Ronson assembles his crew of musicians including Erykah Badu & Mos Def Yasiin Bey for their contribution to the RE:GENERATION Project. RE:GENERATION is a documentary film that follows DJ Premier, Pretty Lights, The Crystal Method, Mark Ronson, and Skrillex as they remix, recreate and re-imagine five traditional styles of music. I’m diggin’ this joint right here, but who’s idea was it for this hook? Probably Erykah’s….Now that’s funky. hahaa!

Janet Jackson Appears on Jay Leno (Video)

Janet Jackson stopped by Jay Leno to promote her new book & she’s shed a few pounds. I know plenty of brothas may not like that, but she still looks good to me either way.  But it’s “Alriiiight With Meeeee”. Props to Yardie!

Brooke Taylor – “Dear Archer” (Video)

Japanese American R&B singer from L.A.,  Brooke Taylor drops the first video from her “L.O.V.E.” project that’s out out now. Check out the free album from her bandcamp page.

Mike Posner – Looks Like Sex (Video)

I was on the fence whether I should post this video or not, but I’m a guy who may like a song strictly for the visuals alone. Detroit’s Mike Posner looks like he maybe trying to jump into the Justin Timberlake R&B lane although most of the music I’ve heard from him sounds more electronic or stadium type techno leaning. Clearly my favorite song that he appears on is “French Inhale” that he collaborated with Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa on for the “Mac + Devin Goe To High School album that’s out now. Even if you don’t like the song, fellas enjoy the visuals of the ladies in the clip. Maybe subconsciously that’s the primary reason I posted this…

Boyz II Men Get Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame (Video)

It’s almost a tragedy how black radio & fans today don’t quite give Boyz II Men the props they deserve. Recently I was in a debate with a young lady about the significance of Boyz II Men, but she tried to tell me that Boyz II Men were wack. I just started to think of how bad radio has become today for someone to actually say out of their mouth that Boyz II Men were wack. What she failed to realize was that Boyz II Men carried on a tradition of great male R&B groups who kept it classy & who harmonized well. There’s nothing wrong with that at all. Most R&B sucks today because there’s little to no love in it. Where are the great groups who can actually sing & harmonize acapella? What’s wrong to me is Boyz II Men just received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame & I feel there was almost little to no black press about this great honor that the group was awarded.

Frank Ocean: BBC Sound Of 2012 (Video)

In the BBC news series Sound Of 2012 their focus follows the success of New Orleans’s own Frank Ocean as they speak with him on everything from his critically successful album Nostalgia, Ultra, the video concepts for the singles on the album, his favorite places to perform like London, & crafting new music for artists like Kanye West, Jay-Z, & others.

Jill Scott – ‘A Long Walk’ (Madlib Remix)

Madlib X Jilly from Philly?!?!?! I need this to happen on a project. This Remix is dope. Shouts to BammaLoveSoul.com

R&B: D’Angelo – “Black Hole Sun” (Cover)

D’Angelo has been missing for a while, and even though this is not a piece of his newest material, the releasing of any material from the soul singer is a good sign for his fans (including myself) who wants a return to the Brown Sugar and Voodoo days. According to ?uestlove this is an cover of SoundGarden’s classic “Black Hole Sun” recorded 8 years ago, but a part of warming the public up to D’Angelo as the new album is “97%” complete. We hear this all the time from artists who go on these long layoffs (see Lauryn Hill) and never get around to actually putting any material out that the people so desperately want to hear. However since ?uestlove is involved, this situation may provide a better outcome. Besides that, this is a pretty dope cover of a classic tune. Enjoy!

Robert Glasper Experiment feat. Erykah Badu – “Afro Blue”

Robert Glasper connects with everyone’s favorite Dallas Cowgirl with soul, Erykah Badu, for this jazzy track called “Afro Blue.” It’s the first jawn off of the upcoming “Black Radio” project from the Robert Glasper Experiment. In true step with his concept of what ideally “Black Radio” should be, the album which will be released on Blue Note records on February 28th will cross various boundaries in black music from hip hop, jazz, blues, R&B, & rock.  This joint right here is really chill….

R&B: The Dream – “Roc”

The Dream aka Mr. Terius Nash drops the first single from his upcoming album The Love IV: Diary Of A Madman. This joint is cool & I’m glad he toned down the unnecessary profanity on this joint. Call me what you want, but I don’t like a bunch of cursing all up in my R&B songs…

Jesse Boykins III – Zoner [Demo] (Video)

“There is a misconception when one is lost in themselves because society can miss the truth behind it. This video is a pure introduction to Jesse Boykins III’s soul and takes a piece of his mind and displays it for the world be a part of. There is the reality of being alone, but also the desire to lust for something that inspires and assists the creation of beauty, a Zoner.”
