Jilly from Philly is about to hit us with some new joints this year! Jill Scott is set to release a new album called ‘Light Of The Sun’ on Warner Bros & her former label Hidden Beach is going to drop a compilation album of unreleased joints called ‘Just Before Dawn’. I’m assuming the Hidden Beach project due later this year was a part of the agreement involving her break from her former label. That’s wasup! Check out the ‘Shame’ joint featuring Eve which is sort of a nod to the Special Ed classic ‘The Magnificient’. The ‘Lovely Day’ track is a cover of the Bill Withers classic too!

R&B/Soul: John West – ‘Lovely’ feat. Pusha T

One of my friends swears that I’ve seen John West perform while I was in L.A. on a visit but I can’t honestly remember. I gave her the ‘Oh ok’ acknowledgement, but I didn’t have much of a clue. I’ve seen a gazillion new artists perform in my lifetime. Apparently John West has been around for a while having been in rock bands & is now a solo artist signed to Island/Def Jam. I didn’t expect much when I came across this song in my email except for the fact that this song ‘Lovely’ was featuring Pusha T. I’m glad I checked this out because this joint is hot! John West seems like a mix between John Legend & Robin Thicke & I wouldn’t be surprised if the label was trying to push him into that ‘blue eyed soul’ lane. The positive side is John West doesn’t sound like anyone else in R&B/Soul today vocally speaking. This particular song reminds me of Kanye West’s ‘Heard Em Say’ from a musical perspective so I wonder if Yeezy had something to do with the collaboration in some way…..

Mashonda On The Cover Of KING Magazine (Video)

Swizz Beatz’s ex-wife & singer Mashonda graces the latest cover of KING Magazine due on newstands March 29th. Despite her R&B career not exactly taking off, Mashonda was always a very attractive woman. She had wifey type of look & a KING Magazine photoshoot & cover may have been long overdue. It could have been one of the reasons her R&B career didn’t take off like she may have wanted to because she was more in a motherly role & sort of unavailable to be that classy sex symbol male fans would lust over. Good for Swizzy, bad for thousands of brothas who may even thought there was a slim chance to try & holla. Now that she’s divorced she’s really steppin’ out with it. I’m sure alot of brothas don’t mind & if Swizz don’t want her……..
