Pharrell Williams Speaks On His Post-Election Feelings, “Hidden Figures” And More (Video)

In this sit-down, Pharrell also speaks on who “Happy” was originally for… goes into his love for A Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, living in Virginia, and much more! A lot of meat in a relatively short, but deep conversation. Pharrell Williams talks about the “Hidden Figures” movie – for which he served as producer and soundtrack composer. Even segueing into that early on got deep.

Don’t trust the polls…Millennials don’t answer house phones, and there’s 43 million Americans.

Well worth the half-hour. Peep.

Comedy: John Cena Lampoons The University Of Alabama’s Football Players’ Academic Performance On SNL (Video)

Three judges (Beck Bennett, Aidy Bryant, Kenan Thompson) play favorites while reviewing students’ (Mikey Day, Vanessa Bayer, John Cena) projects.

Okay, knowing that @ojones1 is on the squad and that he is an Alabama alum and die-hard Tide fan aside… this is hilarious! Shout to A Tribe Called Quest and Dave Chappelle for getting eyes back onto Saturday Night Live for real back a while ago. So glad to have caught this ep. Damn O-Jeezuz, your school’s athletes research many of those ’round orange bananas’? And banana peel crust for real?? BWAAAAAHAHAAAAA!

But fair is fair. Read the @ojones1 commentary/response/rebuttal/whatev after the jump!

As A Tribe Called Quest releases “We Got It From Here… Thank You 4 Your Service,” its final album after an 18-year break, Gayle King gets a tour of Q-Tip’s home studio in New Jersey.

ALERT: We have a Statik Selektah sighting. Stat Diddy is in the building! Plus, there’s more of the GayleTip tour after the jump.

The Black Opera -“Black Woman Is God” (Prod. By Magestik Legend)

Screen Shot 2016-10-16 at 2.09.05 PM

So often people will criticize mainstream artists for all saying the same things and sounding alike. Here at Jayforce.com we rather focus our energy on what we enjoy rather than destroy. The Black Opera always pushing the creative boundaries are back with a new single Black Woman is God. Produced by Magestik Legend this is Black empowerment set to a grooving beat. TBO has a new album titled African America dropping November 11th.

What came first? The Chicken or the egg. The African or indigenious Native American. What came first the chicken or the egg? A Tribe Called Quest or A Wu Tang Clan.

R.I.P. Phife

b63ac000b9fbb3b7789dbe86a77eaa37

We still cannot believe it. With great sadness but fondly cherished memories and thankfulness in our hearts, we at JayForce.com salute the recently departed Phife (aka Malik Boyce Taylor). Hip-Hop Nation stand up, salute and reminisce. You could just surf this site, imagine all the Phife-related posts removed, and get an idea of how deep the loss of the Phifer cuts. But you know what, the Tribe’s Five-Footer is not ‘lost’ to us; nor will he ever be. Remember how he spoke to and spoke life to J Dilla and Baatin in the Hereafter in his “Dear Dilla” tribute track a while back? Family, you can do the same thing even now; to and for whomever you have lost. Through the tears that will eventually give way to joy from knowing him… in whatever way you see fit from now on, you can speak life to the Brother #SpeakLifeToPhife

Your 45-year struggle here is done: Rest In Peace, Phife.

(Think ESPN is the only network that can weave Hip-Hop into the broadcast ever so nicely? NO! Watch the dopest news-school tribute to our fallen, but forever fresh friend Phife Dawg. After the jump, there’s all that and then some!)

The-Dream – “Black Magic”

89799f101fc3d33c65623ee44baab528This brand new joint called “Black Magic” from Atlanta singer & songwriter The-Dream has me hitting the repeat icon over & over again. This joint is certified dopeness from the ‘A Tribe Called Quest-Bonita Applebum’ drums to the actual songwriting itself. Mr. Terius Nash even delivers a rap verse late in the song that’s executed better than you average trap rapper on the mainstream radio waves. “Black Magic” is slated to appear on The-Dream’s upcoming EP called ‘Jewel’ which is the sequel to his current EP that’s out now called ‘Crown.’ I’m sure you get the picture that he’s creating with a full-length ‘Crown Jewel’ dropping on July 10th on Capitol Records. In the meantime you should do like me right now & just hit the repeat button on this ‘Black Magic’ joint. Superb Mr. Nash. Superb indeed.

The Phife Sports Network (PSN): Phife Dawg Narrates & Provides Game Analysis of Toronto Raptors vs. Los Angeles Clippers in Mini-Documentary (Video)

In case some of you may not be aware, Phife Dawg of the legendary rap group A Tribe Called Quest has been very active & vocal in sports for quite a number of years. In recent years he has appeared on ESPN, ESPN2, & various sportstalk radio programs around the country giving his opinion on everything from the NBA, NFL, NCAA College Basketball & more. There were rumors that Phife had some bigger plans in the works to further expand his sportscaster resume, but nothing stopping him from at least making inroads independently online with his own “PSN” or ‘Phife Sports Network.’ Check out one of the first video clips of Phife Dawg providing pre-game NBA analysis in great game that took place between the Toronto Raptors & the Los Angeles Clippers about a month ago on February 6th of this year. Phife Dawg & his manager DJ Rasta Root also performed at halftime while they were in Toronto that evening as well. In case you missed the footage from that, we have it below….

J-Live – “Not Listening” (Video)

New York raised but Atlanta based emcee J-Live drops a brand new video for ‘Not Listening’ off of his latest project ‘Around The Sun.’  J-Live takes aim at the subpar rappers flooding the music industry with weak & uninspiring music. Big ups to the homie J-Live who also features a few cameos from a few of my friends in this new clip. My homie DJ Rasta Root (manager & DJ for Phife Dawg formerly of A Tribe Called Quest) sent me this video of him playing the wack rapper in the clip while the beautiful hip hop head & model Serena AZ is the fly honey making the visuals even more prettier. Word to the LYTE….Y’all need to STOP, LOOK, & LISTENNNNN to this!
