Dej Loaf – “Me U & Hennessy” (Video)
It wasn’t too hard to recognize that Detroit artist Dej Loaf was a cutie despite the hardcore feel of her breakout hit ‘Try Me’ that introduced her to the world. I don’t know if it was entirely her idea or the people around her, but with her latest single ‘Me U & Hennessy’ they decided to switch it up a little bit in exploring her sensual side. The great camera work & lush visual feel by Director Solmaz Saberiwill definitely catches your eye, but without a shadow of a doubt it’s Dej Loaf’s unique beauty that is the primary element contributing to the artistic brilliance of the video. I can say the actual video made me dig the song & readily admit that I may have overlooked this track from her ‘Sell Sole’ project that dropped last year. I bet you Henny sales & record spins gonna go up with the release of this new video. Beautiful & Beautifully done ‘Detroit Girl’.

Tall Black Guy x Eric Lau x kidkanevil x Mr. Thing – “Thing Leaves The House” (Instrumental EP)
Great product above. In honor of RSD (Record Store Day) 2015, Tall Black Guy, Eric Lau, kidkanevil and Mr. Thing put out “Thing Leaves The House.” Can’t tell it better than DJ Gilla did for the First Word Records write-up:
Running an independent record label in 2015 is a tricky, (and some would say foolish) task. It is of course, a privilege to be given the responsibility to get an artist’s music out into the world, but the label’s side of the job is more about spreadsheets and sales ledgers than champagne and cigars. That is why last year’s Record Store Day was genuinely one of the most memorable and important days in the life of First Word. We released our first RSD release – Nothing Leaves The House, a project that was dreamt up on RSD 2012, and finally shared two years later. Unlike most records we release, we were able to be there as music fans discovered the record in the shops – an experience that was inspiring, humbling and ever so slightly addictive.
So we were always going to return with part two in 2015, this time with a twist. A year on from the day the trio of Eric Lau, Tall Black Guy and kidkanevil visited Mr. Thing’s collection to sample his records (where nothing could leave the house), we gathered them at London’s Love Vinyl record shop where he had brought one record from his collection for each producer. Their challenge was to make a beat from the individually chosen records: the results massively exceeded our expectations. Originally Mr. Thing was going to make a track from something in his collection too, but the three producers decided that he should go through the same process as they would. They picked a record from the racks of the shop (they had to find one he didn’t already own first) and his beat was created from that. The result is 4 tracks that truly capture the personalities of each producer, and a record that is born out of a heartfelt love of records – we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.
We’ll be back for round 3 in 2016…

TALL BLACK GUY X ERIC LAU X KIDKANEVIL X MR. THING – THING LEAVES THE HOUSE (INSTRUMENTAL EP)
Snoop Dogg – “So Many Pros” (Prod. By Pharrell Williams) [Video]
Incredible treatment for this video! All kinds of movie genres of the 1970s era touched on for content – Bond to Blaxploitation. Question: Has Snoop Dogg ever done anything with ‘Snoop’ from The Wire (aka Felicia Pearson). Well, she’s got a cameo in here. “Bush” (another thing certain 70s movies were know for) will have this single – “So Many Pros” – on it for the May 12, 2015, release. But you could pre-order now… if you wanted to… below.
Oddisee – “Belong To The World”
Love, honesty, and selflessness… that’s how Oddisee fights “The Good Fight.” It’s virtue meets Hip-Hop virtuoso.
For Oddisee, “The Good Fight†is about living fully as a musician without succumbing to the traps of hedonism, avarice, and materialism. It’s music that yields an intangible feeling: the sacral sound of an organ whine, brass horns, or a cymbal crash. It’s a meditation on our capacity to love and the bonds binding us together. It’s our ambition and greed warring with our sense of propriety – a list of paradoxes we all face when living and striving.
Even with the stacked odds against good music, and even good people, Oddisee refuses to submit. And look: To win the hearts and minds of people… FREE music! Sure you can stream “The Good Fight” (album), and buy if you like. But he goes further. Giving away a single (“Belong To The World”). Give it a listen. Hit the link below.
Thelonious Martin – “Corners of Your Mind” (Video)
Thelonious Martin with visuals for his “Corners of Your Mind.” Vocals by NYLO and Ksra. This is the first video for a single off the “Wünderkid” album. Linked below. Short, sweet… and mighty nice. Could be you want to get the mp3 track off the album and loop it for yourself, as you’ll want to hear it over and over.
Fashawn – “Confess” (Prod. By Exile) [Video]
New visuals from Fashawn, courtesy SKEE TV. This is for “Confess.” You can get this off “The Ecology” below if you want it. Worth it!
Batman v. Superman: The Dawn Of Justice (Teaser Trailer)
It appears from the title alone that this upcoming Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice film is just the beginning of DC Comics attempts to bring the ‘Justice League’ all together on the big screen. The title alone gives you the hint because “Dawn Of Justice”…. suggests…. “Dawn Of The Justice League’ with Aquaman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, & more heroes. Right now DC Comics is celebrating their 75th anniversary & all these films are kicking off at the right time for them. The ‘Justice League’ movie is rumored to come in 2017. Maybe I’m just getting ahead of myself, but I don’t believe I’m too far off with that opinion. In the meantime, just sit patiently until April 20, 2016 for when this new blockbuster ‘Batman Vs. Superman: The Dawn Of Justice’ film hits theaters.
Cam’ron “Keeps It 100” On The Topic Of Snitching On ‘The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore’ (Video)
Larry Wilmore with a good point above: How can the cops expect us to ‘snitch’ on their neighbors; yet they won’t tell the truth on their peers doing dirt and hiding behind the badge. Wilmore has been doing a great job with topic AND guest selection. Interesting perspectives on snitching; and more interesting, the poster child for the ‘No Snitching’ movement – Killa Cam – is there to weigh in. Will there be weak tea passed across the table for this “Keep It 100” segment of The Nightly Show?
Sean Price – “Garbanzo Beans” (Prod. By PF Cuttin)

Lupe Fiasco – “Adoration Of The Magi” feat. Crystal Torres (Video) [NSFW]
DAAAAMN! See what happens when you assume [that YouTube videos don’t show nudity]… you get enough ASS in a Lupe Fiasco video for U and ME! Wowzers. Not Safe For Work sticker for this for sure. However, you know Lupe goes deeper with his concepts. So, you might do this… run this video for “Adoration Of The Magi” (featuring Crystal Torres) one time, privately, with no sound. Then do another run for the full effect. Then watch for understanding. The time will NOT be wasted.
Styles P – “Ghost Dance Freestyle” feat. Chris Rivers (Video)
Styles Pinero and the Young Son of Big Pun get it in on this “Ghost Dance Freestyle” (over the Slaughter House “Hammer Dance” beat). Then put it to video. Enjoy thoroughly!
Freetown (Trailer)
Damn. As we were getting into the Golden Era in The States, these missionaries were just trying to live in the midst of a civil war. You ever hear the one about the mad gunman that burst into a church service threatening to kill all the Christians? All but a few ran out of the worship hall. Then the gunman sat down and told the reverend that he could continue preaching… to the true believers that remained. If that was ever true, these folks would be the ones still sitting there.
A group of native Liberian missionaries make a desperate cross-country trip through their war torn country to save one of their own.
Powerful imagery driven by storyline, dialog and acting more so than special effects and tech. “Freetown” is very much worth a look! Check out the trailer above.
ScienZe – “Proof & Pudding†feat. JohnNY U. (Prod. By PJ Katz)
HOT new joint from ScienZe. The Brooklynite you want on your side in a rhyme fight dropped this as this “Proof & Pudding†(featuring JohnNY U.) as the finale for his series of weekly releases. Produced by PJ Katz.
