Gud – “Lunchroom Battles” (featuring Nas and Akinyele)[1991]
As Gud recalls (see The Gudword at www.Flampro.com), he just happened to be at DJ Wishbone’s house on the summer day of 1991 that Akinyele decided to bring Nas through to do their “Live at the BBQ” lyrics and such on a mixtape. “Live at the BBQ” was not yet the smash hit (and the music industry was not yet the bullsh–) it would become (see our video post of “Live at the BBQ” performed LIVE here). Lucky for him, Gud had the good sense (so wanted to say “Gud” sense, but naahhhh) to record this piece of history. Most fortunate for us, Gud has chosen to bless us with a listening copy of the content online. Gud fashioned it into a mix he calls “Lunchroom Battles” (featuring Nas and Akinyele). This is so dope for him to do this! Do you realize that 1991 nearly predates the creation of the worldwide web? Do you realize that there was a Nas before “Illmatic”… Akinyele before “Put It In Her Mouth”? Of course you do (or you do now, because you roll with us)! But doesn’t it feel good going back? Yup! Well, listen to this gem and go back… to the beginning of the Golden Era of Hip-Hop!
REKS – “A Day In The Life” (Video)
You may remember a prior post – REKS – Unlearn – that whet your appetite for the REKS full-length  “REBELutionary.â€Â  If not, go check it out. The music video is hot! And we posted the cover art, track listing, and even a link to the iTunes pre-order site there; so you could have “REBELutionaryâ€Â as soon as it drops on July 24, 2012. Well, as good as that post was…we’ve got more! REKS put out another taste yesterday. “A Day in the Life of REKS” is a video montage of moments from his life set to the instrumental for “Shotgun” (featuring Jon Connor and Venessa Renee), also featured on the upcoming “REBELutionary.â€Â You should check it out. It’s pretty dope. Also check out a recent interview with Reks when he stopped by Tony Touch’s radio show on Sirius XM below…

Apani B. Fly – “Hey” (Prod. J Dilla)
Apani B. Fly has an incredible Dilla dilemma! Apani heat… like this joint “Hey”… was born of… to be heard by… the streets! However, likely due to politics and economics, the song was never released, and will not likely ever be released… commercially. But nowadays NOTHING can stop a virtual (e.g. online) release. And when the piece is this sweet, everybody ought to get a slice at no price! Wow. Before I go too much more Nipsey Russell in this write-up, let’s just end it. Go listen to the UNRELEASED treat “Hey”  by Apani B. Fly – produced by the Late Great J Dilla now!
R.I.P. Ms. Melodie (Cover Story)
We saw and heard word of the passing of Hip-Hop diva Ms. Melodie (formerly of BDP) many hours ago throughout the blogosphere and over the airwaves. However, everyone was reporting the same information (death, with no known cause); and none of the so-called majors had yet committed its resources or reputation to confirming the tragic loss. Well, though no new information of note has been shared, New York Daily News and MTV sources (and others) affirm that our beloved Ms. Melodie passed away yesterday, July 18 2012. We at JayForce.com express our deepest condolences and heartfelt sorrow at the passing of a sister that never did wrong by the culture of Hip-Hop, any of its elements, or the people who follow it and her. Rest in Peace, Ma…Rest in Power.
Lady Anya x Love Ultra Radio Interview with Jah Prince
Tonight we interviewed Lady Anya Kvitka and ask about her new ANYA: EP which features some dope production from snack|BOT and Hippie Sabotage that accompany her strong vocals. Sometimes mistaken for her visual appeal, Anya was a classically trained pianist and loves to showcase her skills anywhere from a small venue to a community stage. She reps for the West Coast and the true essence of Hip-Hop just as much as pop and jazz. One of her tracks will be featured on the next Love Ultra Radio Promotional Mix CD!

Marley Marl Classic Recipes: Recreates LL Cool J’s ‘Mama Said Knock You Out’ With Unreleased Verse (Video)
“In the first installment of Marley Marl ‘Classic Recipes,’ he shows you how he produced the beat for the 1991 Grammy award-winning chart-topping single “Mama Said Knock You Out” by LL Cool J. He discusses the collaboration and the production process of the track, as well as methods and tools that were used, including the Akai MPC60 and E-Mu SP-1200, the preferred sampler and drum machine for most hip hop producers at that time. In this video Marley Marl loads the samples into his new production weapons of choice, Ableton Live and the Akai APC40, including bits of Sly And The Family Stone’s “Trip To Your Heart” and James Brown’s “Funky Drummer”.
Throughout the video, the DJ legend gives invaluable advice and tips for young and up and coming producers, and he concludes the episode by offering a mixing technique for Ableton Live users and lovers of 808 kicks and other bass-heavy kick drums, and an alternate rock version of the song with never before heard lyrics recorded by LL in 1990.” – Dubspot

R&B/Alternative: Dawn Richard – “Pretty Wicked Things”
You know Dawn Richard (from Dirty Money), right? We just posted something on her a while back (see Dawn Richard – Wild N’ Young) To be that good. Wow! I tell you Dawn Richard did the work on this track (entitled “Pretty Wicked Things”)! Now, I’ll admit that the first bounce – from slow-and-low to dance tempo – threw me, but shout to producer by Druski for the vision on this one. A somber trance feel pervades over the entirety of this techno track – fast and slow parts. But by the time the music faded, I could not imagine it being better any other way. The full length release, on which “Pretty Wicked Things” will be featured, is entitled “Goldenheart” (due out October 16, 2012).
Beanie Sigel – “The Reunion” featuring State Property
Banger! What does State Property usually put out? Bangers! Check this Beanie Sigel track “The Reunion” (featuring State Property) out. It’s the clean version for now so you can let some folks nearby hear it…so they will come over to where you are…and enjoy the music…and you’ll be that much cooler! This joint is a leak from his upcoming full-length album entitled “This Time” – due out August 28, 2012. The album will come out just before Beans goes in for his two-year tax evasion bid in September. You know about the bid if you tuned in to JayForce on the Beatz and Lyrics Show here last Saturday. You are tuning in, right?

Peedi Crakk – “Sittin in My Room” (Video)
State Property veteran emcee Peedi Crakk cannot put it down! The mic, I mean. It’s OBVIOUS that he can and does put it down lyrically! Check him out going IN on “Sitting in My Room.” Philly stand up once again! By the way, you can scoop the audio for this track and a gang more by downloading the FREE mixtape “Crakk Files Vol. 4.”
Hollow Da Don – “Hollow Ta Con” featuring Conceited (Video)
Okay, okay. Nice! These cats dined on this beat Dipset style. YouTube surfing netted another goodie. Ha! Hallow Da Don and Conceited team up on an Alchemist beat to render “Hollow Ta Con.” This is the video for the second track (well, counting the Intro) off the mixtape “Loyalty is a Way of Life.” Born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens, claiming Houston as his home, Hallow Da Don keeps his baggage tags handy – flying back and forth to New York…to Atlanta..back to Houston…wherever he needs to be to make the next connect, show date, studio session…whatever. The man seems to stay on his grind. I’ll give him that. Hallow Da Don made his bones as a battle rapper. Spend some time Googling Hallow Da Don and battle leagues like URL and Grindtime to catch up.
Mic Blaque – “The Return” (Video)
Underground Magazine and HHH Magazine have ink on Brooklyn’s own Mic Blaque. He’s opened for M.O.P. and Meek Millz. Now, I’m aware of him. Uh oh, let’s go! Mic Blaque hit my radar on a YouTube surf session with “The Return” (see video above). DOPE! I peeped his bio and saw his mission statement: “Make music to change the world, not to fit the status quo.†DOPENESS! And he has vowed to channel his creativity into music that addresses societal issues (like poverty, empowerment)…you know, like some of the greats of the Golden Era of Hip Hop did last century. Dun-nuh-dun-dun-nuuuhhhh SUPER DOPENESS!!! I see you Mic Blaque. Now, y’all be sure to click and see Mic Blaque in “The Return.” Hell, why not go to www.MicBlaqueMusic.com and get a copy of the mixtape it’s on – “The Intermission” (produced by young hungry BK producer Tone Tremelo)? It’s free (just scroll down a bit to the link when you get there). Watch this dude. Follow him @MicBlaque. That’s a tip. And…you’re welcome.
The Boy Illinois – “40s” (Video)
A new young artist offering a fresh perspective from out the ‘Chi’, The Boy Illinois pops on the scene with his new video called “40s”. In a recent XXL magazine interview that caught my attention, The Boy Illinois gave some great insight as to who he is as an artist. “The best example that I try to set is individuality. I roll with a select few, but at the end of the day I make my own decisions and own moves. Nobody can do you like you, so why not do that? That’s how I plan to leave some type of imprint with my music.’
Also make you check out other records from The Boy Illinois such as “I Quit”, “Cardigan Sweater” and “Right Around Winter”.
The-Dream – “Dope Beyatch” feat. Pusha-T (Video)
I wouldn’t be surprised if this video got run on BET, MTV, & VH1 with the title as it is & all the drug & gun references. I still prefer the radio playable “Dope Chick” version to this song. I don’t mind it in some hip hop I listen to, but I don’t like my R&B music too gangsta. I like an element of class & sophistication if I want to get ‘gangsta’ with the R&B. When I want to listen to some real ‘Gangsta R&B’ music I prefer to listen to joints like THIS, and THIS, & THIS. But I digress…
The-Dream’s long-awaited The Love IV MMXII album is due out September 20th….

Oz: The Great and Powerful (Trailer)
Disney is pulling back the curtain on the origins of L. Frank Baum’s classic masterpiece “The Wizard of Oz,” with the story of “Oz: The Great and Powerful.” After directing three Spider-Man films, Sam Raimi has turned his attention to this fantastical story of a small-town magician (played by James Franco) who is hurled by a tornado into the Land of Oz where he has a chance to be shaped into the great and powerful wizard he always aspired to be. Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, and indie golden boy Zach Braff also star. The film is currently slated for a global release in spring of 2013. - Zach Pina, Hypebeast.com
