With the recent success of Wiz Khalifa & Mac Miller, Pittsburgh’s hip hop scene is continuing to flourish after years of being considered the younger brother to Philadelphia in terms of all things hip hop. But while both cities have never had any significant or competitive rivalries in the state of ‘Pistolvania’, they’ve often have had a distinct difference traditionally in terms of sound & influences. Pittsburgh’s sound can vary from a midwest vibe to a super lyrical east coast vibe in which it’s eastern neighbor Philly is typically known for. With the recent signing of rap artist Boaz to Rostrum records, MTV does a feature on Pittsburgh’s next generation of rising stars & the scene they grew up out of.

I wasn’t too impressed with this song when I first heard it, but I really dig the video that just dropped for this song “Till I Die” that Chris Brown directed himself. Besides having Big Sean & Wiz Khalifa on the track with him, ‘C Breezy’ manages to snag fellow ‘Mary Jane’ lovers Snoop Dogg, Method Man, & Redman to make cameos in the video. That’s wasup!

This joint “The Grinder” from Wiz Khalifa’s latest “Taylor Allerdice” mixtape I instantly knew was a banger produced by Seattle beatsmith Jake One. Niiiiiiice….

Never got around to posting this song from Wiz Khalifa called “Morocco” when it initially leaked a little over a week ago. I believe it will appear on his upcoming Taylor Allderdice mixtape. Coincidentally I’m set to go to Morocco for the first time ever this year on an educational trip & this song will definitely be added to my itunes “Morocco” playlist that I’ll be bumping through my headphones for the flight. This is definitely not a hardcore lyrical rap record from Wiz, but it just sounds good to me overall & that’s all that matters.

MTV Names Their Hottest Rappers In The Game For 2012 (Video)

I labeled this as “MTV’s Hottest Emcees Rappers In The Game” because not everyone on this list is an “emcee”….some are just rappers or singers. Either way it is what it is…Rap lists these days don’t hold much weight, but if you’re a real hip hop head like myself then you’ll chuckle out loud at some of things said by people on this panel. Ah well…What’d you expect from MTV & the current state of radio & rap music these days…Overall it’s just a reflection of how bad “mainstream” rap music is. There’s plenty of great music out there, but most of it ISN’T on the radio unfortunately. One thing I was surprised about was seeing the homie @BosNaud was on this panel. I haven’t looked at all the vids as of yet so I hope he represented well. First video from the lead single to Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa’s upcoming album & film ‘High School’. The song ‘Young, Wild, & Free’ featuring Bruno Mars was supposed to be on Wiz Khalifa’s ‘Rolling Papers’ album, but they both came up with the idea to just lock in & record a joint album that later expanded into shooting a movie for it as well. I think Snoop & Wiz have great chemistry & this cool laid back joint is proof of that…
