Questlove Stops By Amoeba Music In Los Angeles For Some Sounds (Video)
Everytime I’m in L.A. there’s usually a few places I ALWAYS stop by before I leave. One of my key stops used to be the Fat Beats record store on Melrose (RIP). It’s been tough with record stores closing around the country but thankfully Amoeba music is still open. That’s why it’s important to continually support institutions like Amoeba whenever you come to Los Angeles or any of their other locations. Last time I stopped in the the LA store I spent a few hours checking out & purchasing music & DVDs. The Roots drummer Questlove stopped by the store to let the people know ‘What’s In His Bag”. Big shout out to my homegirl Mona Lisa who works over there at Amoeba’s LA location.
Def Jam Cipher Sessions: CyHi Da Prynce & Big K.R.I.T. (Video)

MOOZ-lum Theatrical Trailer
Looking forward to seeing this film in the near future especially considering the social & political mirrors taking place. Here’s more about the film:
“Pulled between his strict Muslim upbringing by his father and the normal social life he’s never had, Tariq Mahdi (Evan Ross) enters college in a state of confusion. New relationships with Muslims and non-Muslims alike challenge his already shaken ideals, and the estrangement with his mother and sister troubles him. With the help of new friends, family and mentors, he begins to find himself and open up to an Islam he hasn’t been exposed to. But when the attacks of 9/11 happen without warning, he is forced to face his past and make the biggest decisions of his life.
Written and directed by Qasim Basir, Mooz-lum is one of the first-ever American feature films depicting the life of a young Muslim-American. The all-star cast includes: Danny Glover (Dreamgirls, The Color Purple), Nia Long (Are We There Yet, Love Jones), Roger Guenveur Smith (American Gangster, Do The Right Thing), Summer Bishil (The Last Airbender, Towelhead) and Evan Ross (ATL, Pride). ”
I’m looking forward to catching this film when it debuts in select theaters. Hopefully Atlanta will be one of the chosen cities when it’s released February 11th. You can still cast your vote for the film to be screened in your city today by making sure you go to: http://www.eventful.com/moozlum
50 Cent – Happy New Year Freestyle
Seems like he’s about a few weeks late for this but it is what it is…. Rumors are also swirling that he’s leaving Shady/Aftermath records too. Maybe that’s what he’s alluding to at the end of this song. Should be a New Year full of new challenges for 50.

Eminem, SlaughterHouse & Yelawolf On The Cover Of XXL Magazine
Looking forward to see what Eminem can do with all of these guys careers. Hip Hop is definitely changing & getting more lyrical, but will the mainstream folks get on board is the question. If they take an NWA approach of making the mainstream crossover to them then I think they’ll be fine. SLAUGHTERHOOOOOOUSE!!
Old Apple Mac & iPad Recycled As A DJ Helmet (Video)
Sometimes when I hear Hip Hop DJs complain about not getting enough paying gigs I almost want to vomit. I say this because I don’t believe many DJs haven’t tried hard enough to be different. Many DJs simply forgot that you still have to be entertaining by any means necessary. You may not have the best technical skills, but hardwork & creativity outlasts talent every day. Saw the legendary Daddy-O of Stetsasonic post this video of an electronic DJ wearing a specially made helmet from an old Apple Mac & an ipad. Now that’s creative! I would sometimes think of the wild outfits the legendary Afrika Bambaataa would wear while performing while he would be DJing a party or performing. It’s one thing to have all the talent in the world, but with more celebrities & regular people becoming DJs the veterans may need to be more creative. Classic after the jump
The Beatz & Lyrics Show – Best Of 2010 Show Winners

The Oakland Raiders To Officially Announce Hue Jackson As Head Coach

The tweet above may not mean much to most of you, but I’m an Oakland Raiders fan. It’s official…..Al Davis hires Hue Jackson as our new head coach. Despite Al Davis being sometimes portrayed as being quite eccentric, he has probably hired more black head coaches than any other team in the NFL if I’m not mistaken. That’s great, but black or not you still have to ‘Just Win Baby’. Hue Jackson is largely credited for turning the season around this past year for the Raiders. Hopefully it’ll be a good 2011 for the Raiders if the NFL doesn’t have a lockout.

Boog Brown – Marinate (Video)
Boog Brown has had a great 2010 & is one of the artists to watch for 2011 according to various publications & music critics around the world. Although she’s originally from Detroit, she’s also one of our nominees for the 2010 JAX Award for Best Atlanta Based Independent Artist. ‘Marinate’ on this video directed by my homie B Price for now & get to know more about Boog Brown after the jump as she stops by Atlanta’s Mood’s Music store to see her “Brown Study” album in the store for the first time.
Killer Mike, Chace Infinite, Krondon, Freddie Gibbs, & DJ Khalil Haven’t Forgotten Oscar Grant
Amongst all the club records, strip club records, & ‘this is for the radio’ type of records many artists seem to to be wrapped up in these days, its good so see some genuine artists talk about some real issues going on in our communities. If you’re not familiar with Oscar Grant’s murder by a transit police officer in San Francisco you need to wake up because chances are police brutality is occurring in your community as well. Killer Mike aka Mike Bigga, Strong Arm Steady, Chace Infinite & Freddie Gibbs have recorded songs to keep the focus on the young man who lost his life by a rogue police officer. Check out the video from Killer Mike below as he talks about his upcoming album PL3DGE album & being inspired about Oscar Grant’s unfortunate demise. Shouts to Maurice Garland on the visuals. Check out the songs after the jump!
