Bill Maher Compares The NFL To Good Politics Where Everybody Wins (Video)
Super Bowl XLV has come & gone & the Green Bay Packers have come out victorious. Although I was rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers because I’m a Philly native & obviously I want to support my home state, I’m not mad at the Green Bay Packers winning it at all. Unlike the majority of the NFL, the Green Bay Packers organization is set up in a way where the fans can become shareholders in the team & each having a stake & voice on the outcome in the team’s success or failure. It may surprise many of you to know that the Green Bay Packers are also a non-profit organization. As the game winded down to the final minutes I thought of Bill Maher’s opinion piece from a week ago comparing the NFL’s ‘sharing the wealth’ philosophy to how the United States could be successful again for many underemployed & out of work Americans. Bill Maher drew excellent comparisons of how the country is being run like Major League Baseball & failing its constituents, but if leaders employed the NFL’s method we’d all be better off. Imported From Detroit: Eminem’s Chrysler 200 Super Bowl Ad (Video)
Dope advertisement showing love to Detroit & Eminem is leading the way in it. Great job! FTW! This was the second advertisement that Eminem was involved with during the Super Bowl with the first that aired being for Brisk Iced Tea. If you really pay attention to what’s said in that particular ad you’ll see that Eminem is not just going to take any ad for a check unlike some rappers out today, but the word is Brisk paid him allegedly $1 Million dollars that was just to lend his voice for the claymation character. I respect the fact that Em is very choosy in terms of his ad choices. He even uses Brisk’s ad time to let YOU know why he doesn’t do commercials. Smart
Everyday is Black History: Rosa Parks (Feb 4,1913- Oct 25,2005)
Born on February 4, 1913, Rosa Parks, the mother of the Civil Rights Movement, was born in Tuskegee, Alabama as Rosa Louise McCauley. Her family background was diverse, a blend of African-American, Scots-Irish and Cherokee-Creek. After her parents, James and Leona, separated, Rosa and her family moved to Montgomery, Alabama, where she attended several schools until forced to care for her ailing grandmother and later, for her mother, too. ‘Naughty By Nature’ Says There Are More Artists Today Than Fans (Video)
Legendary rap group ‘Naughty By Nature’ appeared on 50’s site for an interview celebrating over 20 years in the game & one of the key points Treach made in the interview is something that I’ve been saying for a while now. There are simply more artists than there are fans these days. Everyone & their mother raps or sings in 2011. I’ve been in radio since 1990 & never have I’ve seen the climate this bad where EVERYONE wants to be an artist. More often than not people don’t understand the amount of work & sacrifice it takes to be successful in it. Most people are not cut out for this business so if you’re not in it for longevity like Naughty By Nature continues to be for over 20 years then its going to be a disappointing ride for anyone jumping in for the wrong reasons.

Kool Herc, The Father Of Hip Hop Culture, Is Hospitalized & In Need Of Financial Assistance

On DJ Premier’s Sirius XM Satellite radio show Friday night, Primo said he spoke with Kool Herc who is currently hospitalized & gravely ill. The problems are compounded by the fact that Kool Herc doesn’t have any medical insurance which could drive costs to skyrocket. The 55 year old father of what we call ‘Hip Hop’ culture is largely credited for its inception with a event that took place August 11th, 1973 near Sedgwick & Cedar Aves in the South Bronx. Kool Herc is also credited by music historians & DJs alike for utilizing “breaks” during a party or event by isolating select segments of a song which, in a way, became a form of manual remixing live. As a community activist, DJ Kool Herc also was responsible for saving the building in which ‘Hip Hop’ culture was birthed at 1520 Sedgwick after real estate investors wanted to take over the property & remove many of the tenants still living there.
DJ Premier posted on his twitter page how people can help DJ Kool Herc with the information posted below:

UPDATE: Kool Herc’s sister is handling everything for him & has now setup a Paypal account as an option to where donations can be sent:

Taraji P. Henson Appears On The Chelsea Lately Show (Video)
It’s hard for me to believe that Taraji P. Henson is single. She’s not only attractive, but in the majority of interviews I’ve seen her in she’s always displayed a very down to earth personality. It’s rare when you find women who have a sense of humor, great head on her shoulders, & still attractive. Hopefully she’ll shoot a movie in Atlanta soon so I can make my way to the set. I’m only joking. Sort of. Ummm well…… maybe I’m not.

Orchestral Remix: Kanye West – All Of The Lights (Video)

The Portland Cello Project took the time to cover one of Kanye West’s songs from his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album. I find this to be fairly interesting. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more orchestral groups around the country covering more songs from the MBDTF album specifically because Kanye’s album uses a wealth of of orchestral arrangements. By covering popular music with heavy orchestral arrangements, it’s a great tool to get more young people involved.
