I know y’all know it didn’t start with ‘Smokey’ for Atlanta’s (Georgia, USA) Chris Tucker. Tucker was a standout as a standup comedian. His Def Comedy Jam sets back in the day…legendary! Well, now, the comedian-turned-blockbuster-movie-actor is returning to the stage.
A man who needs no introduction, Chris Tucker is a comedy legend and is bringing his larger-than-life comedy to Netflix in his FIRST EVER stand-up special. Filmed in his hometown of Atlanta, nothing is off-limits as Tucker brings it home for the comedy special worth waiting for.
Warm Brew – “A1Day” feat. Racella (Video)

West Coast based group Warm Brew just dropped some new visuals for the track “A1Day1” off their “Ghetto Beach Boyz” album. Â The song features Racella bringing her lovely voice to the song and is one of my favorites off the album. Â If you are not familiar with Warm Brew they are signed to Dom Kennedy OPM label. Â I enjoyed the album quality production and a mixture of funk and hip hop along with their own style is refreshing to see these days. Â The video is nicely done and helps pay homage to some classic West Coast movies with the storyline. Â Click here to purchase the album!

VICE sent another cute reporter (hey, just saying) to get another story traditional news media is simply not covering. Though the Marijuana Movement has had coverage, the travails of the business side, post-legalization, have not. Above is the story of an industry that continues to grow – in spite of limited bank backing for businesses, risks associated with having to do high-volume cash business (um…STRONG ARM ROBBERY on dat azz regularly), and very limited government support (dare we say opposition, as weed is still an illegal drug at the federal level).
BUT…
Still weed biz strives. Look, they’re having conventions and luring investors. Not to mention sending major tax revenue to the state of Colorado. Watch the report above.

The Black Opera – “Sacred Cow”

TBO, The Black Ops or you can just say The Black Opera it all equates to brothers and sisters making quality music and not getting stuck to the same thing. Â TBO constantly puts out content right now Majestik Legend has a new solo album out titled Legend Has it. Â Then look at the fact TBO member Jamall Bufford just released a single titled Summer after Summer. Â Well they got back together and introduced us to some new voices for the latest single Sacred Cow. Â Majestik Legend, Jamal Bufford, Obie Iyoha, and introducing Johnny Void the whole gang gets busy on a self produced track.
In an era where the idea of justice remains in question, these questions linger as well: Who can you trust? Who can you believe in? Those questions apply to “the system” and to rap music in 2015. “Sacred Cow” is The Black Opera’s way of answering those questions.

Well AfroPunk is coming to the ATL. The festival that has created a great following and buzz starting out in NYC jus a decade ago is now coming to the dirty south. October 3rd & 4th 2015 they will take over Central Park Atlanta, GA with an incredible lineup. Just to name a few D’Angelo, Flying Lotus, Kaytranada, Public Enemy, and Lion Babe just to name a few. So it seems everybody and they mama has a Podcast these days. Â With technology people get a laptop and a mic and they think they have a radio show. Â It is not truly that simple, yes technology gives everyone the chance to do their own thing without corporate restraints but it still needs to be quality. Â A podcast that does a good job of having good dialogue and quality guests is the Str8outdaden show by J Good. Â He provides a voice to the underground giving them tips on how to make it and navigate in this Hip Hop game. Â He recently invited Beatz & Lyrics co host ArtByOdell to sit down and talk about a myriad of topics. Â The two brothers discuss how artists can get their music on Blogs, Odell explained hw he got his start in radio and what he has going with his personal podcast “Odell’s RoundTable”. Â It’s a great discussion with plenty of great stories like how Odell got a drop from Killer Mike at the request of Mike’s wife Shay. Â Or how Punch (manager at TDE) screened ArtByOdell on the spot before he gave him access to interview the artist SZA. Â Check it out plenty of great information shared in this one!

Wow. ‘The Matrix’ has us… already. We are totally dependent on the technology that connects us. Watch this trailer and be [re]convinced. If we, as a society were to lose connectivity – to our information, assets, ultimately each other – it’s a wrap. That said, a significant tech failure hitting the cyberworld… that’d be a wrap for us! Very provacative documentary trailer above.
Legendary director Werner Herzog investigates the connected world and the people who protect it in his upcoming documentary. From cyber-crime and service outages to technological advances in science, healthcare and retail, take a deeper look at how much our lives depend on staying connected and see just how big and yet fragile the Connected World has become.
As you’ll see, the Internet was never meant to be what it has become – the frail backbone infrastructure of our world. But we are beyond that now. It is what we got; and we are irrevocably tied in and dependent on it as a society. That said, how will we protect and ensure connectivity? We need Guardians (no ‘of the Galaxy’ joke… for real… watch).

Big K.R.I.T. (born Justin Scott) is the focus of the latest episode of ‘Breaking Through.’ The kid from Meridian (Mississippi, USA) is Hip-Hop to the core; evidenced by his story. Hip-Hop is a culture whose foundations and beginnings are best described as something out of nothing; just like K.R.I.T.’s. Watch him tell of having barely having a notion of a music career, then getting a notion but no way to put it down, then a way to put it down (e.g. equipment) but no money or help, then learning for self and doing for self as best he could… and getting better.
You might cheer or shed a tear. But you gotta watch.

A little footage (above) and a few pictures (after the jump) to show Hip-Hop having big heart! Shout to the people of Haiti. Earthquakes & the thievery related to relief efforts, ethnic cleansing & racism in the Dominican Republic, persistent poverty and despair… and still the people of Haiti push through. That’s real.
That said, it’s only right to shine a light on artists who try to bring a little light into dark times for a people. Haiti’s Big O Productions brought multi-platinum artists Swizz Beatz (who partnered with Martelly to make this happen), Chris Brown, and Lil Wayne to join Haitian Artists T-Micky and Barikad Crew in Port-au-Prince to present a FREE six-hour concert event for the over 100,000 people that attended. Actress/Model Kate Upton, Haitian-American boxer Andre Berto and Def Jam records exec Bu Thiam were also in attendance.
“This was a very humbling experience,†said Swizz Beatz following the concert. “To see the number of Haitians come out during a time like this was amazing…. The energy was perfect.â€
