Robert Glasper’s new single featuring Jill Scott entitled ‘Calls’ is one of my favorite new R&B/Soul joints over the past month or so. “No Poison No Paradise” takes the listener on a journey through the experiences of Sonny, Jr. (a semi-autobiographical character), and his lucid dreams; growing up in a rough working-class neighborhood in Detroit.
“This was the last song I made for the album. It’s a short song about the main character, Sonny, waking up out of his dream and trying to make sense of it all.”

Mixtape heat from Lunch Tha General entitled “What’s For Lunch?” (Part 2), hosted by radio personality Chris Loos. Lunch finished this mixtape despite numerous hospitalizations due to progressive kidney failure associated with his life-long battle with Lupus. Beasted it out with only 7% kidney function, and still awaiting a kidney transplant!
See that? Really can’t hear other emcees complaints over the noise of this dude’s grind. Respect!

‘Almost Human’ stars Karl Urban as troubled cop John Kennex and Michael Ealy as his flawed ‘Almost Human’ robo-partner Dorian. Set a couple of decades in the future, LAPD detectives are forced to partner with human-like androids. Produced by J.J. Abrams, the powerhouse producer of some of today’s hottest sci-fi TV series and movies. Peep the chemistry between the partners that comes through in the clip above. Should be a good look for fall viewing.

Employee Calls Out McDonald’s President On Poverty Wages (Video)

YEAH! McDonald’s worker Nancy Salgado got ’em so shook they called the cops! Damn shame it has to come to this though.
Great story from NPR’s website. Watch the embedded clip that has gone viral this week, with the help of Fight For 15 – a fast-food workers’ campaign aimed at raising hourly wages to $15. Salgado shouts to Jeff Stratton, president of McDonald’s USA, who was standing at a podium in a ballroom giving a talk:
“It’s really hard for me to feed my two kids and struggle day to day. Do you think this is fair, that I have to be making $8.25 when I have worked for McDonald’s for 10 years?”
Stratton’s response:
“I’ve been there 40 years.”
Wow.

VICE covers the annual Black Bike Week in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, over Memorial Day weekend. Half a million Black (mostly) bikers and event go-ers gather for several days of riding and partying… and traffic-stopping flossing and bike stunts up and down the seafront strip.
And…
‘Hordes of women—known as “huggers”—also flock to Myrtle Beach for the event, hoping to be picked up for a ride, and maybe something more. A girl will often perform the “pillion clapping” move as a passenger—essentially twerking on the back of the bike. Unfortunately, the combination of partying and biking without a helmet isn’t an especially safe one, and every year there are people who don’t make it home. The event also attracts a ton of prostitutes, but more and more women are starting to ride their own bikes and each year an increasing number of female biker gangs show up for the party.’

Impactful statement teased at the top of the show: The Game declares that he was not ‘misunderstood’ as a thug by the people; he was what he was, but now he is ‘turning over a new leaf.’ During the sit-down with Larry, The Game explains his signing with Dr. Dre, his beef with 50 Cent, his ‘Robin Hood’ charity project, his television and movie work, his plans for future, and much more. Surprisingly cleansing experience. Take a look.

Comedy: De Niro, Douglas, and Freeman To Star in “Last Vegas” (Trailer)

Director Jon Turteltaub probably had his hands full reigning in this A-List cast (each with a resume rife with silliness, as well as drama) for the comedy “Last Vegas.” Michael Douglas, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman, and Kevin Kline are four old friends who decide to throw a Las Vegas bachelor party for the only one of them who has remained single. The film is slated to hit theaters next month. Looks good.
