SXSW: Jay Z AMEX Sync Show (Video)

I wasn’t impressed with Jay-Z’s performance but neither was I surprised at the rather lukewarm response from the audience. Jay-Z forgot the lyrics to two of his songs in this video & the audience evidently is not that familiar with his catalog. As a guy who’s traveled the world I’ve been saying for a while that Jay-Z is not as popular a rap artist by himself around the world as a performing artist compared to someone like Kanye, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne, or Eminem. Here in the states some fans will argue with you, but apparently the same thing can be seen here too at SXSW amongst the so-called fans that aren’t strongly “urban”. (Shrugs) Nice hat.

I’m supposed to fly down to SXSW this weekend, but it looks like I’m missing many of the performances from many artists on the rise due to my prior commitments here in Atlanta this week but a few of our JAYFORCE.COM associated fam & interns are already en route. Check out some video I was just sent my way of ScHoolboy Q hitting the stage for the first time at SXSW this year performing his songs from his new album “Habits and Contradictions” alongside his TDE family Jay Rock and Ab Soul. I’m hearing the crowd went crazy over the L.A. based artist’s “There He GO” record & here is some video from that performance. The video is directed by Cam Kirk with the help from WM40A and WHOIZHE behind the camera….

On March 2nd in Chicago, Puma held a special B-Boy competition & in-store with Phife Dawg of A Tribe Called Quest, Maseo Of De La Soul, & live instrumentalist, DJ, & producer AraabMuzik. Phife Dawg took the time to sign autographs for fans before launching into a 7-8 song performance at The Mid & was later joined by Maseo of De La Soul who hopped on stage to rock with Phife for a few joints. DJ Rasta Root served as the DJ for the evening alongside Maseo before producer AraabMuzik performed a set doing live beat creations & remixes on his beat machine. The video directed by Konee Rock is expertly edited but condensed down & many parts of what took place that night were left on the digital cutting room floor. Overall the turnout was great & it was definitely a good day in Chi-town.

Without a doubt this is one of my favorite rap songs of the past year off Wale’s latest album “Ambition”. Not only does the song sound dope from a production standpoint, but Wale, Rick Ross, & Meek Mill seem to capture the stress of the average black man trying to make in it America. Far too often people see all the successes but forget the struggle to get to those trophies. This song is about every man who has some ambition to be greater than their immediate conditions. It’s no secret why I was bangin’ this song out on my radio show….

Saw a few of the homies talking about this video & it is truly amazing to see the brothas, could be sistahs too, getting down in this dance which I’m assuming is back somewhere in the motherland of Africa. There could be some debate as to whether or not the video was sped up, but if you pay attention to the precision & symmetry of the dancers’ movements it’s still nothing less than incredible.

Former Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receiver Hines Ward got may have gotten off a little easy for pleading guilty following his DUI arrest in Atlanta several months back. Apparently Hines Ward was more concerned about anyone finding out about his arrest that the immediate embarrassment of being caught. Unfortunately TMZ was able to get the dashcam video of his DUI arrest here in Atlanta. Ironically the night Hines Ward was arrested I passed right by him & the officer that evening as this was happening….
