Representing for Japan, former Rawkus records artist & bi-lingual emcee Kojoe wants to you to get more familiar. Kojoe has released several bangers over the past year that I’ve been diggin & playing on my radio show. His ability to speak fluently in english as well as Japanese helps to expand his fanbase beyond the borders as opposed to just around the average city block. Lately he’s been dropping freestyles every Tuesday for his Kojoe Tuesdays marathon. Check his website for more IAMKOJOE.COM. Kojoe is an asian emcee with global aspirations….
Lupe Tells Cee-Lo Why Nas Is The Greatest (Video)

Prote-J – ‘Bigger Things’ (Video)
I believe I first met Prote-J down in Miami as he & his manager were pushing his music heavily & hitting many shows in the Florida region. There’s literally a million & one rappers out there trying to do their thing, but not many are telling a REAL story let alone their OWN story. This song & video right here caught my attention the most because you can get a feel of Prote-J’s humble beginnings in Papau, New Guinea. While some cats are complaining about not having an iphone, Prote-J’s mind was on ‘bigger things’. This is real life rap right here.
Big Pooh – Wooden Wall Silverware (Video)
New video from North Carolina’s own Big Pooh. The beat on this joint goes! props to Madlib. This is a track from Rapper Big Pooh’s FatBoyFresh Vol. 1: For Members Only.

Grussle – ‘The Break Up’ (Instrumentals)

Inner Loop Records out of DC dropped an instrumental project from one of their dopest producers Grussle aka E-Minah. Been checking for his joint for the last couple of years. He has got a very polished and soulful sound. He is consistently good too. When you see a track produced by him make sure you check it out. This project got some heaters on it.
Freddie Gibbs – Cold Day in Hell (Trailer)
Gangsta Gibbs says his album will come out in July and the features list looks pretty diverse and Alchemist plus Statik Selektah make production appearances. Should be a dope project if you dig gangster rap music. Be on the lookout for the mixtape with Statik Selektah coming this summer also.
Moneyball (Trailer)
While I was sitting in the theater over the weekend waiting for Green Lantern to begin, the preview for the upcoming film ‘Moneyball’ came on. Due in theaters September 23rd, the film revolves around the struggling Oakland A’s Major league baseball franchise & one man’s attempt to change the franchise’s fortunes around. After watching the trailer I was excited to see this film starring Brad Pitt as it’s based on a true story story & book written by Michael Lewis.
Rapsody – ‘Thank H.E.R. Now’ (Album)
North Carolina emcee Rapsody delivers her second street album ‘Thank H.E.R. Now’ in conjunction with DJ Booth.net. Lupe Fiasco Appears On Fox News To Debate With Bill O’Reilly (Video)
Props to Yardie for this video…..everyone I know has been waiting for Lupe to speak out on his comments regarding President Obama & the wars talking place. I can see where Lupe may have been going with some of his comments, but it’s clearly evident that Fox News may have edited out some of Lupe’s comments to their own advantage. It would have been a better discussion had it been on-air live.
OkayPlayerTV: The Roots Picnic (Video)
Although there were plenty of videos that surfaced on the web focusing on Philly’s largest summer festival & the many performers that graced the stage, The Roots crew’s Okayplayer team dropped a high quality recap over the weekend. As a Philly native it’s amazing for me to see what the The Roots annual picnic on Festival Pier on Penn’s Landing has grown into. The Roots continue to make me proud to be from Philly not only for the music they present to the world, but in the many ways they reach back for Philly artists, Philly fans, the city, & the community at large. Check out the video recap….Okay Player?

Tona – ‘We Do’ (prod by Rich Kidd) [Video]
Ghana West Africa native & Toronto based emcee Tona just dropped this new video for ‘We Do’ that we found to be pretty impressive from a quality standpoint. Quality video & quality song. Although we can’t say we’re well versed in the kid’s catalog, but we do know that Toronto hip hop scene is definitely official & chances are if you’re a product of that area the music should be pretty good too. We guess we’ll get more answers about Tona from his website & twitter page.
Apathy – ‘Check To Check’ (prod by Evidence)
Styles P – ‘Where The Angels Sleep’ (Video)
New video from S.P. the ghost…..Styles P hasn’t been letting me down with the leaked joints & other freestyles as of late. Nice video for this joint too!
Sean Price Doesn’t Like Female Rappers (Video)
Just last Saturday night on our radio show we had Queens bred & Tampa based emcee Dynasty in the studio for an interview. At one point I was telling her about how some brothers just don’t dig female emcees, but she was talented enough to get many guys respect especially since DJ Premier found her talented enough to work with. Coincidentally this video interview of Sean Price popped up today in which the expresses the sentiment of many male hip hop fans who just don’t find female emcees interesting. As a radio host I know of many dope female emcees, but all too often I believe the ones that get the most attention in the mainstream ruin the perception for the truly talented ones especially amongst male fans.
