DJ Premier’s Beat Rejected By Kanye West For His MBDTF Album

Prior to Kanye West releasing My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy it was reported that DJ Premier was supposed to appear on the album for a song called “My Mama’s Boyfriend”. Needless to say Kanye didn’t use the track that Primo submitted probably because it didn’t fit the overall sound of Ye’s album. Kanye changed the direction of the album & even the title a few times. Nevertheless I’m sure a gang of talented emcees can do this Primo track justice. Shout out to DJ Premier’s Blog

Orchestral Remix: Kanye West – All Of The Lights (Video)

The Portland Cello Project took the time to cover one of Kanye West’s songs from his My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album. I find this to be fairly interesting. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more orchestral groups around the country covering more songs from the MBDTF album specifically because Kanye’s album uses a wealth of of orchestral arrangements. By covering popular music with heavy orchestral arrangements, it’s a great tool to get more young people involved.
Producer Spotlight: MOSS
Moss is a talented producer who is signed to DJ Premier’s Works Of Mart Production team. He’s done a ton of stuff that I was impressed with but I rarely ever saw any videos or interviews of him on the web. The guys at Onsmash caught up with him for this interview to talk about his process & gives a little of his history. He also talks about the mix up with him not getting production credit on Raekwon’s Only Built For Cuban Linx II album. On another note……All my people in Atlanta are gonna look at this video & see that Moss looks like he was separated at birth with our homie Bran from Speakeasy Promo. Maybe its just that wild ass hair…Hahaaa!

Def Jam Cipher Sessions: West Coast Edition
Def Jam’s Cipher Session continues with the West Coast featuring Chace Infinite, Fashawn, YG, Skeme, Tiron, & El Prez. REKS – 25th Hour (Prod by DJ Premier) (Video)
I was in MJQ in Atlanta one night & ran into REKS just hanging out with his brother. I could tell he was surprised that I recognized who he was in the crowded spot. Even though MJQ is a great club venue for real music lovers, Reks is still a relatively new artist to some Atlanta hip hop heads. It’s possible that his new album may change his status & visibility with the public considerably. For his third album Reks has enlisted a quality crop of producers such as DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Hi-Tek, Alchemist, Nottz, Sha Money XL, & Statik Selektah as well as a few other talented beat wizards. Reks also has a short & respectable guest list of emcees on the album such as Lil Fame, Styles P, Freeway, & Termanology. It’s looks like its shaping up to be a quality album. We’ll see come March 8th when the album “R.E.K.S.” is expected to drop. Check the cover tracklisting information & some behind the scenes footage after the jump….
Theophilus London – Why Even Try feat. Sara Quin

Theophilus London has been dropping quite a few joints I’ve been feeling & this new joint “Why Even Try” is no exception. It’s a single from his upcoming EP called “Lovers Holiday” which I’m assuming is dropping somewhere around Valentines Day February 8th on itunes.
The BLITZ – 1/27/11
Ghostface Killah – Together Baby (Video)
Ghostface’s Apollo Kidz Album was one of the best hip hop albums of 2010 but it was released this past December. It’s a shame the video for the first single is just coming out now. If you haven’t peeped the album yet you need to cop it! It’s bangin’. Ghostface had also announced that he’s working on Supreme Clientele 2 so maybe this album was just a hold over until then. Either way Tony Starks never disappoints with each album release.
XXL Presents Who Dat?: Eye Candy Edition With Joe Budden (Video)
One thing about Joe Budden is he’s always been able to pull some dime fine ass women. Who better for XXL magazine to get for their ‘Who Dat?: Eye Candy Edition’. He’s dated every person on this segment except one person at the end.

DJ Revolution presents Malcom & Martin….checkout the visuals for this track produced by Marco Polo called “Movement Music”. Good song & lead in video for the album ‘DJ Revolution Presents Malcolm & Martin: Life Doesn’t Frighten Me’ due February 1st on Soulspazm Records. These guys also dropped a mixtape last year as a warm up for the new album called “Criminal Minded” which is a flip off of KRS-ONE’s classic. If you don’t have it I’ve provided a link for you below.

Collecting My Thoughts: Black Thought – “Please Don’t Go”
This is one of my favorite tracks from Black Thought that I’d go back to every now & then on the radio. Supposedly it was gonna appear on his solo album that was never released. Nowadays he’s focusing on the Money Making Jam Boys project. Check out the recent interview with the Black Thought’s group below. Since we never got a solo album out of Black Thought it appears that Tariq is putting together a compilation contest with a few blogs. Okayplayer & SmokingSection are doing a contest involving Black Thought that you may also want to check out to win some nice prizes. Collect Your Thoughts: The Ultimate Black Thought Compilation.
