This is the song that damn near shut the internet down last night & STILL has people talking today. This “Control” joint produced by NO I.D. was supposed to appear on Big Sean’s upcoming “Hall Of Fame” album but it was allegedly pulled due to sample clearance issues. I feel Big Sean & Jay Electronica did a decent job, but it’s extremely clear that Kendrick Lamar bodied this joint something terrible. Just what the game needed.

The real standouts on this mixtape are the “Story” interludes featuring Common, Snoop Dogg, & Young Jeezy where they individually detail their little known & surprising connections to the city of Detroit. I like when Big Sean chooses the right tracks where you can better comprehend & appreciate his lyricism. I’ve felt that sometimes when he’s flowing over the right instrumentation, like his freestyles over J Dilla tracks, the listener can truly see that this kid from Detroit is not really a slouch lyrically. This smooth new joint “Hundred Dollar Bill Skyscraper” produced by Drumma Boy is a perfect example of a track complementing the emcee while not overshadowing him so much that he has to dumb down his flow with the ‘Wobbly Wobbly’ lyrics. It’s shaping up to be another good year for Big Sean with Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music compilation album “Cruel Summer” on the way, his sophomore solo album, & finally connecting with his Pittsburgh homie Mac Miller for the first time on this track as they try to continue building ‘Hundred Dollar Bill Skyscrapers’ during the course of their careers….

I wasn’t too impressed with this song when I first heard it, but I really dig the video that just dropped for this song “Till I Die” that Chris Brown directed himself. Besides having Big Sean & Wiz Khalifa on the track with him, ‘C Breezy’ manages to snag fellow ‘Mary Jane’ lovers Snoop Dogg, Method Man, & Redman to make cameos in the video. That’s wasup!

MTV Names Their Hottest Rappers In The Game For 2012 (Video)

I labeled this as “MTV’s Hottest Emcees Rappers In The Game” because not everyone on this list is an “emcee”….some are just rappers or singers. Either way it is what it is…Rap lists these days don’t hold much weight, but if you’re a real hip hop head like myself then you’ll chuckle out loud at some of things said by people on this panel. Ah well…What’d you expect from MTV & the current state of radio & rap music these days…Overall it’s just a reflection of how bad “mainstream” rap music is. There’s plenty of great music out there, but most of it ISN’T on the radio unfortunately. One thing I was surprised about was seeing the homie @BosNaud was on this panel. I haven’t looked at all the vids as of yet so I hope he represented well. Luda is nice with his pen game & honestly I’d be surprised if they responded lyrically, but then again some people tend to be turned off by lyrical battles. Not me though…

Dwight Howard’s new commercial for his adiZero Crazy Light features Detroit’s Big Sean in the clip & also utilizes his hit strip club anthem “Ass”(Dance) as the background music. Hopefully that choice of song isn’t any indication of how quality these 9.8oz Adidas ultra light kicks really are. I truly don’t believe they’ll be an NBA season this year, but there’s always work at Footlocker selling kicks. Right Superman?

Kanye West has a great roster of artists over there at G.O.O.D. Music, but one artist I had been on the fence about was Big Sean. Detroit as a city is known for some hardbody lyrical beasts in terms of talent yet with Big Sean I never got the impression that he never really took that course. He appears to be one of those types of new artists that isn’t battle lyrical so I’ve felt that his strong suit would probably be in crafting good songs or stories. I even stopped by one of his shows in Atlanta to check out his stage show & check out his style to see if I was missing anything considering he had a decent amount of fans on the internet. The songs I genuinely enjoyed the most from Big Sean both appeared to be collaborations he had with Chris Brown. The first song that caught my attention was ‘Sh*t Goddam’ & now this new joint that just dropped called ‘My Last’. Say what you want about Big Sean, but this song right here with Chris Brown is a hit record if his label and the people around him don’t drop the ball.
