Jarren Benton – “Gimmie The Loot” (Produced By M16) [Video]

Jarren Benton might ‘tear the club up like a ACL’ with this one. Only the craziest beats (and visuals) will suit Benton. M16 (Tuscaloosa, Alabama, stand up!) came through with the sick track for this “Gimmie The Loot.” Jakob Owens is responsible for the visual mayhem above.

Nat King Cole Documentary: Afraid of the Dark (Trailer)

“Not only was the world ready for his music, it was ready for his color.”

Talk about ‘Afraid of the Dark’ (didn’t we just post another documentary trailer with that title?). Nat King Cole was a bold brother on TV while the KKK was running wild. Mr. “Unforgettable” was making American classic music even with that kind of racism, fear and loathing as a backdrop. Bold. Easy to see why those determined to hate were afraid. Watch the above trailer; teasing what promises to be a great film documenting Cole’s life and times with footage and commentary from those who knew, admired and loved the legend.

Jay Electronica – “We Made It” feat. Jay Z

jay-z-and-jay-electronica-we-made-it-remixJust a few days after releasing the track ‘Better In Tune with The Infinite’, New Orleans native son Jay Electronica drops another this time featuring Jay Z.  I like the use of the soundclip from a scene in HBO’s hilariously funny  ‘Eastbound & Down’ comedy to start off the record, but other than the jewels Jay Electronica laced the record with I was somewhat underwhelmed with the song as a whole. It’s just an ‘aight’ song in my opinion & I feel it will also do a disservice to Jay Electronica because most people will focus their attention on Jay Z’s subliminal disses back at Drake on this record instead of on Jay Electronica himself.  Personally, I need to hear more Jay Elect, more of  Just Blaze’s quality production, & less guest appearances from other rappers on future Jay Elect jawns.

The 1983 Los Angeles Raiders: A Run To Remember (Video)

You should know by now that I’m an Oakland Raiders fan to the fullest. Of course I still support & will always support my hometown Philadelphia Eagles & other Philadelphia sports teams because I’m a proud Philly native, but the Raiders have always personally resonated with me since I was a young kid. The last 10 years haven’t been great ones for my Oakland Raiders squad, but some of the good moves taking place during the current 2014 Free agency period has me feeling good & optimistic. I have a feeling it won’t be long until my Raiders return to greatness which inspired me to post this mini-documentary of arguably the greatest Raiders squad in the history of the organization. I’ll never forget cheering loudly as a kid watching the Raiders win the Super Bowl in my mother’s living room back in the day. It’s been 31 years since the last Super Bowl win back then, but you can relive those moments with me in the perspective based video above. Back in 1983, NFL Hall Of Fame running back Marcus Allen & the Los Angeles Raiders truly had a ‘Run To Remember’.

Permanently Temporary: The Truth About Temp Labor (Documentary)

President Obama is on board with BIG retailers like Amazon, driving economic renewal AND employing more and more people with American jobs that cannot be outsourced.

Yay… right? No.

Temp labor is one of the fastest growing industries in the US. Increasingly, temp workers are part of a business strategy to keep costs down and profits high.

From mega-retailers to mom-and-pop shops, temps are hired to do some of the hardest and most dangerous jobs. While more and more of the American workforce is composed of temporary workers, they’re largely hidden from public view. Many of these workers stay silent, often having their livelihoods threatened if they speak out.

But that’s what VICE is best at doing: shedding light on shameful practices and telling the stories of people for whom it would be too dangerous to tell themselves. Damn shame that the largest corporations, time and again, ride the road to success on the backs of laborers with no regard to their interests or even their well-being… at all. Watch the documentary above. Learn.
