Illastrate – “PENGO / I Don’t Brag”
Check out this new digital ’12 from one of my favorite producers Illastrate featuring a gang of dope emcees. PENGO is a posse cut featuring Yamin Semali, Boog Brown, Joe D, Flux Da Wondabat, Lex Boogie From the Bronx, and Gotta Be Karim. Â The “B” side is a track with Willi Du Dat, Joe D, and Yamin Semali. Two dope tracks! Atlanta based hip hop fans will instantly recognize the intro featuring the homie JAX from Binkis Recs who first coined the term “Pengo” years before his passing.

Brooklyn Nets Coach Avery Johnson Fired (Video)
ESPN has confirmed that Avery Johnson, named Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for November, was fired by the Brooklyn Nets. Assistant P.J. Carlisemo was named interim head coach, and he will keep the rest of Johnson’s staff. A search for a new head coach will begin immediately.
Now eighth place in their Conference, the Nets started hot, winning 11 of their first 15 games; but only three of the last 13 in December. Simply put, the sizzle fizzled. So, Brooklyn’s management and ownership decided to fire Johnson.
“I just got a sense, as I told Avery this morning, that he just wasn’t reaching [the team] anymore.”
– Billy King, General Manager, Brooklyn Nets
Johnson’s reaction was captured in the clip above and in the clipped transcript below:
“…a really disappointing day… if I was owning the team, I wouldn’t have gotten fired today… it’s about the blame game… for the most part, in this business, the coach always gets blamed.”
– Avery Johnson, Former Coach, Brooklyn Nets
Wow… just… wow. Way to ride out the tough times with your coach, Nets! I wonder if the decision was unanimous… Somebody get Jigga on the phone… 1/15 of one percent of the money talks. Okay, okay…that was uncalled for…but funny though.
Would-be replacements for Johnson, a list of noteworthy available coaches includes Phil Jackson (good luck!), Jerry Sloan, Stan Van Gundy, Nate McMillan, Mike Dunleavy, Mike Brown, and ESPN’s Jeff Van Gundy and Flip Saunders.
See? This sh!t right here? This sh!t right here, ninja… is part of why why I feel it just ain’t the same game.

Raekwon – “Neither One Of Us”
Raekwon keeps it soulful with these darts he’s been throwing out every few days. This time he finds inspiration from Gladys Knight’s classic “Neither One Of Us” as fans get ready for him to drop his “Lost Jewelry” EP on January 8th. Makes me want to head on down to Gladys Knights Chicken & Waffles in downtown Atlanta right now….. “We’ll Break Your Legs For Steak & Eggs….” – Raekwon

R&B: Brandy – “How High”
Brandy had a relatively good 2012 with her return back to the music & making a variety of promo runs & interviews. I was even surprised to see her on ESPN’s First Take speaking on sports. Didn’t seem like people on twitter cared about what she was saying because all they could talk about was how her ass looked on the show. She did indeed look amazing though. To celebrate her great year & the upcoming release of her new album “Two Eleven” next year, she let go of this previously unreleased mid-tempo track called “How High”. I truly dig the song, but the only thing I wasn’t too happy about is when Brandy starts rapping under her alter ego “Bran’Nu”. In case you missed Brandy’s appearance on ESPN First Take check out the video after the jump…..
‘Mayan Doomsday 2012’…NASA Knew It Wouldn’t Happen (Video)
C’mon… you’ve been watching “The Walking Dead” on AMC… you peeped the movie trailers for “World War Z” and “After Earth”… You cannot tell me that along with those visions of sugarplums dancing in your head… you hadn’t thought about what might happen on 12/21/2012 (the day the world was supposed to end).
Okay, you don’t have to admit it. After all, you have the luxury of being here today saying “I knew it all along.” NASA’s and other scientists took a stand on this craziness before the so-called Doomsday date arrived.
‘…there was never evidence that the Maya culture predicted the end of the world on 12/21/12 . In fact, there are Mayan texts that refer to time periods beyond 2012.’
– Anthological archeologist Sonja Schwake
NASA made a video about it. Wanna see it? Click above.

So, here’s to hoping for a healthy, sure-to-be-artistic-and-eclectic baby for the happy couple.
