The UK collective known as July 5th consists of producer VersA Beatz & singer/songwriter Dukus who joined forces for this quality sounding “Breakfast In Paris” project. The duo describe their sound as “Pharrell meets Coldplay” as the music does follow a sort of R&B/Alternative vibe similar to the lane artists like Frank Ocean & The Weeknd have been running with. This 10-song free album/EP does have a slight difference in that their UK background presents another chilled out dynamic that makes this joint all the more impressive. This new joint from Nipsey Hussle featuring Rick Ross is probably where those past rumors of “Neighborhood Nip” possibly signing to Rick Ross’s Maybach Music Group were coming from. This “Proud Of That” joint seems like it may have been in the stash but it conveniently dropped as Rick Ross was holding a press conference for his recent signings to his label in which Nipsey wasn’t found to be a part of when it concluded. Not sure if this will officially appear on Nipsey’s upcoming “iHussle” project, but check it out while you can below…..

The J Dilla Foundation, spearheaded by his mother Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey, made the trip across the pond to London recently for a special event that raised over $17,000 for the organization & for Lupus UK. Many DJs rocked the London crowd with classic joints crafted by J Dilla through the evening & Detroit’s own Phat Kat even performed while Ma Dukes danced with the crowd as well. We watched this documentary on VH1 last night & I personally found it to be a very well put together & honest account of what took place during the L.A. Riots 20 years ago & how hip hop & it’s artists were not only early forecasters of things to come, but at times participants in one way or another.

It’s gonna be a great summer of blockbuster movies with “The Dark Knight Rises” opening July 20th amongst a whole host of other highly anticipated superhero & action films we’re all looking forward to seeing. With this reportedly the last & final part in the Batman trilogy it’s expected that director Christopher Nolan will pull out all the stops with actor Christian Bale reprising his role as Bruce Wayne & the caped crusader.

John Forte’ – The Russian Winter Documentary [Trailer]

John Forte’ spent 14 years of his life in federal prison for drug trafficking. That’s a huge chunk out of anyone’s life considering he was once riding high within the Fugees camp & as a solo artist in his own right. Upon his release from prison John Forte’ made a trek to Russia where he worked closely with a number of charities & this upcoming documentary that will be presented during the Tribeca Music Festival covers that experience. Check out what John Forte’ had to say about this project & now wanting to do the typical “rapper out of jail” documentary.
“I think the knee-jerk reaction of coming home was to make a documentary about my life preceding prison, and what took place in prison, leading up to me coming home. But something about it just didn’t feel right. It felt exploitative. You know, I went to prep school. When I came back to the ‘hood, it wasn’t like people slapped me on the back and said, ‘Wow, you got your stripes now.’ But there were so many guys that went for a year, went away for two years, went away for five years. And when they came back, it was almost like they were praised. And that’s the last message I wanted to send. There was nothing cool about my time away.” – John Forte’
