Now the name of the track did turn some people off but the lyrics from I-Octane and Chan Dizzy are very wicked. We featured this song on the ‘Face Off Friday January 2012’ promo mix and with all the attention in the Dancehall community from these two artists, they wasted no time to shoot a video. The visuals of the storyline speak for themselves but listen closely to the 2nd Verse where the artists go back/forth, kinda ILL!

For those who ‘STILL’ run jokes about how I-Wayne was pop down in most of the 2000’s, I must really point out how his latest album Life Teachings is REALLY DOPE. This is a good modern HD video for one of his bouncy songs off the album. With this track the message is still consistent with his overall image, and yeah, looks like he’s been eating good so no more jokes!

Jneiro Jarel x MF Doom are: JJ Doom – “Banished”

The Metal Face Villain and Philly producer Jneiro Jarel are teaming up as JJ DOOM (probaly could have come up with a better name but hey) for a project to be called “Keys to the Kuffs”.As to how Jnerio also known as Dr.WhoDat? got Doom to complete a project is a mystery,becuase we have still been watiting on rumored MF Doom collab projects for YEARS like Doom and Ghostface Killah, Madvillainy 2, Doom and Masta Ace, Doom and insert name here.It will be interesting to see what this project is going to sound like sonically with the pair being on the oppiste side of the spectrum musicailly. Doom is abstract with a very gritty sound and the eclectic Jarel is very polished. The common denominator is both are dope, which should make for a quality project.No release date is known as of yet but hopefully we hear something official soon.Enjoy

This is one of my many favorites from the one of the greatest jazz musician/songwriters, who was the embodiment of “Black is Beautiful”, Nina Simone (February 21,1933-April 21,2003). Although she wasnt traditional jazz, nor did she have the tradional smooth jazz/lounge voice like Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington,or Ella Fitzgerald but check the linear notes of any of your favorite hip hop albums and you will see her joints credited for samples everywhere. Heads knew muscially Nina Simone would “Put a Spell on You”.

Directed by Kevin MacDonald (The Last King of Scotland, State of Play), it is a documentary on the life, music, and legacy of legendary Jamaican singer-songwriter and musician, Bob Marley. The film was premiered at the 2012 Berlin Film Festival and set to hit SXSW Festival next month March 8th – 13th 2012 in Austin, Texas.
It is the first feature backed by the Marley family as well as the legend’s longtime music label head Chris Blackwell which should make for the most insightful look at his life yet as it follows “the musician, revolutionary and legend from his earliest days to his rise to international superstardom” using rare footage, archival photos and incredible performances and interviews with his family, friends and bandmates. I labeled this as “MTV’s Hottest Emcees Rappers In The Game” because not everyone on this list is an “emcee”….some are just rappers or singers. Either way it is what it is…Rap lists these days don’t hold much weight, but if you’re a real hip hop head like myself then you’ll chuckle out loud at some of things said by people on this panel. Ah well…What’d you expect from MTV & the current state of radio & rap music these days…Overall it’s just a reflection of how bad “mainstream” rap music is. There’s plenty of great music out there, but most of it ISN’T on the radio unfortunately. One thing I was surprised about was seeing the homie @BosNaud was on this panel. I haven’t looked at all the vids as of yet so I hope he represented well.
