Common – “Congratulations” feat. Cocaine 80s (Prod. By No ID)

Common-No-IDDeep. Listen up… esp. near the end. I mean, if that’s your friend, you stand with him at the wedding. But do you speak if she ain’t right for him; or hold your peace? I’m asking.

Well, whatever the answer, Common (with feat. Cocaine 80s) put in good work over this No ID track for “Congratulations” – no question. Get it FREE here.

Common On ESPN’s First Take During NBA All-Star Weekend (Video)

I’m here in Houston, Texas for all of the NBA All-Star weekend activities & one of the primary things I didn’t want to miss was ESPN’s First Take doing a live taping on Friday morning in Houston. Needless to say, due to schedule conflicts, I didn’t make it in the building but it sure looked like fun as Common was the special guest on the show. In this special edition that aired live Common debated with Skip Bayless & Stephen A. Smith on everything from playing in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game and those annoying arguments about who would win in a game of one-on-one between LeBron James or Michael Jordan.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Common drops through Big Boy’s show on Power 106 LA to speak on LUV’ (his movie)… to go back and forth with Big Boy flipping rhyme bits… to chop it up about Kanye & Kim K, G.O.O.D. Music and more.

Common feat. J. Period – “The Next Chapter (Still Love H.E.R.)”

gal-alicia-keys-12-jpgCommon links ups with DJ & producer J.Period for this new joint called “The Next Chapter (Still Love H.E.R.)” that will appear on J.Period’s upcoming project “Rage Is Back” due February 12th. Common delivers with the lyricism as usual & I’m diggin’ J.Period’s use of Portishead’s classic ‘Sour Times’ record.  It’s should be of no coincidence what J. Period is doing here as Common’s original classic “I Used To Love H.E.R.” also dropped in the same year of 1994 as the Portishead hit.  It all makes for a nice & almost subtle multi-musical metaphor for what they put together.  We still love H.E.R. too…

Common – ‘LUV’ (Movie Trailer)

Chicago’s Hip-Hop phenom and accomplished actor Common stars in “LUV” – a Sheldon Candis film. Common’s character “Vincent” takes his young nephew (played by Michael Rainey, Jr.) to ‘work for a day.’ But what starts as a loving skip-school-day-with-Uncle Vincent turns gritty quickly. Harsh street realities are brought right to the face of a boy who doesn’t even have time to grow up fast. The trailer teases us with clips from this Sundance Festival hit delivered by a cast that includes urban A-List celebs Charles S. Dutton, Dennis Haysbert, Meagan Good, and Danny Glover. Bet this is going to be a smash! Peep the trailer above & a few additional clips from the film below.

Common – “No Sell Out” (Prod. By NO I.D.) [Unreleased]

Dope Chi-town producer & Def Jam executive NO I.D., put this previously unreleased song he recorded with Common up on the web recently. I’m sure this is just one of many ‘Lost Songs’ by Common that may see the light of day eventually. Real hip hop heads may recall this is the same sample used by Main Source for the opening song ‘Snake Eyes’ off of their 1991 classic album ‘Breaking Atoms’.

TenDJiz – “CommoNasm” (Common x Nas Meet Soviet Soul/Jazz)

Mash up Common and Nas and mix in some Soviet soul to get “CommoNasm”…Clever…VERY clever! The liner notes at the Bandcamp or Soundcloud site for this gem should draw you in (like it did me):

“CommoNasm (Common and Nas Meet Soviet Soul/Jazz) is an album created by Miami-based producer/sound engineer TenDJiz by blending the acapellas of Common and Nas with instrumentals based on Soviet soul and jazz samples.”

Enjoy this TenDJiz mash-up, y’all. Looks like mash-ups are the in thing, huh?

Ayentee – Mos Common Thought (Frankensteined Vol.1) (Mixtape)

DOWNLOAD: AYENTEE – MOS COMMON THOUGHT (FRANKENSTEINED VOL.1)
Here is the first installment of a series called “Frankensteined.” The project’s Bay Area orchestrator, Ayentee, is a self-described out-of-the-box producer who set out to redefine “the remix” as we know it. “Mos Common Thought (Frankensteined Vol.1)” blends three unique emcees from three unique regions of the United States – Mos Def (Brooklyn), Common (Chicago), and Black Thought (Philadelphia) – over melodic beats to create a brand new listening experience. Listen to the result. And, hey, enjoy a “Bonus Track” on the house! You’re welcome.

Raphael Saadiq – “They Don’t Know” featuring Common & Ledisi (Unreleased)

Apparently this pretty cool joint produced by Steve Spacek was recorded back in 2004 with Raphael Saadiq, Common, & Ledisi. Not sure why it was never used & it’s quite possible that the song isn’t even finished.  I can just imagine all the other soulful dopeness that’s probably laying around on the hard drives of Raphael Saadiq or even Steve Spacek for that matter….

UPDATE:

“Back in 2004 Raphael Saadiq opened his studio doors to Spacek to produce an album for one of his sub-labels. The album was suppose to be called Pookie Blue Room and features 10 songs produced by both Steve and Morgan with Raphael singing on all of them and featuring guest appearances by Common , Q-Tip , Ledisi, Steve Spacek and Sir Bentley (you know it was 2004 when you see Sir Bentley’s name, ahaha)…anyhow the album was never completed and therefor never released…” – Mathieu Schreyer

J. Cole Shows Skills On The Court During NBA Celebrity Allstar Game (Video)

J.Cole has been having a very good week I see. After being snubbed for MTV’s Hottest Emcees of 2012, he dropped an very dope song called “Grew Up Fast” that we posted earlier to rave reviews & he got his shine on the basketball court during the NBA’s Celebrity Allstar Game down in Orlando tonight. Check out J. Cole’s Alley-Oop Dunk from comedian Kevin Hart, who was the game’s MVP even after being ejected earlier.  Also check out J. Cole blocking rapper & actor Common’s attempt at a layup underneath. Common hasn’t been fairing too well in these celebrity NBA games. If I remember correctly Justin Beiber once crossed Common over like Allen Iverson did Michael Jordan back in the day. Hahaaa!
