So how does this recipe sound? Take a veteran Producer who has created bangers for everyone from Freeway to Mayer Hawthorne & then add a young, creative emcee in his own zone. Well if the producer is Jake One and the emcee Dave B what you get is quality head nod music.  I have been on Dave B for a minute now and I am just waiting for that full project from him and Jake One but until then rock out with this new heat called “The Way.” Also featured on the track is Shelby Poole who provides some sultry vocals to complete the track.  I keep telling you all Seattle is producing some heat right now pay attention!

Seattle’s “Gifted Gab” Pulls A Lyrical “187” For The Moor Gang (Video)

There is a lot of quality Hip Hop coming out of the Pacific North West these days.  With artists like Dave B, Raz Simone also part of that Seattle wave is the “Moor Gang.“ The Moor Gang is a collective of emcees repping Seattle and their first lady is “Gifted Gab.” She lets loose some fire with her video for the track “187” .  The visuals are nicely done as she & the directors creatively borrow from the 1979 cult classic film “The Warriors.”  This is more of a mini-movie than a video directed by Andrew Imanaka, Devlin Dinish and Gabrielle Kadushin .  I had the pleasure of seeing Gifted Gab perform live last year at Bumbershoot Festival & I can say this sister is on her way so stay tuned!

I’m feeling the breezy island vibe of this new joint from Jamaican dancehall artist Magazeen. I’ve had the song on repeat about 10 times every since I heard it. Magazeen not a new artist, but he recently signed to Wale’s ‘EveryBlueMoon’ label through MMG a few months back. This new “So Low Wine” track definitely has a worldly influence & features D.C.’s Wale & Nigerian artist Wizkid. The new single will be on Magazeen’s upcoming “IRIE” EP dropping later this Summer. I love songs like this. Makes me want to take a flight to the Caribbean right now. Niiiiiice!

Brand new black & white video directed by Philly Fly Boy for T.I.’s latest single ‘Project Steps.’ Definitely diggin’ this song produced by Mars of the L.A. based production team & band “1500 or Nothin”. Detroit representer Trick Trick is among a few of the cameos that appear in this video which undoubtedly includes some of T.I.’s Hustle Gang crew. The song reminds me of one of my favorite Tupac classics called ‘Pain.’  T.I. doing it for 2015 & of course the dream-like street clip was shot here in Atlanta.

Brand new banger from Capone-N-Noreaga called ‘In The First.’ The song sounds so dope they should have named this “Murder In The First” the way they killed this joint! This track seems kinda short coming in at a little over 2 minutes long & Capone’s verse doesn’t appear to be on it so it’s possible that this is just a snippet of what’s to come. I hope to hear more bangers like this when they drop their upcoming project called “Lessons” due July 24th. BANGER!!!

The Future And Music Collectives (Video)

Very interesting. Music/culture collectives – already seen as go-tos for indie and underground (read: real) music and movements – could very well be controllers of the world of tomorrow. Time was, we went to other taste makers – deejays, radio, clubs, label imprints, print and video magazines – to learn what was new and worthy. Nowadays, largely enabled by Internet and mobile channels, we turn to curators who are independent themselves (e.g. not beholden to station management, programming consultants, the ‘charts’ or record/media manufacturers). Could it be that enough of us have turned away from old commercial channels that big name companies of all kinds who want to reach us reach out to Soulections and OKPlayers (and ehem JAYFORCEs) of the world? Real music, real culture from real outlets NOT begging or cowering for big ad bucks.
