Blu x Exile – “A Man”
Maaaaannnn! This is DOPE! “A Man” is a cut off the “Maybe One Day” EP (out now); and it will be on the upcoming Blu and Exile album “Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them” (due out September 4, 2012). You gotta listen to this. It’s not just lyrical, it’s spiritual…cerebral…all that…literally!

Comedian/Actor Jimmie “JJ” Walker Talks with Tavis Smiley (Video)
Jimmie Walker talks about his book, “Dyn-O-Mite,” during his interview on the “Tavis Smiley Show.” Mr. Smiley asks Mr. Walker about his experiences, lessons learned, etc. during and since his breakout role on the show “Good Times.” Very enlightening to really hear from and see Jimmie Walker beyond “JJ.” Good vid. Take a look. And watch the WHOLE THING! It turns out that “Good Times” was probably not what you thought. And there is so much more to Jimmie Walker than you probably knew!

R.I.P. Kile Glover (Cover Story)
It is with a heavy heart that we at JayForce.com report the passing of young Kile Glover, 11, stepson of Grammy-winning R&B singer Usher Raymond. The LA Times and the Atlanta Journal Constitution both affirm that Kile died this past Saturday, nearly two weeks after sustaining critical injuries in a boating accident on Metro Atlanta’s Lake Lanier. When news of Kile’s death was first released, it was said that Kile’s mother, the former Tameka Foster-Raymond, requested an end to Kile’s suffering once it was determined that he could not possibly recover from the injuries he had sustained. Later, it was clarified that Kile had succumbed; a result of congestive heart failure. Regardless, Kile’s battle has ended. We cannot imagine the grief being suffered by those left to mourn little Kile. We can only offer our deepest sympathies to the extended family left to mourn in the wake of this tragic loss. However, to you our reader, we offer the following admonishment: If you have been so blessed to have a little angel or angels in your life, hug and kiss them NOW; while they are on this side! Whatever else you think is more important…it’s not. Rest in peace, Kile.

Kanye West – “Homecoming” [Urban Noize Remix]
“The inspiration for Mr. West came from all the great music that Kanye’s been releasing as of late. & As well from the past. From ‘Watch The Throne’, ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’, ‘808s & Heartbreak’, ‘Graduation’, to the more recent like “Way Too Cold (Theraflu)”, “New God Flow”, & “Mercy”.  The overall energy hes been bringing has been incredible & so witnessing that energy inspired us to go in on his records with a similar mind frame. Which for us meant, tailor making instrumentals to fit his passionate lyrics, all while still trying to push the boundaries a bit. With the soundscapes consisting of orchestra, soul, indie rock, pop, funk & hip hop. So without furtherado, Mr. West” – Urban Noize

Rewind: Michael Moore – “Bowling For Columbine” (Documentary)
In light of the recent tragedy in Colorado involving a domestic terrorist shooting up a crowded movie theater, I immediately thought to myself that this is the second huge incident of gun violence to occur in the Rocky Mountain state. The U.S. has the largest amount of guns per capita in the world & staggering statistics in the amount of people killed every year. There are many other countries around the world with a high amount of guns per capita but their death & injury rates are far lower than the numbers here in the United States. Cities around the U.S. like Chicago are having rising rates of gun violence & far too often African-American males are the victims. It seems the U.S. has a problem that occurs everyday in its cities, but people don’t stop to reflect on it until something huge happens like out west in Colorado. All this week I’m positive the topic of discussion will & should revolve around gun violence. Director & social activist Michael Moore has had his 2002 documentary ‘Bowling For Columbine’ up on the web for free for sometime now & if you’ve never seen it this maybe a something to review before we all try to go back to business as usual on Monday.

Buffalo Bills’ Shawne Merriman’s NFL Comeback Workout (Video)
Shawne Merriman is looking forward to the next NFL season; and he DEFINITELY plans to be there in solid form! Check this vignette to see how he is working his way back to being in prime condition (after his achilles injury) over the break. Man, note the intelligence built into this workout: No slacking, but no uselessness (i.e. not necessary to run 10 miles to workout when Merriman will never run more than a few yards a play). Impressive all around. Morning motivation!

NFL’s Victor Cruz Stops By The ‘Daily Show with Jon Stewart’ (Video)
Like him or love him, Jon Stewart has a regular guy’s understanding of a lot of things…makes him easy for anyone to relate to. Couple that with the outstanding guests his people book for the show – like Victor Cruz – and you’ve got a winner! Peep the interview. In less than six minutes (go ahead and run “The Show” sample in your head; I’ll wait), Jon leads Victor through a talk on going from walk-on-taking-a-shot to still-humble-superstar. Good nuggets about what’s important in life AND in football in there; and the studio and home audience definitely got it. Click and watch so you can get it!

TenDJiz – “CommoNasm” (Common x Nas Meet Soviet Soul/Jazz)
Mash up Common and Nas and mix in some Soviet soul to get “CommoNasm”…Clever…VERY clever! The liner notes at the Bandcamp or Soundcloud site for this gem should draw you in (like it did me):
“CommoNasm (Common and Nas Meet Soviet Soul/Jazz) is an album created by Miami-based producer/sound engineer TenDJiz by blending the acapellas of Common and Nas with instrumentals based on Soviet soul and jazz samples.”
Enjoy this TenDJiz mash-up, y’all. Looks like mash-ups are the in thing, huh?

Joey Bada$$ x Pro Era Cypher (Video)
Crazy! Joey Bada$$ and Pro Era (his crew) roam New York City…then end up on a stoop rhyming in a cipher. The “beats” are provided by a human beat box (for the cipher). Of course this video was planned and shot; but the feel is still organic…genuine. Cool.

B.o.B Takes Over Sweden (Video)
Let this montage (“B.o.B Takes Over Sweden”) be your ticket to ride with B.o.B. on his tour-year tour through Sweden. This video feels more like a “rock-umentary” than a rap documentary…because that’s what it is. On one level, it gives an “almost first person” understanding of life on the tour; on another, a turn-out-until-you-burn-out cycle of rehearsals-shows-appearances-interviews-booze-no snooze. Very interesting.

Pharoahe Monch x Jean Grae Perform In South Africa (Video)
While still touring & still supporting his dope “W.A.R. (We Are Renegades)” album, Pharoahe Monch alongside the equally as dope lyricist Jean Grae made a tour stop in South Africa for the Capetown International Jazz Festival. In the video above they speak on their first time visiting South Africa to perform, Pharoahe’s decision to shoot a video for his next single “Haile Selassie Karate” while in SA, & more. Watching the video has me anxious to get back to South Africa. I can’t wait to go back & visit again….
