During the SXSW festival that just concluded down dere’ in big ‘ol Texas, Kendrick Lamar performed one of my favorite songs from his Section 80 album. It’s quite evident that “Hol’Up” is not just one of my personal favorites from the the Cali kid, but the fans in Austin Texas too as they were saying the words to the song almost verbatim. We discuss his distinct cadence and Jamaican rap style that is unique to him from the 1990’s. He explains the motivation behind the creation of his own label ‘Dawg House’, voicing new riddims with fellow artists yet also the good/bad about being a solo agent in the Dancehall industry. We also get a snippet of his new track with Peetah Morgan, and Bounty Killa was the first to voice on this new riddim! Next interview we’ll ask if he’s rolling with Team Celtics or the Miami Heat?

SXSW: Older Established Artists Vs. Independent Young Newcomers (Video)

Prior to SXSW Festival I’ve heard plenty of artists with concerns the festival was beginning to get too “commercialized” & loosing the essence of what it was originally intended to be. The homie Senor Kaos wrote a brief piece on his blog detailing his reservations about the direction in which SXSW has been moving in recent years . On twitter during the festival I saw a number of younger independent artists upset about artists like 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Eminem, T.I., & Lil Wayne & more larger names performing down there. Personally I believe the established acts coming down to SXSW can be a positive as long as these artists aren’t hogging the shine from the new independents. If anything the the stages should cross pollinate the indies more with the established heavyweights as the headliners or anchors. I generally agree with most of what’s being said in the debate above, but it’s important that the indie artists who don’t have the immediate big bucks & huge marketing campaigns don’t get shut out over time.

Homeboy Sandman is gearing up to release his “Chimera” album due in April on Stones Throw Records & this joint right here is a nice standout track from the project called “Cops Get Scared Of Me” produced by Exile. The homie ‘Sand sounds good rocking over some Exile production so hopefully they’ll continue to collaborate more in the future. The title of this song couldn’t be any more appropriate & ironic to be leaked around this time with tensions rising following the murder of 17 year old Trayvon Martin down in Florida.

BMW i8 Sporty Hybrid Car (Video)

I was speaking with my homie DJ Blakmagic yesterday & he was telling me about the Atlanta International Auto show that was taking place in the city over the weekend. Blak told me that unlike previous years where there were many luxury, sports cars, & concept cars on the showroom floor, this year they were very few if any. It’s apparent that those elements of the trade show are most likely casualties to the current economic conditions the country has been facing including General Motors’s recent rebound from financial collapse in Detroit. One of the concept cars we did discuss was a new BMW hybrid that will most likely be in production & on the road in a year or two. This joint is pretty cool from southside Atlanta emcee, singer, & producer ForteBowie. This new single & video for “Impala” appears on his “Something About #Bowie” mixtape that’s out now. Not sure if this will also appear on his project Passion & Confusion due in April but this definitely a nice precursor to that because its a definite standout track on the mixtape in my opinion. Having a wide range of abilities in playing a variety of instruments as well with writing & song/vocal arrangements I’m not sure if ForteBowie will be going into a variety of directions with his next full-length project or if it will be similar to the mixtape. The video was shot by director Supadope in the Cobb county area of Atlanta featuring a chocolate stunna named “Cali” who plays the female love interest. Check out the video and/or listen to or download the mixtape including this joint “Impala” under the hood…….
