James Brown – “I Feel Good” (El. Train Remix)

Do you know your James Brown music when you hear it? Okay, well hold on. Throw that sound you have stored in your music memory bank for “I Feel Good,” but go find your dancing shoes. Alright, dancing shoes aren’t mandatory; but give this very different-sounding take on this Mr. Dynamite hit (submitted by hip Brit El. Train) a listen.

So my dad (Mr. I Know Everything About Music) said I should be playing a 10 minute James Brown track as an intro to all my sets. This one’s not quite 10 minutes but it is the legend himself or my interpretation of him…

Rewind: Judge Joe Brown Says James Earl Ray Didn’t Assassinate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr (Video)

It’s been almost 50 years to this date, April 4th, that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr was assassinated in Memphis Tennessee. Judge Joe Brown was the last judge to preside over alleged shooter, James Earl Ray’s case. To this very day Judge Joe Brown still believes “he didn’t kill him.” Judge Joe Brown says he didn’t believe Ray was the gunman despite his guilty plea. Joe Brown denied that he was involved in Dr. King’s murder but plead guilty because he felt it was in his best interest under the circumstances given.

R&B: Frank Ocean – ‘Dying For Your Love’ feat. James Fauntleroy

There was a slight twitter controversy with these two artists after Frank Ocean was offended with Chris Brown comparing him to singer/songwriter James Fauntleroy. Frank Ocean may have thought it was a diss, but he may have been unaware that James Fauntleroy wrote many of Chris Brown’s hits. It’s evident that things have been cleared up & it’s all love now as they have this new track together.

Chris Brown Is ‘Cold Blooded’ When It Comes To Dancing (Video)

Very few male R&B artists can kill the dancing game like Chris Brown. Despite his recent troubles the kid is still not to be f*ckd with when it comes to performing. I first met Chris Brown when he was young eager 16 year old kid just getting his start in the game & introducing himself to any DJ who would listen to him. To see how far the Virginia native has come & blown up is truly amazing. Check out the video above as Chris Brown does what he does best over a classic Rick James joint….

Neak – “Legacy” (Video)

Music video for that “Legacy” single from Neak posted on here last month.

The essence of the LEGACY video is to highlight musical greats before me who’ve created the platform for our generation to freely be who we are. Without the likes of legends such as James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, 2Pac, etc. there would not be a space for artists like myself to create. This music video is to honor the Legacy laid before us within the music industry.

Hiplet: Now Hip-Hop Is En Pointe (Video)

I will admit to turning a ‘side eye’ to Hip-Hop dance brought into a ballet milieu. Though I was not mad like the why-are-THOSE-PEOPLE-invading-our-artful-dance ballet purists. I was mad like F##K-their-fancy-shmancy-dancy-sh!t, we got our OWN legit dance practiced by the WORLDWIDE Hip-Hop Nation!

But seeing this helped me realize that whatever we do that aspires to LOVE, PEACE, UNITY, and HAVING FUN (word to Africa Bambatta and Soul Brother #1 Mr. James Brown) is a good thing.

A man of color forges a new art form that allows anyone to be down; first and foremost the have-nots and those previously left out. That art form grows, gets embraced by those for whom it was meant and is spread to, through and by everyone who enjoys it. Sound like a familiar story? This IS Hip-Hop showing its essence in another form, no less true. And it is beautiful.

So are the ladies doing it in the above mini-documentary. Wowee-wow-WOW. I love these HIPS… I mean Hiplet dancers!

(Hey, they are fine af ok? You see ’em. And if you’re mad at that, you can stay mad. Ha!)

Watch this. Enlightenment awaits. I was thoroughly edutained (educated and entertained, word to KRS-ONE). Bet you will be, too!

Grammy Winner D’Angelo Talks With Tavis Smiley About “Black Messiah” And More (Video)

Come to think of it: Was there ‘Neo-Soul’ music before D’Angelo? Not much, if any. He was a founding father of the genre, so to speak. From the son of a Baptist preacher, heavily influenced by church music, to making that funky stuff that grew from steeping in all that Stevie Wonder, George Clinton, James Brown, and Prince growing up. Then he got ‘extra-grown’ for the ladies with that “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” song and video. That earned him a Grammy (Best Male R&B Vocal Performance).

And then…nothing…for like over 10 years.

Now D’Angelo is back with his latest project, “Black Messiah.” And here he is talking to Tavis about it and more. Hey, it took two episodes to convey the convo. Keep watching after the jump.
