X-Men: Days of Future Past (Trailer)

Professor X (Patrick Stewart) gets to meet young Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) in this one. That’d be enough, right? But the trailer for X-Men: Days of Future Past is LOADED with story and character to spare… Wolverine traveling back in time, sort of introducing the modern era X-Men to the sequel’s (1960s-era set of X-Men: First Class) people. Young Mystique, young Magneto, seasoned Magneto … and Storm (yeah, Halle is on board). Director Bryan Singer is bringing it – May 23, 2014.

Nat King Cole Documentary: Afraid of the Dark (Trailer)

“Not only was the world ready for his music, it was ready for his color.”

Talk about ‘Afraid of the Dark’ (didn’t we just post another documentary trailer with that title?). Nat King Cole was a bold brother on TV while the KKK was running wild. Mr. “Unforgettable” was making American classic music even with that kind of racism, fear and loathing as a backdrop. Bold. Easy to see why those determined to hate were afraid. Watch the above trailer; teasing what promises to be a great film documenting Cole’s life and times with footage and commentary from those who knew, admired and loved the legend.

Jamie Foxx Stars in ‘Annie’ Movie Remake (Trailer)

Something about it when actors who play dark characters flip and do warmer, heartfelt roles… Jamie “Django” Foxx and Bobby “Gyp Rosetti” Cannavale (formerly of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire) are in the ensemble cast of a remake of a family movie classic – “Annie.” Good stuff for the silver screen coming this Christmas.

Transformers: Age Of Extinction (Official Trailer)

After a couple of shorter trailers leading up to the Super Bowl, director Michael Bay & the makers of the fourth installment of the Transformers films give us more of the premise & of what we can expect when the new sequel hits theaters this summer. After viewing this trailer it appears this could be the darkest sequel of the Transformers movies that have up to this point grossed close to $3 billion dollars worldwide. Not only does the film appear to be grittier, but the fans will not find former lead actor Shia LaBeouf in the lead role in this one although producers have easily found a suitable replacement.

Mark Wahlberg plays a struggling mechanic trying to make ends meet to support his family when he makes a discovery in search for scrap auto parts. It turns out that one of the beat up vehicles he finds turns out to be Optimus Prime. There’s not much else given away in the storyline between the Autobots, Decepticons, & the adversarial government forces but from the trailer it’s clear the popular ‘Dinobots’ from the cartoon series will surface in the film. I’m looking forward to it when the film hits theaters June 27th.

9th Wonder At Harvard: “The Hip-Hop Fellow” (Trailer)

Slated for release next month, “The Hip-Hop Fellow” is a feature-length film documenting super-producer 9th Wonder’s time as a Harvard University professor, teaching “The Breaks” to a bunch of students of the Cambridge (Massachusetts) institution. 9th Wonder’s contribution is an awesome complement to Harvard’s Hip-Hop Archive (see our post on Nas being honored there). Each and together these are a blessing to the campus community and the world.

The trailer captures commentary and cosigns by Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Young Guru, Pete Rock, DJ Premier and more. This documentary is going to be a “don’t miss” to be certain. Watch.

He has the love for it. He has the drive for it. It’s always been in him. He’s the genius behind it. You know, it’s only right.

Cesar Chávez: An American Hero (Movie Trailer)

“You can’t humiliate someone who has pride.”

A soldier-general at the head of another history’s battles for human rights and dignity, Cesar Chavez has a movie coming about life and life accomplishments this March. Should be a must see.

Directed by Diego Luna, Chávez chronicles the birth of a modern American movement led by famed civil rights leader and labor organizer, Cesar Chávez. Torn between his duties as a husband and father and his commitment to bringing dignity and justice to others, Chávez embraced non-violence as he battled greed and prejudice in his struggle for the rights of farm workers. His triumphant journey is a remarkable testament to the power of one individual’s ability to change the system.

Heaven Can Wait: The Story Behind The Wall (Mini-Documentary)

“…the situation in Chicago…the war going on in the streets with these kids…these children are too young…haven’t lived for their maximum potential yet…[to] society and the world…their energy, their leadership…Heaven can wait for these kids…They haven’t had the opportunity to live…”

Kevin “Mr. Soul” Harp

Great story-behind-the-story (visually delivered by w. Feagins Jr.; music by the homie Focus…) exploring the meaning and motivation behind the “Heaven Can Wait” mural. Artwork by Atlanta-based artists Craig “Flux” Singleton, Kevin “Mr. Soul” Harp and Goldi Gold. Moving piece.

People, watch this piece. A worthwhile holiday wish: Peace and a cease to the violence and loss of life and vital youth energy going on in Chi Raq (an unfortunate nickname for modern Chicago, for more see our earlier post here). And in this holiday season (and seasons beyond), please hug your loved ones (esp. the kids) extra tight.

“Transcendence” (Movie Trailer)

Incredible trailer to say the least. Keep telling yourself, “It’s just a movie. They can’t do that in real life.” Sure. But do me a favor before you get too comfortable with that assertion. Google “yadabyte” for me. Remember when kilobytes and megabytes were “big” to us? Like in the 1990s? We could be closing in the big tech that could drive ‘the singularity.’

And leave it to Morgan Freeman to be [part of a group] ‘playing God’ in a movie. Hahaaa. Looks like a powerful story though. Check out Johnny Depp the super genius in the lead role in “Transcendence” (due out in theaters April 17, 2014) above.

Comedy: ‘Curse of Chucky’ Prank Scares Brazilian Bus-Stop Patrons (Video)

Ahahaaaaaa! Down in Brazil, Chucky got ’em stankin’ up their britches, as my folks might say. Translation: Pranksters dressed an actor up as famed cult horror character/doll ‘Chucky’ and had him scaring the sh!t out of hapless victims waiting at a bus stop in Brazil.

A film crew set Chucky up in a hideaway behind a bus stop wall ad. Then they taped several patrons giving real life reactions to the fake mini-monster’s attack. Hilarious! Watch.

(And you would’ve run, too. Don’t front!)
