You hear that??? Dude said he wants to “Save someone’s LIFE through the music!

Now, we hold up Joey Bada$$, Cole, Kendrick, A$AP Rocky, Chris Rivers, and several others as the embodiment of the modern “real emcee” archetype for the 21st century. But wait. Let me add another to your list: A-F-R-O (born James Gutierrez). Watch his compelling story and point of view in the above documentary vignette on the young emcee; entitled “Hip-Hop’s Raider of the Lost Art.”

Skillz – “2015 Rap Up”

Happy New Year I hope you brought in safely.  So many annual New Year traditions like the champagne toast, the ball drop, people letting gunshots off happen every year.  Well you can also add the yearly Rap Up by Skillz where the VA bred emcee touches on all of the highlights and low-lights of the past year.  There was plenty to choose from in the 2015 Rap Up from Police Brutality, Bruce Jenner, Drake/Meek Mill, Rachel Dolezal, to all of the popular dances.  All of these items and more are perfectly put into rhyme by Skillz.  Now let 2016 begin and provide Skillz material for the 2016 Rap Up!

Screen Shot 2016-01-02 at 8.07.43 PMAs the new year of 2016 begins we have to take a moment to reflect and pay tribute to Dr. Frances Cress Welsing who has passed away at the age of 80 on January, 2nd 2016.  Born in Chicago, IL March 18th 1935 daughter of Henry N. Cress (physician) & Ida Mae Griffen (teacher) she was always in an academic background.  She went on to obtain her B.S. degree from Antioch College and her M.D. at Howard University in the 1960’s in psychiatry.

She made DC her home after her time at Howard University where she worked at many hospitals especially children’s hospitals.  She is probably most known for her book “The Isis Papers” where she discussed the Melanin Theory and tackles the topic of White Supremacy.  For decades she tirelessly worked to make sure that her works would help teach black people especially black children to have a love of themselves and their rich history.

She has spoken at numerous universities and taken part in a number of documentaries and she was a part of the Hidden Colors Documentary produced by Tariq Nasheed who worked with her as his mentor.  Dr Welsing will truly be missed but her great works will not be forgotten! X-Men: Apocalypse (Trailer)

If you’ve kept up with the Marvel over the years then you’d probably come to the same conclusion as I have that the actor Oscar Isaac portraying the villain “Apocalypse” doesn’t, by all appearances, seem like the proper person for the role. However the actress Alexandra Shipp who will play “Storm” in the film does appear to look the part.  Just my two cents.  We all know the keys to make the film successful is the acting, direction, & the script. We’ll see this summer.  I’m looking forward to Memorial Day weekend when X-Men: Apocalypse is in theaters on May 27th, 2016.

“Following the critically acclaimed global smash hit X-Men: Days of Future Past, director Bryan Singer returns with X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.”

Independence Day: Resurgence (Trailer)

Will Smith doesn’t appear in the sequel to the 1996 original “Independence Day” film that officially launched his career as an action hero, but director Roland Emmerich brings back Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum & adds Liam Hemsworth to pick up the slack 20 years later. Will the sequel be better than the original without the Fresh Prince? We’ll see this Summer on June 24th, 2016…..about 2 weeks before Independence Day.

“We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.”
