Former Record Industry Exec Speaks On Suge Knight (Video)

Damn. By three minutes in former industry exec Virgil Roberts spilled that Suge Knight had the powers-that-be shook EVEN THOUGH Suge was NOT a true OG. Wow.

Well, he was around back when Suge was really reigning; and he is very forthcoming with his what-had-happeneds in the interview above. More commentary on that era after the jump.

(Whoa! He talked about the Vanilla Ice balcony strong-arm incident in this, too? Yes.)

Havoc Speaks On Coming Up In Queensbridge, Mobb Deep, And Losing Prodigy (Video)

RIP Prodigy for real. And if anyone, ANYONE, should be heard on that, it’s Havoc. They have been through it in all ways – on the come up, after the Mobb fame wave ebbed, falling out with each other, squashing the beef finally, and then… damn.

After the untimely death of Prodigy, DJ Vlad sits down with his longtime friend and the other half of Mobb Deep, Havoc. Havoc details what it was like growing up in Queensbridge, their first rap names, and reveals Prodigy turned down a deal to work with him at first. The producer then goes on to talk about making their first album, Prodigy teaching him how to sample and them getting a deal at LOUD records.

Throughout the conversation Havoc discusses some of the milestones in their career from the ‘Hennesy’ shirts, creating “Shook Ones,” dissing 2Pac before his death, their beef with Jay-Z, and what it was like seeing Lil Kim write her “Quiet Storm” verse. Hav also speaks on the rumor of P choking on an egg and the cause of his death before looking back on the legacy that they left in Hip-Hop.

Listen to Havoc pay respect to his brother above.

Kool G Rap Speaks On Mumble Rap, His Album & Tour, And Respect For Sean Price (Video)

I don’t think much of mumble rap, I don’t think highly of it…so many things that young cats are doing have nothing to do with the roots of where this thing started from.
Kool G Rap

Ah! This clip might sting a bit. See, Kool G Rap gets around to [more than] inferring that the surge in popularity of “mumble rap” is the listeners’ fault! Come on… There is a song called “Peek A Boo”… A cat is out here getting MAJOR check from a song called “Peek A Boo.”

Yeah. That’s where we are with the rap that the masses love out here today.

Damn.

(But hey, that new Kool G Rap is LOADED with features from LYRICISTS though… including Sean Price!)

Treach Tells The Truth ‘They’ Tried To Hide From Him About His Homie 2Pac’s Assassination (Video)

Holy sh!t. This went exactly NOT as Vlad expected, but exactly the way it needed to. Bet money that the hit count on this episode goes nowhere near a million. Mumble rap and booty shake, yes, multimillion views. The truth in tell-it-like-it-is vids like this, HELL NO! But that ain’t gonna stop me from watching and sharing this Treach (of Naughty By Nature) confessional. You should do the same. I would not mind being wrong on this one!

Treach opened up to VladTV about getting the news that 2Pac was shot in Vegas, which he initially thought wasn’t a big deal. However, as time went on, he couldn’t get through to anyone close to the wounded rapper, and Treach said everyone knew to keep him away from the hospital due to his hot temper.

During the conversation, Treach spoke about how hard it was to record “Mourn You Till I Join You” and his thoughts on 2Pac’s murder being the worst kept secret. Hit the above video to hear what he had to say.

Russ Speaks On Fake Indie Artists, How He Got On, & How Signed Artists Are ‘Putting Fans On’ (Video)

Russ declares that he knew NO ONE when he was struggling: no plug, no connect, no one to put him down with the ATL scene… and yet he made it as an Indie artist. A true Indie artist… not like the artists that he puts on blast for ‘acting Indie’ when they are already signed.

Yeah, guess it is the thing to be nowadays. You know, it’s kind of like when real po’ folks had baggy or ripped jeans; and fakers made it ghetto chic fashion. Then we see stonewashed jeans and ‘distressed’ denims in retail stores; and artists playing it tough life ‘buying’ them.

(Or maybe today like labels buying their artists song hits and video views… uh oooohhhh. Stay real!)

Lord Jamar Speaks On President Trump, Kanye West Wanting “In” The White House And More (Video)

Brand Nubian’s Lord Jamar is a VladTV regular. Usually comes through provacative & entertaining interviews. Some have that crazy-enough-to-make-scary-sense feel, though, like this one. He touches on Donald Trump’s tendency to Tweet off cuff, while in his feelings… thoughts on Black celebs like Jim Brown and Kanye West meeting with Trump.

Hmmm… Kanye gets dissed as a ‘jackass’ when President Obama was in the White House AND Jay Z and Beyonce were always welcome. Yeezy might be thinking about ‘hitting back’ with visits and while The Trumps run the place?

Interesting viewpoint, Lord Jamar. Interesting…

(Talk about The ‘West’ Wing… Yeezus H. Kanye!)

Salaam Remi, Amy Winehouse’s Main Producer, Speaks On Her Artistic Influence, Dying At 27 And More (Video)

Ohhhh! Amy Winehouse’s main producer was Salaam Remi? That’s one of Nas’ go-to producers. Wonder if that is what put them in contact (e.g. both working with and trusting Remi), allowing them to grow their friendship. Or was it that those two were friends… and one introduced the other to Salaam Remi.

Salaam Remi is one of the producers who worked heavily with the late Amy Winehouse. The producer discusses meeting Amy, and how they would come together to produce jazz music. He goes on to speak about her issues with love, her sense of humor and how that affected her music. Talib Kweli Insists That Seasoned Artists Can Learn From Lil Yachty & 21 Savage (Video)

Talib Kweli tells Vlad that Lil Yachty, 21 Savage, Ugly God and the other young’uns in the rap game have something to teach the rap vets. No, helllll nooo; not about putting out good music. Rather, they know how to get a buzz that gets heat for an artist without paying playing the radio game. And that game has gotten even more expensive and more ‘in the shadows’ nowadays.

F*ck radio…don’t need no radio… [and] F*CK Gene Simmons!

Heather Hunter: Former Adult Industry Icon & Hip-Hop Insider Speaks (Video)

Vlad interviewed Heather Hunter. I will post most anything I can on Heather Hunter. Dude. Before porn was online, before I could even get it via discreet mail order, Heather’s were performances you sought in that back room of the video rental store or in your homies’ sock drawer stashes. Respect to Vanessa Del Rio, Angel Kelly, and countless other adult film actresses I have enjoyed… but Heather was the MAJOR! Moreover, she experienced cross-industry success in a way others have not. She literally had licks AND lyrics that made men AND women go WOW. Facts!

So how & why did she do it? What happened during & after? Why’d she stop? She tells Vlad. Score and salute for the scoop on this one, sir.

Heather Hunter has enjoyed successful careers in both the film and music industries, and she revealed that while many people would think it would be taboo to come from the industry to music, she got nothing but love. Heather explained that she always had a closeness with the Hip-Hop industry after growing up in the Bronx and frequenting Latin Quarter, one of the first clubs in NYC to play Hip-Hop. Heather added that she was able to work with some big names, including Scott Storch, Timbaland, Uncle Luke, and Akinyele, who mentored her at the beginning of her music career.

During the conversation, Heather also spoke about getting her start in her career after being discovered in the strip club when she was eighteen, after starting in the club just a couple of years earlier when she left home. She added that just one year after being in the business she started working for Vivid as a contract girl, which Heather admitted opened up a lot of opportunities. To hear more from Heather, including why she decided to fully retire from the industry, hit the above clip.

More after the jump.

Dr. Umar Johnson: outspoken, massively popular… and a target. In the above interview, he clarifies that high-profile people, such as himself, are targeted by media spinners and even women with unknown motives; specifically, a woman he met in Florida who calls herself the “Conscious Stripper.” She turned on Dr. Johnson in a very public way, and in the fallout from the incident he lost a million-dollar donation from an NBA player he would not name. Dr. Johnson declared that if he had known that he was going to be famous, he would have gotten married before the fame. Marriage calms you down and keeps you out of trouble.

Hmmm… something to consider guys… Put a ring on her, so she can rein you in.

Redman Speaks On Beef Being More Aggressive Back In The 90s, MC Hammer Confronting Him And More (Video)

Social media has changed music in general, including how rappers beef nowadays. Back in the 1990s, if beef was real, rap dudes came to SEE you and get it on strong! Redman comments on how social media gives artists a chance to start, then settle, beef before it gets physical. He quickly follows up that overall, it is a good thing that artists don’t have to get violent nowadays. BUT… he does recall how real beefing can get. MC Hammer let Red know back in the day.

Speaking [about] rap beef, Redman shared a story about the time MC Hammer confronted him at the taping of the last Yo! MTV Raps episode over his diss on his debut album. Redman pointed out that MC Hammer is very serious about beef, adding that he knew the “2 Legit 2 Quit” rapper wasn’t messing around when he stepped to him at the show.
DJ Vlad

Haha! Red is hilarious, but speaking realness. Great clip!

(Yes, sir! The 3-5-7, too. Baaahahaaa!)

Dr. Boyce Watkins: “Bill O’Reilly Caters to American Racism” (Video)

Recently Dr. Boyce Watkins sat down with Vlad TV and he discussed Racism in America.  More importantly he discussed how Bill O’Reilly caters to a certain audience in America.  Dr. Watkins sheds light on the fact that a lot of what O’Reilly spews on the airwaves is what many Americans of the dominant culture feel but are afraid to say.  People like Rush Limbaugh and Bill O’Reilly make millions off of racist rhetoric and divisive lanuguage.  Well I will let you listen to the Doc break it down much more eloquently.

Lord Jamar Of Brand Nubian Speaks On How The Music Industry Is Pushing A Gay Agenda (Video)

‘Rap is gay-friendly. Rap is rich-friendly… There’s a lot of people with money that happen to be homosexual.’

Lord Jamar (of Brand Nubian)

Wow. Suffice it to say, Lord Jamar speaks his mind. He says rap ‘speaks for the haves, where Hip-Hop speaks for the have-nots.’ Above, the emcee speaks VERY deliberately about the difference between ‘rap’ and ‘Hip-Hop’ and about what Hip-Hop is and is not. He also declares who has the right to say what Hip-Hop is and those who do not. Jamar apparently sees rising music star Macklemore as an avatar for what he’d call the gay agenda in rap. Watch the clip as Lord Jamar speaks (plainly) for himself.
