Cover Story: Watch The Cyntoia Brown Documentary And Learn About How Her Story Has Gone Viral (Video)

Have you heard, or been following, the #FreeCyntoiaBrown movement? Cyntoia Brown has already been in prison for well over a decade, convicted of murder as a teen. The story has recently resurfaced and gone viral. Gotten the attention of celebs like Rihanna, and Kim Kardashian (see what she tweeted after the jump) has said she has reached out to her lawyers to see what she could do to help.

Embedded above is a documentary on Cyntoia. Watch. Watch NOW. They are snatching copies of the documentary offline with the quickness (took digging to find this one). At least the PBS Independent Lens trailer (after the jump) should remain stable, since it has been since 2011. Matter of fact, eff that: going in after the jump and posting all the clips PBS left up. Maybe PBS will re-release the documentary itself in full. This story should be known, told and retold. Tragedy begets more tragedy. You (me, we). Must. LEARN!

Also, you can also become better versed in the various details of the case and campaign to get Cyntoia Brown freed via the links below.

(More backstory and catch-up content after the jump, including clips from Roland S. Martin on TV One and Big Tigger on Atlanta’s V-103 radio.)

Naughty by Nature’s Treach sat down with DJ Vlad to talk growing up in New Jersey, transitioning from the street life to rapping, and what it was like experiencing the success of “OPP” and “Hip Hop Hooray.” Also having a close relationship with the late Tupac Shakur, Treach details their bond, what it was like at the height of the East Coast/West Coast beef and the reason he feels both BIG and Pac were assassinated.

Treach Tells The Truth ‘They’ Tried To Hide From Him About His Homie 2Pac’s Assassination (Video)

Holy sh!t. This went exactly NOT as Vlad expected, but exactly the way it needed to. Bet money that the hit count on this episode goes nowhere near a million. Mumble rap and booty shake, yes, multimillion views. The truth in tell-it-like-it-is vids like this, HELL NO! But that ain’t gonna stop me from watching and sharing this Treach (of Naughty By Nature) confessional. You should do the same. I would not mind being wrong on this one!

Treach opened up to VladTV about getting the news that 2Pac was shot in Vegas, which he initially thought wasn’t a big deal. However, as time went on, he couldn’t get through to anyone close to the wounded rapper, and Treach said everyone knew to keep him away from the hospital due to his hot temper.

During the conversation, Treach spoke about how hard it was to record “Mourn You Till I Join You” and his thoughts on 2Pac’s murder being the worst kept secret. Hit the above video to hear what he had to say.

Images Exposing America’s Racism: The Murder Of Emmett Till (Video)

1955. Your parents and/or grandparents REMEMBER this. The killing of Emmett Till happened not even ONE full lifetime ago. Anybody wanting to tell you that revisiting such a ‘distant past’ is divisive, that you should just ‘move on’… well you should. They would have been the same people who would have believed Emmett was ‘flirting’ and that his death was his fault or just a fact of life. The fact is that the loss of Emmett’s life was a TRAGEDY. That a movement found life and strength provides some solace but in no way lessens our sadness and mourning.

Anyone telling you to move on is right. Do it. Move on… AWAY FROM THEM! Anyone telling you that to keep bringing up race, protest or even talk frankly about race-motivated violence against Black Americans that is going on in the same lifetime as the murder of Emmett Till is ‘divisive’… Move on. But remember who they are.

“The irresponsible rhetoric of our President, who has used the pulpit of the presidency to divide us by race and color, has made America a more dangerous environment for everyone.”
Donald Trump

So, The President, a Black American (whose citizenship Trump consistently contested, remember?), even talking about what has happened to Philando Castile, Alton Sterling, Walter L. Scott, Tamir Rice, Eric Garner or others divides us and makes for a dangerous environment? Hmmm… okay… Glad the cameras caught that tidbit in the midst of your nomination acceptance speech.

Yeah. I heard you RNC. I heard you, Donald Trump. And I am moving on!

But back to the video above: Watch. Grieve. Get focused. Get motivated. Get moving. Get more informed. And never forget Emmett Till!

Neshoba: The Price of Freedom (Documentary Trailer)

“Neshoba: The Price of Freedom” tells the story of a Mississippi town still divided about the meaning of justice, 40 years after the murders of civil rights workers James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner, an event dramatized in the Oscar-winning film, “Mississippi Burning.” Although Klansmen bragged about what they did in 1964, no one was held accountable until 2005, when the State indicted preacher Edgar Ray Killen, an 80-year-old notorious racist and mastermind of the murders. Through exclusive interviews with Killen, intimate interviews with the victims’ families, and candid interviews with Black and White Neshoba County citizens still struggling with their town’s violent past, the film explores whether the prosecution of one unrepentant Klansman constitutes justice and whether healing and reconciliation are possible without telling the unvarnished truth.

Comptons Most Wanted MC Eiht knows and lets the words flow freely about Suge Knight – success as a rap mogul to current hit-and-run and murder charges he faces. His views on what caused the downfall of Tha Row’s capo…

‘The Daily Show’ Host Trevor Noah Makes Fun Of His Very Serious Emergency Room Experience (Video)

So, the host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, Trevor Noah, had to have an emergency appendectomy just days ago. See his comical recount of what was a f#cked up emergency room experience. Besides the ‘waiting room’ shot, this was my fav quip from the above clip: Asked for more info to fill out endless forms while in excruciating (near blackout) pain, Trevor responds,

“What more information do you need, other than the fact that I’m dying?”

Ever a political hot topic in the U.S., many always bring up the fact the MANY nations abroad provide free/better healthcare than America’s. But you may have wondered if folks from other countries say U.S. healthcare is better somehow. Well, let’s hear from someone who has now experienced both.

Play the clip. Laugh through the pain. Welcome back, Noah. Get better soon.

NatGeo Delves Deeply Into Tupac’s Murder Investigation As Part Of It’s ‘Last Great Decade’ Series (Video)

If you were around then, you feel our anguish now. Twenty years later… and the investigation into the murder of one of Hip-Hop’s most revered… has gotten NOWHERE?? Well, at least the death of Tupac Shakur stays on the front burner for a while longer; part of National Geographic’s three-night documentary mini-series “The ’90s: The Last Great Decade?” Talk show host and actor Arsenio Hall, music video director Gobi Rahimi and rapper MC E.D.I. Mean (of the Outlawz) all in there speaking truth that hurts regarding the lack of progress in the case and the hunt for the people responsible for Tupac’s death. Too high a profile for ‘Pac (or B.I.G.) for us to have zilch after all this time.

“I believe…that if Justin Bieber had gotten shot in Tupac’s car…we’d know more.”
Arsenio Hall

The NatGeo series starts on July 6, 2014. Watch. Discuss.

VICE: Corruption, Cocaine, & Murder in Trinidad (Video)

VICE News visited the slums of Port of Spain and spoke with police, activists, community leaders, and gangsters to understand the country’s decade-plus spike in killings [more than tripling over the past 15 years]. Many of the murders are attributed to ruthless and politically connected street gangs who control territories that are sometimes no larger than a city block. The gangs fight over lucrative government contracts meant to provide social services and combat unemployment.

But gang violence is just where the problems start. Trinidad has become an important stop for drugs headed to West Africa and the United States. The “big fish” keeping and growing the country into a mega narco-state — the political and business elite.
