Filmmaker And Tech Enthusiast Pete Majarich Gives Us A Look At The ‘Surface Of Mars’… From Utah (Short Film)

Uh ohhh. Elon Musk, we have a problem.

There are still moon-landing deniers around who claim that all that video of that American space trip was faked. And this short film “The Visitor” (by Australian filmmaker Pete Majarich) is an even more appealing, amazing, look at a trip to what looks to be a ‘red’ planet.

This was shot in a southern Utah desert. Confirmed (hit the jump and see). So, if we make the Mars trip… proving it… could be a problem!

(But this is a cool tech-driven flick though. No problem with that.)

This ‘Dr. Frankenstein’ Mechanic Salvages Tesla Cars Doomed To Go To The Scrapheap (Video)

Hmm. A great example of how a craft or hobby can be expressed in the form of activism. We might more readily think of print, TV, or music content creators as activists before a Tesla fix-it guy. But peep. Rich has a mission and a message; putting both out there at great risk. Watch.

Rich is a car enthusiast whose passion is to find wrecked Teslas, bring them back to life, and then share his repair adventures on his YouTube channel Rich Rebuilds.

When he found out that Tesla would not service or support his salvaged cars, he took it upon himself to scour the internet and harvest working parts from several busted Teslas. He Frankensteined them together until his creations were fully operational, at a fraction of what it would cost to buy a new or certified pre-owned Tesla.

Motherboard travels to Massachusetts to meet with the rogue mechanic leading a grassroots movement of DIY fixers who are taking back the right to repair the things they own.

Antoine Fuqua, Director Of “Equalizer 2,” Gives Filmmaking Tips (Video)

Lean in and listen, whether you are really interested in making your own movies or not. Gotta be good, cooked food for thought. Think about it: Denzel Washington does not do sequels… at least not until “Equalizer 2.” Wisdom for the guy who moved Denzel to move us (in a sequel, no less)!

Watch the 30-minute interview for “The Equalizer” (the predecessor) in 2014 from a good while back. Still good advice. And dope. And what’s truly dope NEVER goes stale.

Ha! A DIY project to make a kooky kind of cool thing. Can you ride out on one wheel? Sure you can! Watch and see how YOU can.

Now… if you do build one of these to ride, do NOT brake too hard. They call that ‘gerbiling’… and the fun stops for you (though onlookers might get a laugh or seven out of your wipeout).

Australian Couple Living Totally Off The Grid (Video)

I stay amazed at what folks are doing with tiny house and Earthship living projects. This couple has maxed the off-the-grid tiny house concept for reals though. Check it out!

This tiny house is ready for anything! Completely off the grid, this tiny home on wheels generates its own solar power, collects rainwater, uses solar water heating and even generates it’s own biogas for cooking.

Paul and Annett had been living the city life, in an apartment in Sydney, Australia. A desire to lower their impact on the earth and live closer to nature led them to designing and building their own eco-friendly tiny house powered by renewable energies and moving onto a remote property outside of Byron Bay.

Mark Ronson Speaks On How Sampling Transformed Music (Video)

Okay, grant me a late pass on this one, but this a dope TED Talk on sampling and the evolution of modern music. Presented by Mark Ronson.

Sampling isn’t about “hijacking nostalgia wholesale,” says Mark Ronson. It’s about inserting yourself into the narrative of a song while also pushing that story forward. Watch the DJ scramble 15 TED Talks into an audio-visual omelette, and trace the evolution of “La Di Da Di,” Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick’s 1984 hit that has been reimagined for every generation since.

Matt Maxey Brings Hip-Hop To The Hearing Impaired Using Sign Language (Video)

Alright, aaaalright. Get past the use of “Deaf Jam” as the title. This is actually a really cool story. Side note: Gotta be something to the whole Chance The Rapper being associated with stories that matter to the Hip-Hop Nation. Just an observation.

Although he’s had profound hearing loss his entire life, Matt Maxey didn’t learn to sign until he was 18 years old. He began to practice his ASL by signing along to the lyrics of his favorite artists and uploading videos to YouTube. Now, as the CEO and founder of DEAFinitely Dope, he’s translating hip-hop music alongside artists like Chance the Rapper and D.R.A.M.

Imagine A 600-Square-Foot Mansion. Look At This Tiny House (Video)

Japan’s Horinouchi House makes 600 square feet seem like a bona fide mansion.
– Digital Trends

I guess I’m weird when it comes to the desire for a big house and the acres… I actually have flights of fantasy about a tiny home; maybe on a big plot of land, but big being like an acre or less. Plus, I’d rather have one really good toilet in my tiny mansion than four mediocre ones in a big ‘un.

(Too much? Yes? Maybe?)

But check this dream house (in my mind) out. Dope!
