The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution (Documentary)
Found it! Right where it was supposed to be, at the PBS website. Guess other sources jumped the gun on putting it up and their videos got pulled down (delaying our sharing it with you here until now). Can’t blame them though: Viewers who missed the Public Television debut really likely really wanted to see this. Even some of those who caught it before probably wanted to see it again. Well, here it is “The Black Panthers: Vanguard of The Revolution.” Click play above; enjoy and be enriched and empowered. All Power To The People!
Directed by Stanley Nelson, this episode (and the above video embed) will be available from PBS online for watching until March 18, 2016.
Bastille Day (International Trailer)
Consider this a too Black, too strong ‘F#CK YOU’ to the Bond movie machinery that said ‘hell no’ to Idris Elba when he was up for the leading man role. We’ve been knowing dude could deliver big time super agent action. Ain’t the movie biz funny though? Instead of letting Brit Elba do a Brit fiction, we get him as a CIA operative (read: American) in France on a mission in “Bastille Day.”
Wow.
Too Black For Brazil (Documentary)
Color bias… you know, the light skin vs. dark skin thing… it’s EVERYWHERE! In Brazil though, to seemingly a greater extent than elsewhere, the darker-skinned people play into the preference toward lighter skin. The preference is persistent in the culture even today. And just when some Brazilians thought the people were ready to take a huge step forward, they took a big step back; kicked the throne from under their lovely carnival queen down in the process.
Nayara Justino thought her dreams had come true when she was selected as the Globeleza carnival queen in 2013 after a public vote on one of Brazil’s biggest TV shows. But some regarded her complexion to be too dark to be an acceptable queen. Nayara and her family wonder what this says about racial roles in modern Brazil.
Damn. Watch the documentary above.
Batman v. Superman: Dawn Of Justice (Final Trailer)
Know how when you want something really REALLY bad, and it’s kept from you by folks teasing you with it constantly, and your excitement builds to explosive levels and gets vented as frustration? No? Maybe? Yeah, you do. Do you think with ALL THE DAMN trailers DC is dropping for “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” that we’re getting like that?
Yeah, you do.
We are there! So, DC, knock it off with all the teaser trailers. Really. How many is enough? Oh… this is the final one? Well, it BETTER be good (don’t worry it is)!
Mac Miller: Stopped Making Excuses (Documentary)
Deep. Never had any problem with Pittsburgh emcee Mac Miller. Some did. And according to this documentary, dude had major problems with himself. Critics were hitting Miller hard in his pride since he was 19. Still he pressed on, got his his 2011 debut album pressed and independently released, and kept the pressure on until it hit #1 on Billboard. But then he moved to Los Angeles… and hit a sharp downward spiral into drug abuse. Talk about PROBLEMS! But, of course, Miller found his way through (and lived to tell the story above).
I’d rather be the corny white rapper than the drugged-out mess that can’t even get out of his house. You don’t go down in history because you overdosed.
Real sh!t. See what he went through, and how he made it through, in the documentary “Mac Miller: Stopped Making Excuses.”
The Black Panthers: Vanguard of The Revolution (Trailer)
Depending on where you are on the social-political-cultural-racial spectrum, viewing this will make you feel engaged, enlightened, enraged, sad and frightened. Actually, you will feel all those things no matter who you are watching this. It’s just a matter of who you’ll feel them about and in what order you’ll experience the emotions. What could the trailer above be teasing that is that powerful?
New film by acclaimed documentarian Stanley Nelson about the rise and fall of the Black Panther Party.
That’s right. Not the “Captain America: Civil War” character… These revolutionary men and women were way stronger. Too Black, too strong; which is why the government brought its full weight against them. There’s your damn (un)Civil War. Check out the trailer for “The Black Panthers: Vanguard of The Revolution” (coming soon).

‘Where To Invade Next’…How About Italy? (Movie Teaser)
So, we posted the “Where To Invade Next” trailer already. But check out this one on the coming soon Michael Moore film…all about Italy. Fair warning: At first, if you are in America with us, you are gonna hate a bit. But then maybe, just maybe, you will think, “Hey, they’re onto something over there.”
Miles Ahead (Trailer)
Nah…just woke up Black…knew how to play…
– Miles Davis
Wow! Everything you heard, and thought you knew, about Miles Davis the jazz (sorry, ‘social music’) great and then some. We have been posting and salivating about this project on here. Now here’s the theatrical trailer. Go, Don Cheadle. GO!
“Miles Ahead” is a wildly entertaining and moving exploration of one of 20th century music’s creative geniuses, Miles Davis, featuring a career defining performance by Oscar nominee Don Cheadle in the title role. Working from a script he co-wrote with Steven Baigelman, Cheadle’s bravura directorial debut is not a conventional bio-pic but rather a unique, no-holds barred portrait of a singular artist in crisis.
Hell Train: A Gasface Gangsta Fairytale (Video)
Score! Got the trailer above and ALL seven parts of the “Hell Train” series after the jump. Bodega BAMZ brought us all kinds of gritty (with “Shook Ones” as the intro soundtrack choice, what else could it be?) with this one. It’s like a docu-drama on steroids…looking to score cocaine.
(Props to ARTE Creative for putting all the eps in one place.)
Suicide Squad (Official Trailer)
We’re bad guys. It’s what we do!
DC is officially going at theater screens harder than ever. Proof positive of that above with this second trailer dropped for “Suicide Squad” (the one we posted from Comic Con was the first look; and this is the Official one). You gotta watch the whole thing… which won’t be a problem, because “Bohemian Rhapsody” music will hold you captive all the way through the crazy guitar break (when, of course, sh!t in the clip goes CRAZY, too)! This is going to be the sickest bestest anti-hero comic hero movie… maybe ever. Wow.
(Will Smith as Deadshot. Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn…work that ‘bat’ girl. And Jared Leto doing Joker incredibly. Yeah, get the tickets August 5, 2016!)
50 Cent – “I’m The Man” feat. Sonny Digital (Short Film)
So, once you go all Showtime with a series, you gotta move the music videos over a bit to incorporate some major music cinema in there. Step your game up by stepping what’s in your frame up. Got it 50. Got it! Y’all check out this short film (NOT just a video) for “I’m The Man” (featuring Sonny Digital, off “The Kanan Tape” linked below).
Recognize that Eif Rivera is still in the video game wif Fif. All this violence and intrigue (mixed in with heavy doses of dime pieces) kinda makes us wish that “Power” would hurry up and come back on Showtime.
(Scratch that. Ain’t no “kinda” about it. Hurry up with that 50!)

David Bowie And The Story Of Ziggy Stardust (Documentary)
Man. Rest In Power to rock legend David Robert Jones pka David Bowie. We are going to be sad for a bit, knowing that the guy who brought such surreal music and mania to the music world since the 1970s will no longer be here with us.
But his music (and film) work…they will live forever here on this plane with us. Speaking of films, check out this documentary from BBC; detailing the early times of David Bowie and Ziggy Stardust.
‘Straight Outta Compton’ Done GTA Style (Video)
The song is a classic. The movie was great look. An experience. But you gotta experience “Straight Outta Compton†this way. DOPE!
NWA’s “Straight Outta Compton†re-imagined inside the world of Grand Theft Auto.
Oh yeah…see you in The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame 2016 #NWA
A-F-R-O Is “Hip-Hop’s Raider of the Lost Art” (Mini-Documentary)
You hear that??? Dude said he wants to “Save someone’s LIFE through the music!”
Now, we hold up Joey Bada$$, Cole, Kendrick, A$AP Rocky, Chris Rivers, and several others as the embodiment of the modern “real emcee” archetype for the 21st century. But wait. Let me add another to your list: A-F-R-O (born James Gutierrez). Watch his compelling story and point of view in the above documentary vignette on the young emcee; entitled “Hip-Hop’s Raider of the Lost Art.”
Bonus: A-F-R-O has acting chops, too. Tonight, you can see him flex those muscles in “The Breaks” – a VH1 original production. Peep the trailer after the jump.

Independence Day: Resurgence (Trailer)
Will Smith doesn’t appear in the sequel to the 1996 original “Independence Day” film that officially launched his career as an action hero, but director Roland Emmerich brings back Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum & adds Liam Hemsworth to pick up the slack 20 years later. Will the sequel be better than the original without the Fresh Prince? We’ll see this Summer on June 24th, 2016…..about 2 weeks before Independence Day.
“We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global spectacle on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.”

Star Trek Beyond (Trailer)
This Summer, once again, seems like it’s going to be a good one with the slate of big budget films scheduled to be released in 2016. The 3rd sequel to the latest Star Trek films continue to go where no man has gone before with “Star Trek Beyond” due to hit the theaters this summer on July 22nd with actor Idris Elba supposedly playing the villain role in this one. There shouldn’t be anyway for director Justin Lin to “Sabotage” this one. Word to the Beastie Boys
