DJ Rasta Root – Special ‘J Dilla’ Tribute Mix on DASH Radio Today 5pm EST / 2pm PST
DASH Radio is going to be as huge as Sirius satellite radio if not even bigger in the near future due to their enormous new deal with AT&T to provide their service in cars. There’s many great internet radio stations on the web, but the game changer is being able to get those stations in people’s cars where they can use it as effortlessly as turning on a terrestrial radio station. Unlike satellite radio which is a paid subscription service, Dash Radio is free & you can even download their app to listen to a variety of the stations they have via your mobile app. Make sure you check out our homie DJ Rasta Root who will be on DASH Radio’s ‘Native Rhymes’ channel from 5pm EST / 2pm PST today with a special tribute to the legendary ‘J Dilla’.

Straight Outta Compton (Trailer)
I can’t wait until this movie drops on August 14th… Buckle Up!
“In the mid-1980s, the streets of Compton, California, were some of the most dangerous in the country. When five young men translated their experiences growing up into brutally honest music that rebelled against abusive authority, they gave an explosive voice to a silenced generation. Following the meteoric rise and fall of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton tells the astonishing story of how these youngsters revolutionized music and pop culture forever the moment they told the world the truth about life in the hood and ignited a cultural war.
Starring O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E, Straight Outta Compton is directed by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off, The Italian Job). The drama is produced by original N.W.A. members Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, who are joined by fellow producers Matt Alvarez and Tomica Woods-Wright. Will Packer serves as executive producer of the film alongside Gray.” – StraightOuttaCompton

Hidden Colors 4: The Religion of White Supremacy (Trailer)
Well when it comes to movies or documentaries about Black History a majority of them deal with the same Civil Rights struggle or blacks in slavery stories. Â Both are part of Black history but not the only story and the Hidden Colors documentary series has done a great job covering information/history. Â The first three have been critically acclaimed with subtitles like “The Triumph of Melanin” & “The Rules of Racism” with the latest installment titled “The Religion of White Supremacy” that should be released later this year. Â Tariq Nasheed the creator & director of the Hidden Colors series has already confirmed speakers like Dr. Umar Johnson, Dr. Francis Cress Welding & Phil Valentine who have all participated in the first three. Â He has promise some new speakers with this upcoming edition. Â If you watched Hidden Colors three you saw how he surprised us by having the rappers Nas & David Banner discussing Racism. Â Who know he might have them back and other surprise rappers. Â Here is a link to a kickstarter that he has for the funding of volume 4 Click Here.
CyHi The Prynce – “Forever” (Prod. Tec Beatz x Brandon Black)
It is February, Black History Month, and like last year CyHi The Prynce is releasing another “Black Hystori” mixtape. Â The production is done by Tec Beatz , Brandon Black & Jeff Leahr. Â CyHi has been consistent with releasing good music & it looks like he is continuing that trend.

Phife Dawg, of the legendary ‘A Tribe Called Quest’ performed a solo set during halftime last Friday night as a part of the Toronto Raptors’ 20th Anniversary celebrations inside Air Canada Centre. Backed by DJ Rasta Root on the 1s & 2s & as hype man, the five-foot assassin launched into a medley of classic ATCQ hits such as ‘Buggin Out’, ‘Oh My God’, ‘Can I Kick It?’, ‘Check The Rhime’, & ‘Award Tour’.
Tinashe – “Aquarius” (Video)
Everyone should already know Aries run things & is the best sign of the Zodiac, but we’ll give it to the cutie Tinashe with the dope title track to her new album ‘Aquarius.’ Â I’ve been digging a number of songs from her album recently including that ‘Bet’ joint that stays on repeat in my itunes. Peep the new visuals for the new single ‘Aquarius’ above that the 22-year-old Aquarian directed herself….
Common ‘Keeps It 100’ on Black Women & Fatherhood on ‘The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore’ (Video)
Common recently appeared on the panel revolving around Black Fatherhood on ‘The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore’ that airs on Comedy Central. New York Times columnist Charles Blow, founder of the Center for URban Families Joe Jones and comedian Mike Yard also take part in this discussion that began with the simple statement that ’72 percent of black children are born to unwed mothers.’
Although they tackle serious issues in this discussion, things get hilariously uncomfortable fast as Larry poses questions about whether they’d play in the Super Bowl instead of witnessing the birth of their first child & their opinions on whether or not black women are too domineering in relationships. Check out more video from the discussion below……
Jarren Benton – “Diamonds & Fur” feat. Rock City (Video)
One of Atlanta’s illest double threats as a lyricist AND producer, Jarren Benton, drops a new video for ‘Diamonds & Fur’ off of his latest project ‘Slow Motion’ dedicated to his former manager & homie that had passed on unexpectedly. The Atlanta based-Caribbean rude bwoys Rock City also bridge with the Decatur representer on this new single as well.

After a moment Ghostface stopped the show & called out the heckler & challenged him to step on stage if he had an issue. Before that could even happen the true Wu-Tang fans took matters into their own hands & beat the dude down. Yes indeed…proving Wu-Tang fans ain’t nuthin To F*$k with!

Action Bronson – ‘Big League Chew’ (Prod. By Alchemist)
Action Bronson drops a brand new gem called ‘Big League Chew’ produced by one of my all-time favorite producers…. Alchemist. It could be that I’m such a huge fan of Alchemist’s work that my mind keeps telling me I’ve heard this track before. Chances are I’m not the only Alchemist fan who probably has. It’s still all good because Action Bronson did his thing to own it lyrically.
Snoop Dogg’s Son ‘Cordell Broadus’ Will Begin His College Career As A Wide Receiver For UCLA (Video)
Snoop Dog’s son Cordell Broadus was one of the top high school prospects in the country before he made his decision to play for UCLA as a wide receiver. Cordell won’t be the only son of a hip hop industry veteran playing under head coach Jim Mora as P Diddy’s son Justin Combs is also playing over at UCLA as a defensive back. Snoop Dogg appeared on ESPN’s First Take & also added his opinion that rap artists should speak to the young guys coming into the NFL & NBA to help keep them out of trouble.
yU – “Homicide” (Prod. By Nottz)
This joint is a straight up banger! Been playing it on my radio show ever since it dropped. He’s 1/2 of the 1978ers, 1/3 of the critically acclaimed group Diamond District, D.C. lyricist “yU” links up with arguably one of Virginia’s illest producer Nottz! Whenever I see Nottz’ name on something I know he’s going to be killin’ it with the boom-blappers! yU does the damn thing with the appropriate subject matter & A+ lyricism to match the track as well. This joint is straight MURDA! But in a good way. Be on the lookout for Mellow Music Group’s upcoming compilation that this song appears on called “Persona” due March 10th. If you missed the Oddisee & Phonte collaboration called ‘Requiem’ we posted a few days ago, it will be on that same MMG compilation due March 10th as well.

Behind-The-Scenes: DJ Premier Rehearsing With His New Band (Video)
Check out this video of DJ Premier’s newly formed Live Band rehearsing out in ‘the land of the rising sun.’ Konichiwa from Japan for those of y’all that don’t know. Preemo doesn’t have a name for the band as of yet, but he’s expressed on twitter how he wants the fans help in coming up with a good name that doesn’t involve any Gangstarr or DJ Premier references. I think they should use the name ‘Robbin Hood Theory’ but that’s just my 2-cents. Anyway…. Make sure you tweet to him directly at @REALDJPREMIER with #NamePreemosNewBand hastag, or head to www.premierwuzhere.com and/or leave comments below the video posting. Good to see DJ Premier & the crew released this video of them practicing. Most most rap groups & artists these days don’t take pride in their work & got it confused with the Allen Iverson practice theory.
Maino – “MVP”
NBA Allstar Weekend takes place in Brooklyn New York from February 13 to February 15th of this year. Many celebrities, groupies, athletes & fans will be there, but the last few years has shown that when the stars come out so do the goons. Check out this new freestyle from Maino, the self-proclaimed ‘King Of Brooklyn’, over the Gangstarr classic ‘Just To Get A Rep’. I guess people better tuck their chains in next weekend because some things may not have changed in Crooklyn.
R&B: Frank Ocean – “At Your Best” (starRo Remix)
