Kingdoms of Africa: West Africa (Documentary)

Incredible BBC Four documentary presentation. Frames West African history as an arc of time and development with timeless elements that exist in culture today as they did centuries earlier. Among the topics woven into this video are matters and practices regarding faith and worship, royalty and society, engineering and architecture, travel and trade, politics and war, and especially the arts are covered. Right from the start, the importance of the arts (including storytelling and recorded history) and craftsmanship as ways of marking time and linking present to past Africa is established.

In Benin, it seems history isn’t written by the victors. It’s written by the artists.

So much good content. Watch and digest thoroughly. This not just African history… this is world history!

People were using pottery here 8,000 years before it appeared in Great Britain… When West Africans began developing the skills that would eventually create some of the most exquisite art in the world, Europe was just emerging from the last Ice Age.

Science: Long Distance Telepathy? Harvard Has Made It Happen!

Screenshot 2014-09-05 22.21.36

Oh no they didn’t. Well… apparently they did. Talk about being in somebody’s business. Harvard scientists had people in each others’ heads… thousands of miles apart!

Scientists have sent a mental message from one person to another 4,000 miles away in the world’s first successful telepathy experiment. They connected one person in India to a sensitive headset linked to the internet and another to a similar device in Paris. When the first person thought of a simple greeting like “Hello”, the recipient in France was aware of the thought. The subject receiving the message could not see the word itself but could correctly report flashes of light in peripheral vision that corresponded to the exact moment the word “Hello” was thought.

The ground-breaking experiment, after 10 years’ work on the subject, was carried out by a team lead by scientists from America’s Harvard University.

Science: Drexel’s Ken Lacovara Discovers Your Dino-Nightmare – Dreadnoughtus Schrani (Video)

In the near Antarctic region of the world, a mega-megaton creature with no fear or reason to fear anyone in its path. Not just because of its massive size and musculature (think: 13 bull elephants smashed into one creature) …but also because of its weaponized tail! Cyclops to Professor X: I think we have found the Savage Land. Brace yourself, people, we’re going in!

Drexel University professor Ken Lacovara has recently unveiled a new supermassive dinosaur species he discovered and unearthed with his team between 2005 and 2009. Weighing in at nearly 65 tons, Dreadnoughtus schrani is the largest land animal ever found of calculable mass and also by far one of the most complete skeletons ever found for a dinosaur in this mass range!

And…Dreadnoughtus schrani (translation: “fears nothing”) is a herbivore? WTF did they put in the veggies back then?? DAMN!

Raekwon – ‘Close To You’

Raekwon continues his ‘Throwback Thursday’ assault over classic R&B joints from back in the day. This time around the Wu-Tang lyricist decides to take it back to the 80s & get ‘Close To You’ on this Gwen Guthrie joint. It’s an interesting choice for ‘the Chef’ to flip his lyrical finesse over, but I think Rae should have utilized her 1986 ‘get off your ass’ controversial classic “Ain’t Nothing Going On But The Rent”. It’s all good…. just another appetizer before Raekwon’s upcoming ‘F.I.L.A.’ project on the way.

FKA twigs – “Hide” (Video)

For New Year’s Eve 2013, Young Turks threw a special party in Tulum, Mexico. Here, FKA twigs performs Hide amidst Mayan ruins.

Okay, so at one point in the recent GGN interview we posted (here) Snoop asked T-Pain about three artists he could not live without. Snoop has been on some Sade *ish, wanting to collab with the sizzling songstress for a while now… but Pain hit Snoop in the head with his first choice out the gate: FKA twigs. And they both went on tirade touting her; Pain even saying he’s worked with her (that she brought him back into music). Wow. Is it her music? Is it her look? Her presence?

Answer: YES!

Check this latest “Hide” performance video from producer/singer/songwriter FKA twigs out. Will leave your mouth hanging wide open. Well, it left me floored. ‘xscuse me for not knowing, FKA twigs.

And perhaps to get you further ‘open’… check out her concept video for “Hide” from a couple years back after the jump. WOW!

We’ve been banging this new ‘187’ single produced by Lil Fame on the Beatz & Lyrics radio show, but now we have the new visuals to accompany the new banger featuring a brief cameo from Treach of Naughty By Nature, Smif-N-Wessun, & a number of other brothas reppin’ those Brooklyn blocks.

Be on the lookout for Billy Danziene & Lil Fame’s upcoming project “Street Certified” executive produced by DJ Premier that’s dropping October 31st.   Just in time for Halloween…..Now ‘Ante Up’ suckaz!!!
