PBS Frontline: Two American Families (Documentary)

Watch Two American Families on PBS. See more from FRONTLINE.

I love PBS! Engaging, thought-provoking viewing. I’ve been a fan of Bill Moyers for some time now, and he has reaffirmed my faith in him as a social issues commentator this episode of Frontline.

‘Since 1992, Bill Moyers has been following the story of two ordinary, hard-working families in Milwaukee — one black, one white — as they battle to keep from sliding into poverty. A remarkable portrait of perseverance, Two American Families raises unsettling questions about the changing nature of the U.S. economy and the fate of a declining middle class.’

ESPN First Take: Nelly Accurately Explains Why Dwight Howard Left The Los Angeles Lakers (Video)

St. Louis rapper Nelly appeared on ESPN’s First Take with Stephen A Smith & Skip Bayless hours ago & he was on point with his analysis of a few topics discussed on the show. I watched the show live & found Nelly to be spot on about his analysis of why Major League Baseball is falling off as well as why more African-Americans are not gravitating to the game. The most explosive debate occurred when the topic of discussion turned to the reason Dwight Howard left the Los Angeles Lakers. If you follow me on twitter then you will know that I’ve addressed the elephant in the room involving Kobe Bryant for a while now. Although I don’t have a national platform like ESPN to express my opinion, it was a pleasant surprise to see someone like Nelly not play the political correctness game that most of these journalists do by just being very direct about what’s REALLY going on. The bottom-line is that although most of these NBA players respect Kobe’s talent, a larger number of them do not want to play with Kobe. I’ve spoken with a number of NBA players who’ve said similar things off the record. Nelly was spot on with his analysis regarding Dwight Howard but with him actually being friends of the Houston Rockets’ new center I’m sure to a lesser degree he may have indirectly spoken for him.

Snoop Dogg x Method Man x Erick Sermon – “Let Me Explain” feat. RL (Video)

Snoop, Erick Sermon, and Method Man did a title/theme track for Kevin Hart’s new movie “Let Me Explain.” Guest vocals by RL. There’s a video for it, too (above).

“When Big Bob Francis of Artist Live brought the opportunity to me he emphasized the importance and influence that Kevin Hart has on not only the Hip Hop culture but the general market as well. Kevin is a major driver of cool-funny-real life conversation. He embodies all of the elements needed to engage consumers of both comedy and music content, combining the 2 is the culture and lifestyle of his fan audience. We knew Kevin could sell both. I wanted to create a tribute-reunion of the sort for and between him, Snoop and Method Man as they all worked on Kevin’s movie Soul Plane, that critics downed. The movie was actually dope and funny as hell. They were wrong about Kevin Hart, look who’s laughing now!!!”

A Spike Lee Joint: “OldBoy” (Explicit Red Band Trailer)

‘Nothing is more twisted than the truth.’

True indeed. And nothing, in recent times, is more twisted than this movie from Spike Lee. His version of “OldBoy” is an interpretation of the original Korean flick by the same name. Here’s a Wikipedia passage on it:

‘The film follows the story of one Oh Dae-su, who is locked in a hotel room for 15 years without knowing his captor’s motives. When he is finally released, Dae-su finds himself still trapped in a web of conspiracy and violence. His own quest for vengeance becomes tied in with romance when he falls for an attractive sushi chef.’

The core of the story was maintained in the Spike Lee joint, with Josh Brolin as the imprisoned lead. So was the gore (the trailer hints at some of it). Yeah. Spike went there with this one.

Starring: Josh Brolin, Samuel L. Jackson, Elizabeth Olsen (twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s younger sister), James Ransone (from Spike’s “Red Hook Summer”), Sharlto Copley (the dude that played ‘Murdock’ in the “A-Team” movie).

Black People Don’t Do: Atheism (Video)

From the ancient times, through slavery and the struggle for civil rights, and into modern times… worship and religiosity has been woven into the fabric of Black life worldwide. Questions like these are what the National Black Programming Consortium (NBPC) clip above poses… among others.
