The internet & the world moves fast, but Cooking Soul tends to make sure quality is never sacrificed in crafting these types of gems. R.I.P. Gil Scott-Heron…..
Remembering JAX: Phife Dawg, DJ Rasta Root & Jax In Japan 2003 (Video)
Rest in Peace to one of my favorite artists based out of Atlanta & good friend JAX. The homie DJ Rasta Root recently uncovered some footage from 2003 on their tour with Phife Dawg to Japan….
“In 2003, Jax, Phife and I travelled to Japan for the ‘Smokin Needles Japan Tour. It was a pleasure going over there with Jax and seeing how excited he was to be in Japan. All he kept saying was, ‘I’m in Japan’. Almost like trying to tell himself over and over that it was true. With the hardships of being on tour, early flights..lost luggage and occasional language barriers, none of that seemed to matter while Jax was around..he made jokes out of everything, and kept the tour fun and light. I miss him dearly, and count myself blessed to have crossed his path.”
Thank you Jax Forever King.

Classic Clips: Biggie Throws Water Bottle At Big Kap During Summer Jam Show In California (Video)
From Fader Magazine’s Icon Issue featuring Biggie:
“I’m throwing the records and it’s like, alright, cool we’re going through it. But it’s so hot the heat is actually warping the records. The records is melting! So the records are warping right before me and it’s just like woooommp. And Big looking at me. We had this thing like, every time you make a mistake on stage during the show, you get fined $100. So during the show, Big heard the first womp, and he was like “A hundred dollars!†The record is crumbling up right before my eyes. Then it’s getting bad and Cease is like, “Two hundred dollars!†And then Big, he just stopped everything and was like, “Yo! What the fuck is going on?!†I’m looking and my records look like a piece of bacon back there. Big is tight! He had a water bottle, he threw the water bottle at me, and just walks off the stage” – Big Kap

Prodigy Book Signing At Howard University In Washington, D.C. (Video)
Prodigy made his way to Howard University in Washington D.C. promoting his new book ‘My Infamous Life’. I’ve been procrastinating on picking it up myself but I heard the book is a good read & hard to put down. From many of the excerpts I’ve been reading I believe the positive reviews maybe accurate. I know I should be about to go to itunes & download it, but I’d rather have a hard copy of it. Hopefully someone in his camp will send me an autographed copy addressed to me. Hint. Hint. Hint. One particular excerpt that I had read online about the time Prodigy first met Jadakiss had me laughing out loud. I was gonna pick up my copy over the weekend but haven’t gotten around to it as of yet. If you’re like me then it’s time we cop that joint….

Classic Clips: Bob Marley Interview In Atlanta December 1979 (Video)
Back in 1979 Bob Marley was in Atlanta for a show at the iconic Fox Theatre on Peachtree Street. Gary Anderson ( Yeah…I don’t know who he is either) is stiff as hell in this interview. Most likely because he couldn’t understand a word Bob was saying. Haaahaa! It’s still a classic clip in Atlanta history & Bob Marley continues to drop some knowledge for the people. In the second segment of the interview, the interviewer didn’t really overstand when Bob Marley said he wasn’t trying to reach strange people, but reach OUR people. It wasn’t anything coded or meant solely for black people. OUR people means anyone who is on the same path of righteousness regardless of race. At the end of the segment the interviewer shakes Bob Marley’s hand & then wipes his hand like George Bush meeting Haitian earthquake victims. Check out part 2 under the hood…..
Rare Footage Of Tupac Photoshoot For The ‘Makaveli’ Album (Video)
It seems like everyday there’s some rare footage of Tupac popping up on the web. Check out this newly released footage of Tupac during a photoshoot for his ‘Makaveli’ album. Oddly enough this particular photoshoot seemed kinda suspect to me with the photographer’s assistant moving the jewelry around Pac’s private area in the bathtub. If I was ‘Pac I wouldn’t have agreed to this bathtub shot. Fugazi. But then again who am I to criticize….I’m not a hip hop legend.
