I will admit to turning a ‘side eye’ to Hip-Hop dance brought into a ballet milieu. Though I was not mad like the why-are-THOSE-PEOPLE-invading-our-artful-dance ballet purists. I was mad like F##K-their-fancy-shmancy-dancy-sh!t, we got our OWN legit dance practiced by the WORLDWIDE Hip-Hop Nation!
But seeing this helped me realize that whatever we do that aspires to LOVE, PEACE, UNITY, and HAVING FUN (word to Africa Bambatta and Soul Brother #1 Mr. James Brown) is a good thing.
A man of color forges a new art form that allows anyone to be down; first and foremost the have-nots and those previously left out. That art form grows, gets embraced by those for whom it was meant and is spread to, through and by everyone who enjoys it. Sound like a familiar story? This IS Hip-Hop showing its essence in another form, no less true. And it is beautiful.
So are the ladies doing it in the above mini-documentary. Wowee-wow-WOW. I love these HIPS… I mean Hiplet dancers!

The folks behind the latest King Kong movie declare they are doing their adaptation in a way different way than the way the story has been brought to screen historically… the way this docu-short makes clear. The math on the story of King Kong to date, King Kong’s Story = The Tragic History Of The Slave Trade.

Careful watching this one in [culturally] mixed company. True, the revelations in this expose clip won’t be so much so to Black people contentwise. Rather, we’re more surprised that someone actually ‘said it aloud for everyone to hear.’ But for any who end up screen-gazing in wide-mouthed astonishment – that someone could draw such distinct parallels between the Kong story and the history of the African slave trade – is it really THAT hard to make the connection?

Peep game… Soon enough, Charles Oakley is gonna be ‘holding court’ in the kitchen! And it’s looking like opponents won’t wanna mess with him there either. Haaa!
No ‘rough stuff’ per se. And the above video is just a rough cut for an old trailer that hints at what is to come. Who new Oak – the former NBA bruiser baller turned courtside cusser – had such flair, debonair (shooting his shot at the Honey next to him) and skills with the whisk and grill? Oh, and in case you were wondering why Oakley would want to cook instead of hire someone for that…
A lot of people don’t like to cook it the way you asked. You have it on the menu, and you say you want it one way, but a lot of chefs do it the way they want to do it. They get it wrong. I’m not mad at them, but when you wait 20, 30 minutes and it’s not right, a lot of times that’s disrespectful to me. When I cook, 95% of the time I know my food is gonna come out great.

For now, the title of the series being pitched is “Oak In The Kitchen,” and scenes for a demo reel to show to networks were filmed over the summer at the New Jersey home of Golden Era emcee Masta Ace and his wife (Leschea). All that throwback flavor involved for a potential cooking show. Nice! Hope it ‘pans’ out (grrrroan).

I’m from Tuskegee y’all. I swear to you this trailer give me the feels like this movie will have elements of the infamous Syphilis Study that took place there. Injustice, incredulity, and infighting (though apparently not enough) left those Black men with no care and no hope; even when they had no real knowledge of their plight… until it was too late. I am really hoping for a happier ending here.
Science took her cells. Her family reclaimed her story.
Oprah Winfrey and Rose Byrne star in this adaptation of the critically-acclaimed book. HBO Films presents The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks Saturday, April 22 at 8pm on HBO.

Out Cold: How Long Does It Take To Get Frostbite? (Video)

So wind chill DOES matter. For real! All these years, since bus stop forecasts on the evening news weather reports to just now, I was thinking that wind chill was just a matter of comfort; how long you could ‘chill’ in the wind, so to speak. But naaaaah son, it’s real in the field (AND at the bus stop). It turns out that extreme cold, in concert with wind chill, can freeze uncovered extremities within MINUTES. Introducing… frostbite!
Yeah, I used the word ‘concert’ – but think more ‘lose your fist’ than pumping your fist to ‘Lose Yourself’ if you find yourself in the middle of a windy winter in Detroit without gloves and gear. Just saying.
Frostbite is a serious condition. Cold temperatures can cause the skin and tissue to start freezing, killing the cells. But, wind-chill can drastically change how long you’ll last.

Marvel’s RiRi Williams Delivers On 3.14 (Pi Day 2017) [Video]

Not all heroes wear capes – but some carry tubes (Pi Day 2017)
They don’t make words for how dope this is. Get excited about higher education; esp. about the prospect of attending one of the United States’ most prestigious – M.I.T. They sent out the admissions decision letters on March 14th, or 3.14 (known as Pi Day, for reasons any who have/had any shot of getting into the pinnacle engineering school understand).
And before you non-nerds push a hand up and out and let out a “pssshhhtt, so what?” Recognize the levels of geek-ohol M.I.T. admissions poured into this years batch of Kool-Aid. Dude, Iron Man, dude! Well actually, they put together a 3-minute vignette featuring a Marvel character, an M.I.T. teen prodigy that built her own super suit and subbed for Iron Man when Tony Stark fell ill that time. The character, RiRi Williams (played by MIT student Ayomide F.), picks up a ‘special delivery’ in the video in her Iron Maiden suit. The special delivery?
