Tez McClain x Don Cannon: The Making Of The “Wishing Thinking Vol. 2” Mixtape (Video)

Earlier this evening, Atlanta emcee Tez McClain had his official listening party for the Wishful Thinking Vol. 2 mixtape hosted by Don Cannon at Diddy’s famed Justin’s restaurant here in Atlanta. Great turnout & many familiar faces from the Atlanta music scene were in the place as Tez walked the crowd through various tracks on the mixtape & his thought process going into each joint. Probably my favorite joint I heard played was called “2 Minutes Of Game” which Tez, at one point, stopped the music & spit it acapella for the crowd at Justin’s. Tez McClain’s “Wishful Thinking Vol. II” mixtape is scheduled to drop tomorrow January 24th. For now just check out the track “2 Minutes Of Game” I was telling y’all about & this behind the scenes footage of Tez McClain working with Don Cannon on the joint. This is not their first collab with Gunz but, The Pain was produced by DJ Tedsmooth and his remixes gets spins on the ‘Fire Fridays‘ radio show so nice to finally see some visuals. The Roots – “Life, Love, & Loot”

Inspired by the Captain Morgan commercial campaign of “Life, Love, & Loot”, Philly’s finest The Roots flipped the musical theme of the liquor brand’s primary song into a dope ass joint with a great classic rock feel. Black Thought aka Tariq Trotter kills this joint on the vocals so well it sounds like he may have outdid Lenny Kravitz himself at his own signature vocal style. The song won’t appear on the The Roots upcoming album “undun” due December 6th, but damn this joint is dope even if for a commercial campaign. Snoop Dogg Recording Session For ‘Detox’ with West Coast Producers (Video)

Snoop Dogg gathered some of the West Coast’s greatest producers for a special recording session geared towards Dr. Dre’s upcoming ‘Detox’ album. DJ Quik, Battlecat, 1500 Or Nothing, & DJ Pooh are given a pep talk from Snoop about what kind of heat they need to bring to get Dr. Dre’s attention for the project. This video is really dope because it shows the true friendship among many of Cali’s finest, but it also displays another side of Snoop when it comes to articulating what he wants from a production standpoint. Snoop also makes a great point that if the song doesn’t bang in the first 10 seconds nobody, including Dr. Dre, will like it. I tend to agree with that theory for the most part. The D.O.C. also makes an appearance in the behind the scenes video as well. Part 2 after the jump…

I’m proud to be from Philly & even more proud to see Meek Mill show love to other artists like Freeway, Beanie Sigel, Young Chris & others from Philly who paved the way by having them in his new video “I’m A Boss” which is also being shot by Philly’s own Benny Boom. I can’t wait to see the final product of the video since it appears that they shot alot of it in my old North Philly neighborhood. What’s real is that during the summer it’s not unusual to see cats on the bikes & four-wheelers like this racing across the city. Good feeling to see the unity. It should go without question that Atlanta’s DJ Toomp is a dope producer. Although DJ Toomp reps for the south, he’s crafted so many bangers for so many artists in the game that his sound can’t be defined by any one region. He doesn’t particularly have any one key sound either. One of the reasons Rick Ross has been successful is because he has a solid ear for beats & I’m positive he’s knowledge about key producers in the game like DJ Toomp.
