Affion Crockett On Lopez Tonight (Video)

Affion Crockett’s new show starts next Sunday August 14th on Fox. This brotha is hella funny & we’ve had him on our radio show before not only to discuss comedy, but he’s also a serious hip hop head too. Affion stopped by George Lopez’s late night hotspot to promote but not before giving a few comedic impressions of President Barack Obama, Chris Rock, & Jay-Z. Great to see he’ll be starting his own television show on Fox next Sunday August 14th at 9pm EST so everybody make sure you watch it or set your DVR.

Chris Brown – ‘My Last’ Freestyle (Video)

Chris Brown comes back with a visual freestyle to the ‘My Last’ joint that was released with him & Big Sean. Glad to see the kid changed that hairstyle back to black & rocking the African medallions. That’s wasup! Looks like Chris Brown is getting his stuff together & is pulling it all back together again. One thing that’s hard to ignore is the number of artists who are switching lanes professionally. R&B singers like Ryan Leslie, Chris Brown, & Trey Songz starting to rap now more than sing these days. Actors want to be DJs, DJs want to be rappers, Rappers want to be singers, & singers want to be rappers. I don’t mind it all as long as they study their respective crafts & are good what they do…..

Yvonne Orji Talking About What’s Going On In Her Life And The New Season Of ‘Insecure’ (Video)

Okay, we knew she was funny (and fine AF), but is she ‘opening for Chris Rock‘ funny though? Chris Rock must think so. Shine on then Yvonne!

Lebron James & Kevin Durant Speak On How They Still Feel The Hate As Black Men In America (Video)

Great episode. Great series. Great channel #RollingWithTheChampion #Uninterrupted

To keep it a buck, the hatred sees faaaarr beyond the bucks. Remember when Chris Rock joked that White audience members would never trade places with him… and he’s RICH!? Not really a joke.

Just hear what these rich, popular, powerful, [still] Black men have to say. And it’s not just the “other man” putting the pressure on them. Just saying. Just watch.

LeBron James and Kevin Durant KEPT IT 100% REAL on the hate they get, plus really making it as a Black man in America — especially during these times.

Adam Sandler Brings His “The Week Of” Movie To Netflix (Trailer)

Dude. Netflix is a beast out here, ya hear? And Adam Sandler skipped traditional small screens to go online worldwide costarring with his homie Chris Rock for “The Week Of” too? Major!

The comedy tells the story of a devoted, middle-class father (Adam Sandler) determined to pay for his daughter’s wedding despite the prodding of the wealthier father of the groom (Chris Rock). A series of calamities forces the dads (and their families) to come together and endure the longest week of their lives. “The Week Of” premieres April 27 on Netflix.

Check Out This Hilarious Teaser For “White Famous” Starring Jay Pharoah (Trailer)

It’s a fair question, and an old question: Why do WE have to ‘cross over’ to White audiences to be successful? I know it’s been the question asked of entertainers since “The Five Heartbeats” movie. And I am willing to bet a fair amount that Jay Pharoah sneaks in an imitation of Chris Rock in this debut season of his new Showtime series… Rock had me cracking the f*** up when he told Kevin Hart he was just ‘Black Famous’ on “Real House Husbands Of Hollywood” (you can’t CLOSE, Kevin, hahaaa)!

SHOWTIME® presents WHITE FAMOUS, the outrageous new Original Comedy Series starring Jay Pharoah. Comedian Floyd Mooney’s career is about to blow up, but he’s not so sure he’s ready for all that. He doesn’t have time for big egos, crazy studio execs and the wild side of fame. Hollywood is full of phonies but Floyd wants to stay true to himself. Can he make it without losing his soul? Don’t miss WHITE FAMOUS, the insanely funny new comedy from Tom Kapinos, executive producer of Californication, and Academy Award® winner Jamie Foxx, airing Sunday, October 15th 10PM ET/PT only on SHOWTIME®.

Jay Pharoah Speaks On Leaving SNL, Remembers Charlie Murphy And More (Video)

Jay Pharoah wants you to know that he is ‘not a yes n!gga’ folks. Hear, in the interview above, the risky career situations where he says ‘no’ to things, how he ended up leaving Saturday Night Live and more. Interesting how he affirmed that they (SNL) attempted to pigeonhole him as the Black impressionist; then he tossed that Chris Rock impression right in there within minutes (then a smidge of President Trump later).

(Did Jay say he got ‘White famous’ around the 8-minute mark though? Hahaa!)

Afro-Brazilian Hair Stories – Parts 1 & 2 (Video)

All jabs and jokes at the Chris Rock ‘Hair’ Movie aside, Black women’s hair is serious biz – monetary and cultural. This docu-miniseries from Essence mag is focusing on the cultural side. The women are beautiful; Afro-Brizilian beautiful. But some of the stories and struggles they share… not so.

While producing our August global issue in Rio de Janeiro, we interviewed women who are celebrating the “Afro” in Afro-Brazilian. However, their hair journey has been a battle of personal, family and social acceptance because of Brazil’s complicated history with race and identity.

Activism: 23 Ways You Could Be Killed If You Are Black in America (Video)

Remember when Chris Rock did the comedic PSA “How To Not Get Your Ass Kicked By The Police” on his show years ago? No? We’re not surprised. With the passage of time AND all the police involved tragedy going on today, who can remember? And with all the unwarranted KILLING happening to us, it is really hard to laugh anymore. Crazy thing is… there seems to be NOTHING we can do to GUARANTEE living through a police encounter nowadays. Truth is, the time for folly is at an end. Hence the #WeAreHere Movement and the video above.

Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Rihanna, Jennifer Hudson, Pink, Bono, and others explain why it’s time to take action to heal the long history of systemic racism in America. #23Ways

In collaboration with Alicia Key and the We Are Here Movement, with original reporting from Mic’s Jamilah King. Go to WeAreHereMovement.com to find out more.

Officially Ranked: The Top 25 Black Men’s Hairstyles

content-001539

The [Caesar is the] one haircut that has never — and will never — go out of style. There were Black men with Ceasars in the 40s, the 70s, the 90s, and now. Every other cut cycles. The Ceasar is forever.
Very Smart Brothas

Truth (even though dude above ain’t hearing it). Epic reporting on an under-appreciated urban topic. Ice Cube covered “The Barbershop” culture, and Chris Rock did the “Good Hair” movie… but there is something left to be addressed. Black men’s hairstyles have changed dramatically since before The Dramatics and will likely keep doing so beyond the next dance rap craze. But who will document the styles that made the man over the decades thus far. Don’t worry. The Brothas got you…

Top Five (Trailer)

Written, directed and… well… that’s enough extra duty for a man in his own movie, right? Chris Rock stars in “Top Five” – his story of a comedian going for acceptance as a serious comedian after years of success as a mainstream actor. All-star cast includes Rosario Dawson, Tracy Morgan, Kevin Hart, Whoopi Goldberg, Michael Che, and Cedric The Entertainer. Scored by Questlove (of The Roots). Executive produced by Jay Z and Kanye West.

Dear White People (Trailer)

A satire about being a black face in a white place.

Very interesting treatise. We’ve seen vids and blog articles about ‘what we wished White folks knew knew about Black people’ subject matter; but this one apparently approaches it with enough hey-I-know-that-actor star power and I-have-always-wanted-to-say-that scripting to make a full-length movie. The trailer hints at a thoughtful production that does honor to Spike Lee’s ‘School Daze’ and ‘Do the Right Thing’ days, leans toward John Singleton’s ‘Higher Learning’ handling of social issues (examine societal interaction with campus as a backdrop), and has just enough Tyler Perry-esque-ness (more ‘Family That Preys’ than ‘Madea…’) in it to keep all strata of movie goers engaged.

Hey, they talk about Black hair… throw some Chris Rock movie-making influence in there, too.

In theaters October 17, 2014. Put it on your ‘to watch’ list. Starting with the trailer above.

DJ LV, inspired by Pharrell, is ‘Happy’ to be a ‘Daddy’ (Video)

Atlanta by way of Oakland turntable master, DJ LV, got inspired by Pharrell’s popular hit ‘Happy’ & flipped it into a song & video to speak on how overjoyed the man is in being a father. I already know there are many good dads out there even amongst my immediate circle, but far too often society doesn’t celebrate these guys enough. I guess this is DJ LV’s way of doing that for what Chris Rock would describe as the ‘Father’s Day, Big Chicken eating, unsung heroes’ who love & do right by their kids.

‘Sway In The Morning’ Interviews Comedian Jay Pharoah and ‘Friends’ (Video)

President Obama, Denzel, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne, and Chris Rock all rolled into the studio for Sway in the Morning’ for an interview. Yep, all of them… in the person of Jay Pharoah (comedian, cast member on NBC’s Saturday Night Live). The man has a knack for mimicry and tomfoolery. Fun clip.
