47 Ronin (Trailer)
The Matrix Trilogy was good stuff. But how about a movie where the martial arts fighting fits the timeframe of the story? Hollywood’s got you this Christmas. “47 Ronin” looks to be the gift for the [Samurai] action-starved masses who love against-all-odds plots.
‘Their army is infinite… We are 47… If we do this, there is NO COMING BACK!’
Yeah. Keanu Reeves is bringing that to big screens this December.
Spike Lee Speaks On His New Kickstarter Project, Gentrification In Brooklyn, & School Daze 2 (Video)
Got three clips’ worth of good watching on vanguard filmmaker Spike Lee. In the first clip, above, Vibe interviews Spike on the challenges of fundraising for filmmaking via his Kickstarter campaign for his next film and the criticism it will bring. Innovative approach though: Spike invites all levels of participation (from even 5 bucks to those that can chip in $10,000)… and offers some interesting prizes can win (including signed Nikes, dinner with Spike and courtside seats at a Knicks game).
See two more clips after the jump: on his views regarding gentrification of his hood and on revisiting a classic.

Questlove Speaks On The Trayvon Martin Verdict (Video)
In an interview with host Alex Wagner of MSNBC’s Now, Hip-Hop icon and co-founder of The Roots, Ahmir “Questlove†Thompson declared that he was so taken aback when he found out that George Zimmerman got off (e.g. was acquitted of the murder of Florida teen Trayvon Martin) that he walked off of a DJ gig in Amsterdam. He noted that “it felt like I was watching my own trial,†adding later in an Internet post that “this whole Trayvon case has taught me: you ain’t sh!t. That’s the lesson I take from this case.â€

Comedy: Addicted To Twerking (Video)
Might have to check out Stevie TV sometime… maybe… maybe not. But this ‘Twerking Intervention’ is hilarious. Check it out and have a laugh for yourself.
Arsenio Hall Preps His Return to Late Night TV With His New Band (Video)
I think Arsenio peeped how successful & integral The Roots are to Jimmy Fallon’s late night talk show that he knew having a good band would be very important in 2013.
“I’ve got an incredible band and they’ll help me, too, (with booking).â€
–Arsenio Hall, in an Interview With Billboard.
Check out this behind the scenes look and photo shoot as Arsenio ramps up for his return to talk TV this September.
Actor Michael K. Williams Discovers His African Ancestry (Video)
Shout to OkayPlayer TV for posting this clip of actor Michael K. Williams aka Mr. Chalky White of ‘Boardwalk Empire’ (returning for a new season this Fall; can’t wait) tracing his roots back to Africa. ‘Heart of a King…Blood of a Slave’ – that Nas lyric rang true to Mr. Williams in this episode of ‘The Roots Of…’ Watch above.
Overwhelmed with emotion, Williams calls actor/friend Isiah Washington to share that indeed they are brothers!
Technology: So, Who Ordered the Pizza? Your Delivery Drone Is Here (Video)
Actually saw this coming…sort of. We posted on drones doing everything from destroying dug-in dissidents to delivering pizzas here. And here it is: Drone pizza delivery by Dominos DomiCopter.

The Word: ‘Color-Bind’ on The Colbert Report (Video)
‘President Obama takes the first step in racial dialogue by discussing how it feels to be in a room full of White people who are scared of him.’
– The Colbert Report
Oh, Fox News! Only you would take serious commentary on being Black in America and dismiss the conversation as frivolous. Guess good ole boys will be good ole boys. Right, Bill O’Reilly? Bernard Goldberg? Actually reporting that questions on race are moot because [odds are] Black people are the ones committing violent crimes. Wowwww.
Don’t get mad though folks. Stephen Colbert hits ’em in the head with the brilliant/hilarious skit (above) about black men and racism. Have a chuckle at the Fox chuckle-heads’ expense.
Everybody Street (Trailer) [NSFW]
‘A slice of a moment. A thousandth of a second of recognition. All I wanna do is take pictures.’
This is a slice of Americana served RAW. The shots the photographers share – some surreal, all for real – were bundled with their commentary on the human condition through their lenses to create this “Everybody Street” film. Interesting to say the least!
Warning: Not Safe For Work! The trailer contains brief nudity & displays graphic drug use.
NBA: 90 Seconds With Derek Rose (Video)
Chicago Bulls NBA star Derek Rose is set to return to the league following his severe knee injury & from the looks of CNN’s ’90 Seconds With…’ segment he’s supremely confident that’s he’s ready to go. The Chicago native when asked who’s the best player in the NBA right now he without hesitation let it be known that he was indeed the man despite some of the negative press he received for sitting out last season. Yes, confident is how athletes are supposed to be, but in a follow up question he did give a nod to the skill & dominance of “King James”.  Makes for an interesting matchup when their respective teams are speculated to meet again in October. I also like how Derek Rose mentioned Malcolm X as one of his life’s influences. I guess he’s applying the term ‘By Any Means Necessary’ in bringing an NBA championship back to Chicago.
Statik Selektah Can Produce a Beat ‘Blindfolded’ (Video)
This episode of ‘Rhythm Roulette’ (on the Mass Appeal channel) features Bostonian-turned-Brooklynite producer Statik Selektah. The blindfold goes on, the fingers dig in the dusty crates, an Statik creates with what he Selekts; throwing in some scratching as the finishing move.
VICE: Israeli Killer Robots (Video)
‘Israel is the world’s biggest exporter of military drones, used around the world for everything from surveillance to precision rocket attacks on speeding cars in remote locales. Israel’s drone program hasn’t stirred as much controversy as its American counterpart, but not because their targeted killings are any less fatal. VICE sent Simon Ostrovsky to a drone testing airfield in Israel to find out what their latest eye-in-the-sky can see.’

R&B Legend Ron Isley Performs “It’s Your Thing†With ‘The Roots’ On ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’ (Video)
The Roots (aka The World’s Greatest Band) backs one of R&B’s greatest performers (Ron Isley) for “It’s Your Thing.” The Late Night With Jimmy Fallon crowd gets rocked with a live rendition of an Isley Brothers classic!
Jarren Benton – “Life In The Jungle” (Prod. By Kato) [Video]
Jarren Benton with crazy visuals and lyricals for “Life In The Jungle” (produced by Kato) the latest single off his debut album “My Grandma’s Basement.” Directed by Armen Soudjian.
Vinyl Destination | Ep. 15: From Europe To South Africa With The Magnificent DJ Jazzy Jeff (Video)
In episode 15 of Vinyl Destination, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Skillz take us through Switzerland and London … then off to Cape Town (South Africa). Starting with spider bites on the lip? Breakfast for 97 bucks? Damn… and damn! And according to Jeff, this trip still wasn’t as scary as his other South African show with Will Smith back in the day. At least nothing crawled up his leg during these sets. Break beats, break dancers, watching record-breaking super-sonic skydiving (like we did on here), building with DJ Premier.
