Politics: Wondering “Who is Richard Spencer?” Talib Kweli Explains (Video)

The father of Alt-Right, the term and the movement. Don’t know what that means? Worry not… well not about not knowing, because Talib Kweli narrates an explanatory clip above on that. But DO worry about this RACIST’S rise to power and his continued influence!

‘Hail Trump!’ — Richard Spencer is the unapologetic White supremacist who you probably watched get punched in the head. He’s also the man who coined the term ‘alt-right’ and planned the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville that resulted in Heather Heyer’s death.

So how did this Pepe-The-Frog meme incarnate become the flag-bearer of American racism?

– NowThis News

And now he doesn’t think President Trump has gone far enough? Wow.

Joell Ortiz – “Anxiety” (Prod. By Nottz) [Video]

So necessary! My brother BoneBreaker Jones and I used to have constant conversations about this. Get help if you need it. That’s just good sense, but historically we have been on some nonsense in our community when it comes to matters of mental health… dismissive and even destructive at times. That has to stop, and talk like what Joey O puts down on this Nottz-produced track must continue!

Mental Health awareness is more than just a hashtag or a month of the year dedicated to its cause. It’s an everyday issue. Millions of us struggle with anxiety, depression, PTSD and many other forms of mental illness. I just want everyone to know that they should never feel ashamed or be afraid to ask for help. You’re not weak or crazy or a failure. You’re human. And humans aren’t perfect. We’re flawed and delicate. Speak to a therapist. Talk to a friend. Exercise. Diet. Meditate. Do whatever it takes. You’re worth it. Who knows… Your story may help someone else. Like me.

Fab Boy Boochie With R.I.P. Bars For ‘Cupcake’ (Video)

Shout to Birmingham’s (Alabama) Fabboy Boochie (aka Charles Smith) for this timely rhyme I caught on the Facebook feed. I think we will all feel this one for a while. We should. We must do better by our children.

I can hear yours tears of joy from heaven outside my window you getting love ❤️ from all over the 🌍 I wish I could’ve been there to help you I hope you accept my apology 🧁💜 #imsorry 😢 #KeepSharing 🙏🏾
Charles Smith

We keep losing our babies in the most heinous ways. Recently, Kamille “Cupcake” McKinney was kidnapped from a party, and her remains were found a week later (more after the jump). Damn.

Sports: NBA To Crack Down On Verbally Abusive Fans (Video)

Okay. I’m for this. I mean, I would hear the old argument, “That’s what they get paid millions for… to put up with fans’ outbursts.” But I was ALSO a proponent of once your mouth ‘writes that check’ that 6’7″ brother you slurred should get to ‘cash you out court side’ (fines issued on a case-by-case basis, of course). I mean, hey, ALL speech is free… but no one is free from the consequences (just saying).

Nowadays, though, why don’t we just mandate some decorum on both sides. If you don’t think your seat was worth what you paid for it, don’t feel like you can “get your money’s worth” with hateful heckling. Nah, son. That day is done.

I especially like that even a ‘borrowed’ season ticket seat can be lost if the borrower acts out of pocket.

Only potentials issue I see: No ‘instant replay’ in the stands. A lifelong fan losing that season ticket seat for a ‘misheard statement’… well, taking that L would hurt a fan working for $50K a year way more than that athlete who earned $5MIL last year.

Let’s see how this plays out. Let those players play in [relative] peace from now on.

‘The Marion Stokes Project’ Looks At A Woman Who Recorded 30 Years Of How We Looked In American Media (Trailer)

Interesting. If the press, or media, provides a ‘first draft of history,’ what can we say about this lady… who recording EVERYTHING media?

For over 30 years, Marion Stokes obsessively and privately recorded American television news twenty-four hours a day. A civil rights-era radical who became fabulously wealthy and reclusive later in life, her obsession started with the Iranian Hostage Crisis in 1979—at the dawn of the twenty-four hour news cycle. It ended on December 14, 2012 as the Sandy Hook massacre played on television while Marion passed away. In between, Marion filled 70,000 VHS tapes, capturing revolutions, wars, triumphs, catastrophes, bloopers, talk shows and commercials that show us how television shaped the world of today and in the process tell us who we were.

A mystery in the form of a time capsule, RECORDER delves into the strange life of a woman for whom home taping was a form of activism to protect the truth (the public didn’t know it, but the networks had been disposing their archives for decades into the trashcan of history) and though her visionary and maddening project nearly tore her family apart, her extraordinary legacy is priceless.

Politics: Jeff Johnson Leads A Power-Packed Panel Of Pundits In Discussing Today’s Black Agenda And Campaign 2020 (Video)

This feels like what a TV station calling itself REVOLT should be doing with its platform, at least in significant part. Very varied viewpoints from and in the Black community are presented and explored here, which is a good thing. Folks (e.g. we and the people who want our votes) need to understand that we are not a monolith, a block, a sector, a checklist item, etc. for the campaign… nor do we necessarily ‘win’ when ‘our candidate’ (whatever that means) wins.

Go get a snack and a beverage, and come back focused. ‘Bout to be some real talk. Necessary talk!

T.I., Killer Mike, Candace Owens, Steven Pargett Of Trap The Vote, Katrina Pierson, & Tamika D Mallory have an open and honest conversation about politics, and the culture we live in today.
– REVOLT TV

Be forewarned: You will get agitated and frustrated. Hang in there. Especially because there is thoughtful, useful insight shared EVERY TIME we get a chance to hear from Killer Mike. Much respect and respek on the name Michael Render!

Politics: Hasan Minhaj On Malaysia, 1MDB, And Goldman Sachs (Video)

That’s right Chicago. Your parking meters are Muslim.

WTF??? Oh, it’s Hasan doing another Patriot Act ep. Haha!

So, it’s time to laugh, laugh some more and learn something from stand-up ‘Professor’ Minhaj!

On this segment from the latest episode of Patriot Act, Hasan examines the 1MDB sovereign wealth fund scandal in Malaysia, in which former prime minister Najib Razak has been accused of funneling millions of dollars from the country into his personal bank accounts. Traditionally used as a means of economic diversification by countries reliant on a single industry, sovereign wealth funds have come under scrutiny as financial organizations like Goldman Sachs and corrupt politicians have taken advantage of these large, mostly unregulated pools of money for their own gain. While Goldman Sachs continues to profit off of sovereign wealth funds in other countries, the bank is currently being investigated for its role in the 1MDB scandal, which could have lasting implications on the world of finance.
– Patriot Act

Where politics, pools of money, and worldwide finance intersect… There will be global scandal and damage. How can we laugh about stuff like that? Dunno, but Hasan always has a way doing it every time, doesn’t he?

Politics: Hasan Minhaj On Cricket Diplomacy And Cricket Corruption (Video)

Watching a ‘live-action Brooks Brothers catalog’ with your dad on the couch for five days straight. Haha! Okay, I feel for you and your torture memories, Hasan. But why is cricket an actual big thing the world over? We need to know. Show us, man, and welcome back!

On the latest episode of Patriot Act, Hasan takes a look at the history and politics behind one of the biggest sports in the world: cricket. With billions of fans scheduled to tune into the upcoming 2019 Cricket World Cup, Hasan examines how the game has evolved from a sport of British colonizers into a tool of diplomacy and a force for good despite recent scandals and corruption. Hasan also explores how cricket has especially grown in India due in part to the creation of the IPL, a flashy professional cricket league founded by the infamous Lalit Modi, and how that expansion has unfortunately come at the expense of the growth of cricket in other countries.

Beating the colonizers at their own game. I get that. Like James Naismith and today’s minority dominance of basketball.
