Donovan McNabb Speaks On Terrell Owens, Cam Newton And More (Video)

Well. If ANYBODY can speak on it, former Philly football beast QB Donovan McNabb can. And he’s talking to Tiki and Tierney on CBS Radio. Plainly spoken, straightforward, honest, real. What T.O.’s former teammate has to say about him may or may not sit well, but you can tell he’s speaking his truth… about Owens, Cam Superman, his own time in the League… so much.

(Interesting take on Cam and that Super Bowl fumble.)

Surely you did not think it was a game when we said that Kendrick Lamar said he would rep Compton for life, did you? He got the Key To The City and he’s still locked in! Well, Noisey is dropping six parts of proof for the last one or two of you doubters out there. Compton, California, is one of Hip-Hop’s most celebrated locales, the birthplace of acts like N.W.A. and, more recently, Kendrick Lamar. It’s also home to a complicated gang culture. ‘Noisey Bompton’ centers around Kendrick Lamar and the friends he grew up with on the West Side of Compton, many of whom feature on the cover of his album ‘To Pimp A Butterfly.’ In the first of six segments, we sit down with Kendrick to talk about his acclaimed albums, pay a visit to his high school, Centennial, and get to know his childhood friend Lil L.

The BlackBoard (Teaser Trailer)

Wait, wait! Don’t click off like this is some schoolwork on a weekend. School’s out, but class… that’s always in. Remember that. But this is a chance to learn something. It’s a doc vid on Black skateboarders. Ahhh, right? Now, you see the whole title: “The BlackBoard.”

“The Blackboard” documentary film was produced and directed by attorney/indie filmmaker Marquis Bradshaw. The film aims to challenge what it means to be Black in America by examining the issue of acceptance within the Black community through the lens of skateboarding culture. “The Blackboard” stars prominent Black pro skaters Jabari Pendleton, Karl Watson, and Ron Allen (one of the first Black pro skaters and one of the first skaters to ever receive major corporate sponsorship). As it relates to pop culture, skateboarding among Black people has only in recent years become socially acceptable, beginning with artists such as Lupe Fiasco and Pharrell Williams.

Too Black For Brazil (Documentary)

Color bias… you know, the light skin vs. dark skin thing… it’s EVERYWHERE! In Brazil though, to seemingly a greater extent than elsewhere, the darker-skinned people play into the preference toward lighter skin. The preference is persistent in the culture even today. And just when some Brazilians thought the people were ready to take a huge step forward, they took a big step back; kicked the throne from under their lovely carnival queen down in the process.

Nayara Justino thought her dreams had come true when she was selected as the Globeleza carnival queen in 2013 after a public vote on one of Brazil’s biggest TV shows. But some regarded her complexion to be too dark to be an acceptable queen. Nayara and her family wonder what this says about racial roles in modern Brazil.

Damn. Watch the documentary above.

Black Thought Speaks On How Artists Got J Dilla Beats, Dilla’s Legacy And More (Video)

Every year I would go to Detroit for, like, at least a couple of days to spend with Jay Dee; so that I could be one of the first people that got his tape for the upcoming season.
Black Thought

Imagine if your biggest fans had fans. And your beat tape was ‘distributed’ by your biggest fans making an annual sojourn to your spot to come get it… Or just listen to Black Thought tell you about how he, Common and others used to check for Dilla back in the day.

Black Thought speaks on getting beats from J Dilla and Scott Storch back in the day.

J Dilla made it all possible. His music lives through Thought and all the singers and emcees that breathed over his beats.

Mac Miller: Stopped Making Excuses (Documentary)

Deep. Never had any problem with Pittsburgh emcee Mac Miller. Some did. And according to this documentary, dude had major problems with himself. Critics were hitting Miller hard in his pride since he was 19. Still he pressed on, got his his 2011 debut album pressed and independently released, and kept the pressure on until it hit #1 on Billboard. But then he moved to Los Angeles… and hit a sharp downward spiral into drug abuse. Talk about PROBLEMS! But, of course, Miller found his way through (and lived to tell the story above).

I’d rather be the corny white rapper than the drugged-out mess that can’t even get out of his house. You don’t go down in history because you overdosed.

Real sh!t. See what he went through, and how he made it through, in the documentary “Mac Miller: Stopped Making Excuses.”

Ghostface Gets At Back Martin Shkreli With His Own ‘Goons’ And ‘Goo’ (Video)

Stop f#cking around and grow the f#ck up…BE A MAN!

It’s the clap back at Millionaire Martin for all that reckless talk… But not how you think. Interesting. Verrrry interesting. The Hip-Hop Nation might’ve expected Ghost to go hard at prescription drug magnate Martin Shkreli. However, only the shrewdest heads could have thought it though to come up with this type of battle plan.

Ghostface Killah strikes back at Martin Shkreli with the 5000% increase of Daraprim.

War is chess, not checkers, folks. It’s often about winning hearts and minds. So, to take the battle to where Shkreli cannot win (e.g. Martin ain’t winning anybody’s heart anytime soon), to paint him as TRYING to be the ultimate villain THEN clown him for that THEN bring in the ‘goods’ to join the laughter… THEN have one of them end with a teary-eyed plea to Shkreli (and his MOM) to do right by the people who are sick and dying in the wake of his greed (e.g. his aforementioned 5000% price increase of the HIV drug Daraprim)…checkmate!

And in the midst of it all, promote the Wu Goo brand as the ‘anti’ to all of that at the same damn time! Mr. Starks’ is showing the skill and temperament of a master… Shaolin technique is VERY good and his sword is deadly sharp. Well played.

Watch.

What? Millionaire Martin Shkreli Says He Would Smack ‘Ghost’ In His Face (Video)

Ha! It sounds funnier because this is real life. This dude don’t didn’t see how the Bronson v. Starks beef worked out, did he? This is Martin Shkreli – the bad boy of Big Pharma, the guy who bought the HIV drug rights and jacked the pill price way the f#ck up – you know, that douche. And sure, he is not the only douche on the planet, but as Bill Maher might quip… Shkreli does have a very punchable face. Watch him pop off a bunch of rah-rah talk above on radio. Then, after the jump, watch him say virtually nothing in his Congressional hearing.

In either clip… yeah, punchable. Wonder if Ghostface is gonna put out a video message to this guy.

Action Bronson With Food and Fun From The Festival In Jamaica (Video)

Well, well, if it isn’t ol’ Bam Bam at the Nyam Jam Festival in Jamaica. And what’s cooking chef? Whatever it is… We’re sure to say, “F#ck, That’s Delicious!”

As Action Bronson’s presence in the “Food World” becomes more permanent, new and diverse opportunities are popping up for the self proclaimed Human Highlight Reel. This time it popped up in the most beautiful location possible, Goldeneye Resort in Oracabessa, Jamaica. The event was entitled Nyam Jam, and even before Action knew exactly what it was, he agreed to attend. As stated in the video, there was not a single bad bite of food, and if you love hot sauces and various pepper spreads, then you really couldn’t do much better. Mr. Bronson honed in on a calabasa slaw prepared by visiting Puerto Rican chef, Jose Enrique and a smoked chicken sandwich from Jamaican grill master, Gariel Ferguson. His experience at Nyam Jam inspired him so much, that upon his arrival back in New York, he immediately got cow foot stew and ate in the parking lot of Home Depot. One love.

Al Jazeera Investigates: The Dark Side (Documentary)

Yes, this is the documentary that folks are tying to Peyton Manning. And while the Super Bowl bound quarterback is a key figure in the way all this came about, this work should be allowed to stand on its own as an impactful, informative piece by Al Jazeera. Huge insights into the how and why of high-performing, high-achieving, highly-paid athletes even go there with these chemical enhancements. When is good enough good enough? For them, NEVER. That realization alone should let you begin to understand how far these athletes would go to get the stuff; driving how far/deep into the “Dark Side” folks will go to get the stuff to them.

Al Jazeera investigates the secretive world of doping in sports and raises questions about whether medical professionals are linked to some of the greatest sports heroes.

A related side note: it’s a shame that we are losing Al Jazeera America – one of the few well-respected world-renowned true investigative journalism entities with a foothold in the West. The news agency will shut down in America in April.

Miles Ahead (Trailer)

Nah…just woke up Black…knew how to play…
Miles Davis

Wow! Everything you heard, and thought you knew, about Miles Davis the jazz (sorry, ‘social music’) great and then some. We have been posting and salivating about this project on here. Now here’s the theatrical trailer. Go, Don Cheadle. GO!

“Miles Ahead” is a wildly entertaining and moving exploration of one of 20th century music’s creative geniuses, Miles Davis, featuring a career defining performance by Oscar nominee Don Cheadle in the title role. Working from a script he co-wrote with Steven Baigelman, Cheadle’s bravura directorial debut is not a conventional bio-pic but rather a unique, no-holds barred portrait of a singular artist in crisis.
