ArtByOdell Welcomes Atu & Dpat of the ‘Soulection’ Crew To Atlanta (Audio)

ArtByOdell sat down with local Atlanta promoters HomeTown Heroes to discuss their first ATL event. On the bill they had Dexter Brandon of Kolossus Records along with Thrice Groove of WERC Crew. Â To headline the event was Dpat & Atu of Soulection who made their Atlanta debut. Â Like past Soulection DJ’s (LAKIM, Jo Def & Sango)making their first trip to ATL Dpat & Atu spoke with ArtByOdell. The discussion talks music what inspires them and their international backgrounds. Â Odell also speaks with Dexter Brandon 7 Thrice Groove both DJ/Producers telling him what they have planned for listeners in 2015.

Cornell University And Bill Adler To Create A Digital Hip-Hop Archive (Audio)

Aaliyah, Ace Hood, the Afros, Ali D, Arrested Development: In Bill Adler’s extensive collection of Hip-Hop history, some of the genre’s biggest names are arranged next to lesser mainstream artists.
Adler was the founding publicity director of Def Jam Records. One of his first assignments was getting pop music critics at daily newspapers to cover one of the label’s new artists, LL Cool J. He worked at Def Jam for six years, before going independent and later running a gallery devoted to Hip-Hop photography. From these ventures, he accrued a massive archive, which lived in a storage space in the basement of his building until he sold the collection to Cornell University last year. Soon it will also live online
Adler sent Cornell University 500 vinyl recordings, an impressive collection of books in several languages and roughly 100,000 newspaper and magazine articles about rap and Hip-Hop…

I honestly don’t know much about Azealia Banks’ music, but I’ve seen her commentary on twitter about quite a number of things & I’ve often retweeted a few things she said on social media that proved to me that she’s wise & aware beyond her 23 years. When I saw everyone talking about her recent interview it piqued my interest to see what the fuss was about. After watching this interview I’m more of a fan of Azealia Banks the person even though I’m not too familiar with her music.

Atlanta based emcee (via York, Pa), Phene, promotes his new project ‘Revelations 717’ on the ‘Sway In The Morning’ show on Sirius XM radio. It was dope to also hear former Atlanta based emcee Lyric Jones call-in to the show to show love as well. Looks like Sway & Heather B are going to ‘Put Him In The Game’ by putting tracks off his new album on rotation on Eminem’s SHADE 45 Sirius XM channel.

We know the story of WFMU, 91.1 FM New York. Not specifically that station, but about hardworking folk who work at a radio show, doing shows and the work it takes to make them out of pure love (e.g. no money), devotion and a sense of duty to the community. We have been doing it for years, for our show – Beatz & Lyrics – every week, for listeners worldwide. So this trailer touched a special part of our collective soul.

Kendrick Lamar stopped by The Whoolywood Shuffle promoting his latest single “i”. He speaks on traveling to St. Louis to gain Ron Isley’s permission for use of his “That Lady” sample. K. Dot also confirms George Clinton collaborations are underway.
There are also motivational gems contained within the interview. One being that Kendrick emphasizes the basis of challenging yourself. He said “Challenge yourself, and don’t take instances for granted.” “Whether it’s a 16, a hook, or 4 bars challenge yourself. And this is why Hip-Hop is at a point where creativity is stagnant, because artists aren’t challenging themselves.”

J. Keys Recap: Performance at the 2014 A3C Festival (Video)

That’s alright right there, J. Keys! Perspectives from the A3C we just put in the books… and from our Beatz & Lyrics Show 15th Anniversary Concert (featuring J. Keys, Elzhi, Skyzoo, J-Live and more) during the Festival.
The 10th annual A3C took place over 5 days, between Wednesday, Oct 8th and Sunday, Oct 12th. A3C venues were centrally located throughout four closely connected, high traffic, cultural hubs in metro Atlanta: Downtown, Old 4th Ward, Little 5 Points and East Atlanta Village.
J. Keys took the stage for an impromptu performance on the A3C Main Stage during the Beatz & Lyrics Show 15th Anniversary show hosted by JayForce Friday, October 10, 2014.
