DJ Mister Cee Opens Up About His Sexuality In New Public Service Announcement (Video)

The controversy surrounding famed NY radio host DJ Mister Cee had less to do with his sexuality than it did with him lying to himself, his family, & his fans. I believe most people will accept you for who you are if you are just honest about it, but you can’t expect the media & fans to leave you alone when you’re a very public figure who has been arrested repeatedly for soliciting male prostitutes in the news.  The most powerful thing DJ Mister Cee has done up to this point is this new public service announcement encouraging people to get tested. There are many women who become at risk because guys like DJ Mister Cee choose not to be honest with their significant others in their lives. Many of us understand his reasons for not being forthcoming, but there are literally thousands of people contracting STD’s simply because their partners weren’t honest about their behavior.   At least now we can applaud DJ Mister Cee for being honest with his friends, fans, & supporters & for making the right moves to help save lives & bring about more awareness. Rich Kidd Gets It Crackin’ In Canada During The Caribana Festival (Video)

Ghana-by-way-of-Toronto rapper/producer Rich Kidd goes up to North North America for a work-cation – ending up at Canada’s Caribana parade, but not before doing some studio work with Young Guru, doing some stage time, and visiting The Remix Project (a community center for kids interested in music and film).

But the Kidd finally does get to the festival of fine women, and he gets it in. Chatting, partying… running amok on the streets… horsing around so wild he manages to break his ankle (different spin on “break a leg, Kidd to be certain). Now, you might think laughter is the best medicine; but check out the medical ASS-istance Rich Kidd gets instead. Crazy!

Nas Talks Hip-Hop’s Presence In Fashion & Culture and Gives His Response To Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Control’ Verse (Video)

Check out Nas’ response to Kendrick Lamar…

‘My response is “Wow, I love Hip-Hop right now.’

Miss Info, as an adept interviewer, tries to pull more from Nasir on the current “Control” verse controversy. But Nas is appropriately terse. Answers on that topic, and Hip-Hop’s influence and place in fashion and culture, were pointed and polite. You get the feeling that, toward the end of the clip, Nas is more ready to party than to answer more questions. Let’s go, Miss Info!

Jadakiss Speaks On Kendrick Lamar & How Battling Is Good For Hip Hop (Video)

“Following suit ain’t always good… When you build a fan base in this game, they like you for what thy like you for. They don’t want me to be Kendrick or do what Kendrick do; and they don’t want Kendrick to do what they like ‘Kiss for…”

Jadakiss

Jadakiss with jewels for the masses in his interview with DRIVEN on the STASHED TV channel. Jada’s seen a battle or two, so he can speak with authority on how a battle can be good (actually “therapeutic”) for Hip-Hop as long as it stays lyrical. Wow. Another timely piece from another Don from the Golden Era of Hip-Hop. Probably recorded before the Kendrick “Control” dropped; but truth is truth. Check out more video from this interview below….

‘Chi Raq’ Documentary Highlights Chicago Death Tolls That Mirror Iraq & Double That Of Afghanistan (Video)

“Chi Raq” is a compelling video portrait of life in South and West Chicago by London filmmaker Will Robson-Scott. Shout out to my homie Hustle Simmons who appears in the mini-documentary/video portrait to speak on his own personal loss & offered some positive words about the escalating problem in Chicago.

“For the past decade, Chicago has been enduring a violence epidemic, with a death toll in the thousands and casualties mirroring the losses experienced by the US Army in Iraq war over the same period. Allowing its subjects to take center stage and tell their stories in their own words, Robson-Scottʼs film is unflinchingly honest in its depiction of life on the streets of one of the most dangerous cities in America.”

9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate Kendrick’s “Control” Verse (Video)

Wooo! 9th Wonder said Kendrick Hall-of-Famed’ them in his verse on Big Sean’s joint we posted, “Control.” Later in their discourse, Young Guru declared that the rhyme will make emcees go to their people and ask, ‘Is this tight enough?’ BEFORE putting rhymes out …like they should always be doing anyway! Watch the clip above. Engaging conversation between two of today’s Hip-Hop heavyweights.

When answering the question, ‘How historical is an emcee’s verse?’ …the way to answer is plain and simple: Who does it get talking?

9th Wonder and Young Guru speaking on it… Score for Kendrick Lamar!

‘…came at y’all n!ggas on the sh!t that y’all complaining hasn’t been in the game… This is LYRICS! What he shot at you was LYRICS!’

12 O’Clock Boys (Trailer)

“I’ve been on this earth for a decade… and a couple of years. So, what’s that make me? I’m a grown a** man!”

Premiering at SXSW 2013, this is the documentary trailer for “12 O’Clock Boys.” At the core of the story is Pug, a hardened 13 year old, trying to join The Twelve O’Clock Boys, the notorious urban dirt-bike gang in Baltimore (Maryland, USA). The youth gang runs wild in the streets, clashing with police who cannot do not give chase for fear of endangering the public. Pug suddenly loses his older brother and really looks to The Twelve O’Clock Boys as a surrogate family. The “12 O’Clock Boys” documentary is directed by Lotfy Nathan.

Nas Gets Invited To ‘Cognac’ To Taste & Create Some Hennessy (Video)

I almost didn’t post this video because it’s a borderline advertisement for Hennessy & no one cut us a check or sent us a bottle, but I found this video of Nas traveling to France to meet with the founders of Hennessy to be very interesting. Hip Hop turned 40 years old as of August 11, 1973 so it’s only right to put a toast up.

Black People Don’t Do: Atheism (Video)

From the ancient times, through slavery and the struggle for civil rights, and into modern times… worship and religiosity has been woven into the fabric of Black life worldwide. Has the time come for change in that regard?  Does a Black atheist automatically throw away his/her ‘Blackness card’ in choosing to be such? Questions like these are what the National Black Programming Consortium (NBPC) clip above poses… among others.

VICE: Russian Billionaire Sergey Veremeenko is Russia’s 0.00001% (Video)

“We’ve been flying all over this land, and you’re like, ‘Okay. When do we get to Sergey’s place?’ This is Sergey’s place. This entire f#king place is Sergey’s. He owns pretty much the entire north of Russia!” – Ryan Duffy, Vice

Remember the 1% we were supposed to hate on as the Occupy Wall Street movement gained traction? Well, how much hate do you think a country’s .00001% can stir up?

After the collapse of Communism in Russia, as state assets were divvied up and privatized, a few individuals stepped in to take the reins of this entrepreneurial experiment. Rewarded with massive fortunes and fame, they came to be known as “the oligarchs.”

To see how the .00001% lives, we met up with infamous Russian oligarch Sergey Veremeenko and spent quality time hog-hunting and helicopter-joyriding at his private estate outside Moscow.

– Vice

Connections in the country’s steel, mining, and banking industries… and the MOVIE industry… and a fine a$$ 20-something model/actress wife (Sofya Skya, Miss World 2006). Man.

Click play. Let the hating begin.

She’s A Rare Find. But That Diamond You’re About To Buy Her… Not So Much!

BWE

‘As soon as you leave the jeweler with a diamond, it loses over 50% of its value.’

Rohin Dhar, BusinessInsider.com

Fellas, why… why do we do it? With the money we spend convincing your special lady, her friends, and every onlooker (now and in the future) of the eternal love we have for her… with a big shiny rock… an investment in a nice nest egg could be made. Within a few years, you’d both have some real ‘finance for the romance’ down the road. But instead,

‘Americans exchange diamond rings as part of the engagement process, because In 1938 De Beers decided that they would like us to. Prior to a stunningly successful marketing campaign 1938, Americans occasionally exchanged engagement rings, but wasn’t a pervasive occurrence.’

That’s right. The ‘grand tradition’ of showing everlasting love with a rare diamond started as a marketing campaign… and the tradition isn’t even a century old! Plus, that ‘rare’ diamond isn’t even all that rare. De Beers holds the diamond supply in check to make it seem that way.

Amen? Amen!
(Disclaimer: Now… but if you show up without for the big proposal without that rock… Her answer… well, that on you. But you’ll have good sense and sound financial principle on your side.)

Madden NFL 25 (Trailer)

Hard To Earn, Too Costly To Learn: How For-Profit Colleges Saddle African-American Students With Staggering Debt

graduate-620x412

President Obama echoes the sentiment of Black people throughout the ages in America: The key to “winning the future” is to get educated. Get educated, get paid, live the American Dream. That’s the path to prosperity right… right?

Well, Kai Wright of Salon.com writes that something isn’t right:

‘…black college enrollment shot up by nearly 35 percent between 2003 and 2009, nearly twice the rate at which white enrollment increased…But this headlong rush of black Americans to get schooled has also led too many down a depressingly familiar path. As with the mortgage market of the pre-crash era, those who are just entering in the higher ed game have found themselves ripe for the con man’s picking. They’ve landed, disproportionately, at for-profit schools, rather than at far less expensive public community colleges, or at public universities. And that means they’ve found themselves loaded with unimaginable debt, with little to show for it…’

– Salon.com

Have we been had, hoodwinked, and bamboozled again? Kai makes a powerful argument. And were he here to speak on it today, Malcolm X might well quip: Plymouth rock landed on us. We climbed from under it. Then they dropped a mountain of debt on top of us!

Several of the top for-profit colleges are run by financiers, not educators. Damn. Now, more than ever, it costs to be poor; and it pays to exploit those striving for more.
