We’ll always love Big Poppa… even more so over a Primo (aka DJ Premier) track!
March marks the passing of the lauded rapper Notorious B.I.G. (aka Biggie) and to honor his legacy, New York resident DJ Finesse debuted a special tribute mix during DJ Premier’s Sirius/XM show “Live From Headqcourterz” on March 8. This extended mix (longer than the debut) showcases Biggie a capellas paired with Premier-produced beats, with a special intro by Primo himself.

Although Skillz has been touring the world as DJ Jazzy Jeff’s hypeman as documented in their Vinyl Destination web series, the Virgina emcee has been spending plenty of time in Atlanta if you’ve noticed occasionally from his twitter page. Just like the sound of Skillz’s “2012 Rap Up” his new video & single “I’m Outchea” off of his latest album “Thoughts Become Things” is a musical indication of this ATL/southern based influence from a production standpoint if you were to ask me.

I had dope producer Lex Boogie & the outstanding visual artist Goldi Gold to speak on their collaborative instrumental project “Sharks In The Golden Pond” last Saturday during The Beatz & Lyrics Show. “Conceptually the project can best be described as a ‘visual instrumental’. Lex Boogie from the Bronx, known for his soulfully, raw, Boom bap, , drum kicks and snares hails from his name sake, the boogie down Bronx. Artist Goldi gold best known for his staple life like, one of a kind graphic illustrations hails from New Jersey. When the two got together in Atlanta they immediately saw the value in each others work and shared a similar work ethic. The project maybe the perfect instrument to take you from the freeze of this past winter to the unpredictability of the Spring. Collaboratively this project is symbolic to the drive and vision of these two talented Hip Hop heads.”

Check out this new extended trailer for the upcoming big budget summer film starring Brad Pitt called ‘World War Z’. These new zombie flicks sometimes makes you wonder if Hollywood is getting us prepared for something that could actually happen. The premise of the film centers around Brad Pitt who plays a worker for the U.N. desperately trying to find out why an apocalyptic pandemic of zombie outbreaks are bringing down entire nations around the world. Before you laugh at the thought that any of this could be even remotely possible you may want to read about how countries like Russia are reportedly working on weapons that can turn people into zombies. Now that’s a possible horror story. World War Z hits theaters June 21st….

Great to see the success former Atlanta resident Walshy Fire has been having down in Miami especially as a member of Major Lazer with Philly DJ/producer Diplo. Seemed like yesterday when I’d always see him at many of the reggae events around the city of Atlanta. Fast forward several years & he continues to be active down there in Miami as well. As many people arrive in Miami this weekend primarily for the Winter Music Conference, Walshy hosts this special “Potato Travel Guide” to Miami for those who are in town now & those who plan to visit in the near future….

Termanology set it off right with this first single from the project called “Bars For Days” featuring the New York City based Nitty Scott, MC & his fellow Massachusetts fam Ea$y Money. Great production from Shortfyuz & cuts by DJ Statik Selektah coupled with superb lyricism makes this joint a definite banger. Nice little nod to the legendary Big Daddy Kane with the cover resembling the ‘Love Live The Kane’ artwork too….
