Hip-Hop In The Holy Land: Meet The Palestinian Godfather Of Rap (Documentary)
Comparisons to the tensions in Chicago were drawn with that Chiraq documentary episode we posted on here. Well, now let’s go East to a hotbed… for tensions and conflicts, yes, but Hip-Hop, too? Check out this expo on the rap scene in Israel and Palestine, including an intro to Tamer Nafar, co-founder of DAM (Da Arabian MCs), the first Palestinian rap group to break through.
Kaytranada x Mark Morrison – “Return Of The Mack” (Jay Dee Blend)
Ohhhh! Once again… “Returrrrn Of The Maaack” by Mark Morrision gets its collar popped by Kaytranada, who mixed the 1990s jam with a beat from the Motor City track master Jay Dee aka J Dilla. Dip and slide to the vibe put down by this new musical creation.

Living Famously: Marvin Gaye (Documentary)
BBC docu-series ‘Living Famously’ gives a near-hour look at the life and legacy of the brilliant, gone-way-too-soon crooner Marvin Gaye. Enigmatic, tumultuous, mega-talented, tragic, soulful, sad… too many emotions and descriptors for the singer’s life and career. A view from all angles in this episode about one of the most influential musical and cultural figures of the 20th Century (arguably of all time).
A $40K Music Video To Sell A House? In West Hollywood, Yes! (Video)
Well, damn! So that’s how we’re doing it at 9133 Oriole Way, West Hollywood CA, eh? There’s music, models, a luxurious home, blingy cars, bottles popping… but this is no music video. Not selling music. Selling REAL ESTATE. Apparently, a couple of realtors really understand the maxim “it takes money to make money”… like about $40,000 dropped on the above visuals to sell the home featured (valued at $33 million). IF a potential buyer has questions during the walkthrough, would one be, “Excuse me, does this model come with the models?”
(Okay, maybe it’s just us that would ask.)
Nelson Mandela’s Old Johannesburg Hideout Gives South African Artists & Entrepreneurs A New Home (Video)
Nice! Shout to The Daily Beast for bringing this Johannesburg gem to light. A center for entrepreneurship and culture that was once at the heart of the anti-apartheid movement. In South Africa, if you want to realize a dream, this is the place – apparently to work it or witness the work come to fruition. Great look at the people and art of Johannesburg in this clip.
Sheek Louch – “Got Damn”
Another drop heralding the coming of “Silverback Gorilla 2” from Sheek Louch. What keeps it fresh is that these jawns are GOOD! Listen to this lyrical shocker from the D-Blocker, a redo of the “Cot Damn” single from The Clipse [re]entitled “Got Damn.”
‘White Squad’ Helps People Of Color Enjoy White Privilege (Video)
Mm hmmmm! This is going to enlighten some, sting others, and make most of us laugh. Good! Saw MTV coming with something truly bold and provocative (no, not a ’16 & Pregnant’ spin-off) – a biting satire called “White Squad.” Part of the network’s Look Different campaign against prejudice, it features a ‘consultancy’ that offers advice and provides stand-ins to help clients of color get fair treatment in situations where being lighter (read: White) is an advantage.
As the “White Squad” site says, “White privilege is real. White Squad is fiction.” So, in a way that respects our intelligence (and sometimes may have us forgetting that it’s just TV), “White Squad” brings up and faces down uncomfortable societal issues. While being tongue-in-cheek funny, it makes us ALL think about how people of color are treated. Now, if MTV’s broaching topics they should ‘leave alone’… that is, if “White Squad” content threatens to make folks uncomfortable… then those folks should should watch. “White Squad” and the Look Different campaign was meant to reach them; not just so-called ‘offenders’ but those who have accepted being ‘offended’ as part of being part of society, too.
Fair is fair for everyone; not just the fairer-skinned. That’s what this site says. Watching you MTV. VERY interesting…
Freeway x Scholito – “Check (Fremix)” (Video)
My album way better than all y’all’s. I’m smarter than all y’all…
– Philly Freezer
Freeway in the place with young Scholito … and they show they got what it takes to rock Meek Mill’s “Check” track right! The latest in a long line of Fremixes, this one’s for “Check.” Philly major – with the original and Fremix done by brothers from The City Of Brotherly Love.
Public Enemy – “Man Plans God Laughs” (Video)
Concept video with a grounded feel. No glitz… realness. Hip-Hop Nation approved. Stand up for this “Man Plans God Laughs” visual as Professor Griff and Chuck D walk tall through the community; giving us a view of what could be and what could go wrong if we don’t stand strong for the community and the kids. This is the title track for the Public Enemy album out now (linked below).

The Legendary ‘Daddy-O’ Shares A Few Memories & Rare Stories About The Notorious Biggie Smalls (Video)
There is a reason I love to hear from the OG’s in the game and this interview with Daddy-O is a prime example of why. Â LiveHipHopDaily invited legendary Daddy-O (emcee, producer, Stetsasonic) to the studio and he shares some rarely heard stories about Biggie Smalls. Â I can’t remember watching a 3 minute interview packed with this many jewels and gems about the late great Biggie. Â First Daddy-O explains how they lived blocks away from each other and how Lance “Un” Rivera (producer) would tell him about Biggie & Jr. Mafia but Daddy-O explains they were just kids in the neighborhood at the time. Â He goes into the origin of Jr Mafia and how Big walked into a studio with no pen and paper but crafted timeless rhymes. Â He explains Biggie’s thought process when he played his verse for Player’s Anthem & Real Love remix both recorded at Daddy-O studio. Â Enjoy this gem of an interview and Pt.2 is after the jump!

Reggae: Popcaan – “Way Up” (Video)
Popcaan going “Waaaaaaay Up” (esp. seeing that ting he rolling in the video, ya know)! Nice visuals for this hot off the Interwebs drop produced by Mildew Riddim.
Comedy: Papoose Pranks Aspiring Rappers (Video)
Bwaaahahaaa! Okay, this was cruel AND funny at the same damn time. Pap surprised up-n-comers Doc Nice, S-Class, Big Tyni, and Lord Kas at the studio; then in the booth. They were recording, trying to get out there. And here comes the diss king throwing shots through the mic at them…totally unexpected. Caught ’em raw. Watch the clip. Watch their faces. HEAT!
Yeah, if the prank went on too long it would have gone from remixes to mixing it up with a couple of the rappers and Pap (maybe… got some apologies when he fronted ’em though… wow).

Alternative/R&B: Major Myjah – “Trouble”
Very soothing. Playing this let your mind, heart and soul go on that needed trek away from here…soaring. Maybe Major Myjah let “Trouble” go… to let you let your troubles go. For a little while. Sounds good.
