Large Professor Names His Top 5 Producers Of All-Time (Video)

If anyone can speak to a top 5 all-time list for Hip-Hop producers, it’d have to be a stalwart like Large Professor. DJ Mark The 45 King, Easy Mo Bee, Marley Marl, Rick Rubin, DJ Premier and Pete Rock.

Wait… isn’t that SIX? Haaa! C’mon, give him one. Enjoyable sit-down with Sway In The Morning’ (above) that includes more good Hip-Hop convo (including talk about his “Re:Living” release).

Killer Mike Dishes On Dolezal With Larry Wilmore And Guests On ‘The Nightly Show’ (Video)

Killer Mike is hilarious! Still clever in this clip though. Joined across the table by comediennes Natasha Leggero and ‘The Nightly Show’ regular Robin Thede, the show discussion focused comedic fire on Rachel ‘I still consider myself Black’ Dolezal. Clever conversation with bite, but not vicious. Funny, but they do get to some cultural fine points brought up by the former NAACP official’s Blackishness making front page news. Don’t know if they really nailed down an answer to the “Does Rachel get a pass?” question… Then again, who says that was the point? Watch, enjoy, ponder a bit.

Great bonus footage after the jump.

Watch.

Never Walk Alone (Documentary)

You may need to watch this twice. Tears will get in the way the first time. Prediction.

Young teen Jack Gallagher has had a hard life. No doubt. But somehow, it has not hardened his spirit. Finding sanctuary on the hardtop, Jack played every game for his mom, in the last pair of shoes she bought him, the CP3s…until they no longer fit. Well, Chris Paul III got wind of that story and… just watch. Oh, man. THIS story.

The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.
Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven?
And is not the lute that soothes your spirit, the very wood that was hollowed with knives?
When you are joyous, look deep into your heart and you shall find it is only that which has given you sorrow that is giving you joy.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.
– On Joy and Sorrow, From The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran

Very appropriate literary piece for this E:60 piece. It’ll make even more sense after you watch.

I don’t do [many interviews]… When I did interviews… they sent their best at me… When they could not defeat our arguments, they decided to ban me from television; and they banned me from going to Black colleges, and even White colleges, to deliver a message. So… many people thought I had died.

And It Don’t Stop: Allen Iverson On His Injecting Hip-Hop Into The NBA, His New Documentary And More (Video)

Allen Iverson was into way more than basketball as a young’un. And we know he brought more than phenomenal skills to pro basketball. If there was a name with which history could associate the NBA’s Hip-Hop swag, it’d be Iverson’s. Here in his sit down with Complex, he talks about that, other sports passions early in life, being controversial, a new documentary (to ‘splain it all) and more.

(Yuuup… he touches on that rap album he had, too.)

Jamie Foxx & Jimmy Fallon Play ‘Wheel Of Musical Impressions’ On ‘The Tonight Show’ (Video)

Jamie Foxx is a fool! Great clip from The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Fallon invited Foxx to play the Musical Impressions Generator: where Foxx is given the name of an artist to impersonate and a quirky song to sing in their voice. Foxx got the likes of John Legend and Jennifer Hudson cold. Fallon did his mimic thing with Barry Gibb and Bruce Springsteen. Hilarity all around!

John Coltrane in 1966, as told Frank Kofsky

Realness. Straight from November 1966. Frank Kofsky spending a day with the great jazz saxophonist John Coltrane, conversing as they rode about and made stops here and there in Huntington, New York. Coltrane had just turned 40. He would die from liver cancer less than a year later.

Unsung: DeBarge (Video)

Before Michael Jackson split from his band of brothers, and for a while after, the music world (and the world at large) was constantly asking ‘Who would be the next Jackson 5?’ The answer at one time would have definitely been DeBarge. But right when they were right there as a family, something… a lot of things, actually… went terribly wrong. The large family from Grand Rapids (Michigan, USA) had it all in the 1980s – the looks, the sound, the fans, growing fame worldwide. But then things took a sadly familiar downturn that comes with having it all (way past enough). Industry and social pressures, addictions and more… caused them to lose the most important thing – each other. After that – the split – came bigger and harder losses.

A powerful Unsung on DeBarge (full episode above).
