Stretch And Bobbito: Radio That Changed Lives (Trailer)

Well, the Kickstarter Fundraising Campaign obviously went well. And now (drum roll), click play above for the trailer for “Stretch And Bobbito: Radio That Changed Lives.”

During the 1990s, Stretch and Bobbito introduced the world to an unsigned Nas, Biggie, Wu-Tang, and Big Pun as well as an unknown Jay-Z, Eminem, and The Fugees. The total record sales for all the artists that premiered on their radio show exceed 300 million. The late night program had a cult following in the art/fashion world and prison population as well. All would loyally tune in for the humor just as much for the exclusive tunes. Stretch and Bobbito brought a unique audience together, and created a platform that changed music forever.

The movie will be available via Vimeo On Demand on October 22, 2015. Hit the link to pre-order.

Pioneer Supermodel Beverly Johnson Talks About Being Drugged By Bill Cosby, A One Night Stand With Mike Tyson And More (Video)

Okay, she is there because she is promoting a book. But c’mon son… you KNOW Sway would ask about what she said about The Coz and the druggings (being that Beverly Johnson was one of the first to affirm that Bill was dropping ’em with the drinks… allegedly). And the book is chock full of ‘Scandal’ level messiness besides that – rivalries between models, messing with that ‘white girl’ (e.g. cocaine), Mike Tyson… Verrrry interesting.

From being the first Black model on the cover of Vogue to building an international empire, the lovely Beverly Johnson stopped by Sway in the Morning to talk about her new book, The Face That Changed it All: A Memoir.

AUTOGRAPHED BOOK: BEVERLY JOHNSON – THE FACE THAT CHANGED IT ALL: A MEMOIR

The Kickstarter Fundraising Campaign For ‘Stretch And Bobbito: Radio That Changed Lives’ Is Going On Now (Video)

A chance to contribute to the film that documents the contribution of two Hip-Hop radio icons. Man, Scarface was just talking about Stretch & Bobbito during that last radio interview we just posted here. Talk about full circle!

Peace! Stretch and Bobbito here, 25 years after our first WKCR broadcast. We’re amped to share the history of our landmark show in a feature length documentary titled STRETCH AND BOBBITO: RADIO THAT CHANGED LIVES (www.stretchandbobbito.com). The film, produced by Omar Acosta, was co-produced by us with Kool Bob Love directing and Stretchy music supervising. A classic combo, yo!

The documentary film is all but a reality, having surpassed its fundraising goal. But we linked the Kickstarter… still got a few days to kick in on it. The film is due out October 2015.

(Whew! Do you see all the folks that fell through the show back then??? History!)

Scarface Keeps It Real About Hip-Hop, Reminisces About Eazy-E & N.W.A. Back In The Day And More (Video)

Sometimes it takes seeing it through the eyes of an O.G. who you thought had seen it all… to get back your appreciation of it. Right off the bat, Scarface is making a big deal about his latest NY trip. The Power 105 Breakfast Club presses him to describe the ‘what’ that had him excited: It was Hip-Hop, NYC and Hip-Hop in NYC! Truth was, until this latest August trip he had not seen a real ‘jam in the park’ – no superstars, no ‘turn up’ – just the people jamming to Hip-Hop in the park. And he comes to New York a lot… Hell, he’s been to the Apple enough to know how to catch the train…

And yet, we NEVER get tired of Uncle Face’s interviews. Check this one out: Talking about being himself and staying himself (Scarface, Brad Jordan, no turn up; but no disrespect to the youth who do) this time out; talking about how he is in no hurry to see ‘Straight Outta Compton’ (because he was there when everything they are talking about happened); what’s going on with Geto Boys and their last tour and more.

  • On cell phones/cameras: There are some places they just should not be.
  • On stand-up comedy: It’s my therapy… I’m just on stage trying not to go crazy.
  • On the his son in the business: He’s got to learn. You gotta make bad deals to learn to make good deals. He’s got kids to feed.
  • On holiday gift-giving: Christmas is for kids. Don’t need another tie.
  • On SNL: Got fired after just SEVEN shows (the story of what he did to GET fired though…wow)!!
  • On In Living Color: It was the stuff I was TRYING to do at SNL.
  • On family unity: Mom said ‘With 10 of you kids, you should never lose a fight. And if you beef with each other, kiss in the mouth!’

And Damon speaking on Bill Cosby… Naawww maaaan. No hints… YOU gotta watch for yourself (WOW)!!

Dr. Umar Johnson Gets Detailed on ‘The Breakfast Club’ About Issues Affecting the Black Community (Video)

Although I don’t speak with Dr. Umar Johnson on a regular basis I still consider him a friend. I went to school with Umar Johnson before he became “Dr. Umar” & it wasn’t uncommon for us to have many conversations years ago about what’s going on within the black community. Not only are we both from North Philly, but we have both served as the President of our school’s Black Student Union at different times. We’ve organized & traveled to the historic Million Man March in D.C. with a large group of brothers as well has having mentored young students through an organization called ‘Positive Images’ back in Pennsylvania for a few years.  He was always an avid debater on a variety of issues & always held true to his convictions.  Rarely have I’ve seen him back down from a heated debate even if it centered on something as simple as hip hop music or sports during lunch in the cafeteria.  One thing that I can co-sign is that Umar has always been consistent in who he was & in his beliefs.

So of course it’s difficult for me to believe any of his recent detractors who try to say he’s anything less than authentic. Dr. Umar Johnson didn’t just pop up overnight because he’s been doing this for as long than I’ve known him.  I’m excited yet not surprised to see him finally breaking through with his greater message to better the situation for African-Americans & others around the world through a Pan-Africanist viewpoint. Although he continues to travel around the globe delivering his message & through a variety of grassroots lectures that most people have posted on youtube, I feel proud & happy to finally see him start to reach the audiences who best need to hear his message. It was always his life work to do what he’s doing at this very moment. Check the interview with Dr. Umar Johnson with “The Breakfast Club” at Power 105 in New York above & get some food for thought.

Scarface Speaking On Being ‘Deeply Rooted’ In Independent Music, His Best Album Ever And More (Video)

Scarface is definitely a citizen of The Universe… and a recent guest on Sway in the Morning. Good candid convo, as we have come to expect from BrotherMob’s interviews. Dropping “Deeply Rooted” on September 4, 2015, the talk around the web will likely be, at least in part, on how the work is guaranteed to be ‘real’ or ‘less commercial.’ Again, isn’t that also what we have come to expect from Uncle Face. He’ll touch on that aspect above as he speaks on ‘the best work he has ever done.’

Big talk… But real talk. Along with him admitting imitation-flattery of Chuck D’s style (and to being a crazy FANatic when it comes to PE’s “Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos”), likening his Geto Boyz to N.W.A. (maybe even a movie coming of it, similarly. Hmmmm). All that and so much more in the interview above.

I’m still winning. I have an 7th grade education, I’m dyslexic, and I’ve made millions of dollars. God bless America!
Noreaga

Yup, AND Nore is finalizing talks with Lions Gate to do a Hip-Hop food & travel show. Winning most definitely! And anybody watching this Hot 97 Morning Show interview with CNN is winning, too. These dudes are always hilarious; especially Nore. The stories he tells (like ‘Tiger Bone’). The duo gets around to talking about their album “Lessons” (out now) and “U.M.A.R.” (yoUr Man’s All Real); and also comment on the Drake vs. Meek Mill beef.

Str8outdaden x ArtByOdell Discuss The Changing Landscape Of Media From Blogs To Radio (Podcast)

So it seems everybody and they mama has a Podcast these days.  With technology people get a laptop and a mic and they think they have a radio show.  It is not truly that simple, yes technology gives everyone the chance to do their own thing without corporate restraints but it still needs to be quality.  A podcast that does a good job of having good dialogue and quality guests is the Str8outdaden show by J Good.  He provides a voice to the underground giving them tips on how to make it and navigate in this Hip Hop game.  He recently invited Beatz & Lyrics co host ArtByOdell to sit down and talk about a myriad of topics.  The two brothers discuss how artists can get their music on Blogs, Odell explained hw he got his start in radio and what he has going with his personal podcast “Odell’s RoundTable”.  It’s a great discussion with plenty of great stories like how Odell got a drop from Killer Mike at the request of Mike’s wife Shay.  Or how Punch (manager at TDE) screened ArtByOdell on the spot before he gave him access to interview the artist SZA.  Check it out plenty of great information shared in this one!

King Los Kills his Freestyle on Sway In the Morning (Video)

There was a time when if you were a rapper and you went on a Hip Hop Show guess what you did?  You would actually go on there and Rap, Freestyle at worst kick a written verse just perform at least.  This is not the case today it is not required or asked of to have artists get busy on the mic.  Sway who hosts Sway in the Morning on Sirius radio keeps the tradition alive by having emcees do what he calls the 5 fingers of death.  Where he changes up the beat and periodically throws out words that the emcee has to keep the freestyle going based off those words.  He had King Los stop by and it’s safe to say that Los snapped during this segment.  Successfully completing the 5 fingers of death and continuing to freestyle acapella for an additional two minutes on his own.  This had Sway talking his talk about wack excess along with Heather B! Pick up King Los new album God, Money War out now on iTunes

Wack emcees stay home with your broke baby mother who can’t buy you a movie screen for your video games N@!*A – Heather B
