Lebron James, King Of The Courts, Scored 57 Points To Lead His Cavaliers To Victory (Video)

Yooo! Sometimes the star is the story. King James was the [All] star this weekend, homie. Without a doubt.

Cleveland Cavaliers all-star LeBron James took off and scored 57 points. He added 11 rebounds, 7 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks in a victory against the Washington Wizards.

And check after the jump. This is how being comfortable with greatness looks…

Politics/Comedy: Clapping Back For Jemele Hill, Roy Wood Jr. Has Jokes (And Ideas) For The White House And ESPN (Video)

Roy Wood, Jr. You, sir, are a FOOL for this one. But so on point. Great segment, and an instant classic clip for ‘The Daily Show.’

Roy Wood, Jr. unpacks a White House official’s call for ESPN to fire anchor Jemele Hill after she called President Trump a white supremacist on Twitter.

I bet Jamele is cool people, even if she did straight diss the beloved ‘Awful Waffle’ (ahaahahaaa)!

DL Hughley Salutes Co-Host Michael Smith And Others At ESPN For Having Jemele Hill’s Back At ESPN (Video)

Wow! If this is true… wow! Talk about sticking together. Michael Smith, risking his career, apparently told ESPN something like ‘I refuse to do the show if you let Jamele Hill go!’ He backed his co-host – willing to sacrifice his livelihood – and so did a small army of others. Yes, before ESPN could even consider kicking Smith out, too, Elle Duncan and Michael Eaves stepped on some ‘if they go, so do WE’ stuff. Even Michael Wilbon took some air time to vocalize strong support for Hill.

I really hope DL has the scoop on what is a true, and truly beautiful, story of solidarity. That’s how you get your people’s back!

Ray Allen Knows His Move From Boston To Miami Was Hard On The Fans. But Management & Teammates, They Should Understand… It Was Business (Video)

Plain talk from former Celtics standout Ray Allen. Here he is in Shanghai, telling his side of the story. In essence, he is letting viewers & fans know that it wasn’t him wanting to leave Boston, it was the Celtics… not doing what it took to keep him there. No beef with nobody on his side, even though some folks apparently reeeeally had HEAT for him for taking his talents to South Beach.

Ray Allen spoke in an exclusive interview with Tencent’s Lisa Hsu about the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Paul Pierce and being a champion. Tencent, ESPN’s partner in China, is hosting its annual Super Penguin Basketball Celebrity Game in Shanghai.
– ESPN

Makes some good points in this interview. Pro sports is BUSINESS, not personal. And there is NO loyalty. The Celts could have dropped Allen, and that would be that; not a tear shed.

Paul George Talks About Moving To OKC And Building With Russell Westbrook (Video)

They’re not looking at me as a Kevin Durant replacement, but as a new face of OKC.
Paul George

Okay. That’s one in a roomful of elephants in the room. Paul getting along with former fiery (Paul’s word) opponent turned teammate Russell Westbrook (you know, the current ‘face’ of the Oklahoma City Thunder). That’s another. And ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski does ask about that.

The crazy sports universe and the buzz about as a result of all these pro ball league blue chips flipping (and landing). Wow. And a discussion about another Paul’s impactful move and the potential for another team’s championship run next season. We go from talking of CP3 earlier to talking about PG13, Paul George, going to OKC.

Similar lines of discussion laid out in this clip as in ESPN’s clip on CP3’s move from former to future team, too. And the clip above does ‘include’ Paul’s cute kid (like earlier in CP3’s) but we just see the child (and Paul’s wifey…nice!). This interview is all Paul. Good stuff.

Chris Paul Speaks On Leaving The Clippers And Linking Up With James Harden And The Rockets To Win A Championship Ring (Video)

This just in: Chris Paul is now a Houston Rocket.

Sorta. The news is a couple of days old. But the shock waves are still being felt, and the impact of the collapse of whatever ‘bridge’ between Paul and the Clippers organization… Well, folks are gonna try to put some scale to that in the months to come; no doubt. But the nuances in this clip – Paul’s poised (carefully worded) responses to questions, how joining James Harden on a new team might play out and even how cute Paul’s son’s (little Chris) wishes for his competitive dad “played” out – make for an intriguing watch.

Chris Paul sits down with Shelley Smith and talks about his six-year run with the Clippers, his relationship with James Harden and the challenge of stopping the Warriors.

Sports: Floyd Mayweather And Conor McGregor Will Fight August 26th (Video)

The fans wanted to see this fight… and it will be the biggest fight ever in the history of two people punching each other.
– UFC President Dana White

Respect for the sweet science or claims of cage fighting’s supremacy aside, Dana’s probably right. This fight has plenty of haters, each of its combatants have plenty of haters, and both boxing and UFC have haters. With that much hateration – and even more folks who follow either or both Mayweather and McGregor in the nation – this is another event to net Floyd triple figures easy!

And some pretty juicy scraps for everyone else involved.

Like it or love it (and Stephen A. will tell you which L he’s taking above, hahaa)… the fight is on! Hitting pay-per-view screens in August… It’s Showtime!

Sports: Lebron James’ Free Throw Style Is In A Constant State Of Change (Video)

Lebron James has had yet another stellar season, and talk of him replacing Air Jordan as the heir to the title of Best Baller Of All. His free throw game has been kind of lame (on the low) but he has been trying to fix it. Trying VERY hard. And ESPN has been eyeballing and has taken the time to elucidate every time King James has changed his style up in an attempt to do better at the line.

Damn. They even gave each switch up name!

Kobe Bryant Explains How The Warriors Work To Weaken Opponents’ Defenses (Video)

Communication is key. The confusion the Warriors create by their play confounds opponents attempts to communicate with each other as they attempt to keep up. Out of touch, out of step, opponents end up out of the playoffs. Ask San Antonio.

And there it is. A lot to take in, right? Well, the Mamba might be able to break it down. He’s pretty good at breaking things down (like defenses). Watch above.

In the next episode of Canvas, Kobe Bryant looks at the Warriors’ rare style and how it breaks down their opponents.
– ESPN

Liking ESPN’s ’70s stylized documentary presentation for this episode. The Golden Democracy. Cool.

Philadelphia 76’er Joel Embiid Makes A Play For Rihanna At The Bar (Video)

I mean… look at myself!

Hahaaaaa! You know how some athletes might clam up, play tough or off-brush when talk show hosts hint at blatantly push a love-life line of questionning? That is NOT Joel Embiid’s problem…AT ALL!

Shoot your shot, player! Not mad at you. Of course, you might consider that Jamele Hill is looking pretty nice and Kelly Rowland is hella sexy (as always); and they’re right there.

Because we’re considering it. Yeaaahhh, considering all that right now…

ESPN President John Skipper Speaks At The Tuskegee University Commencement And…

…it was a CELEBRATION! Strike up the band… the best band in the land, the Tuskegee University Golden Virtuosos!!

Wow. I have a LOT of family and friends who are Tuskegee Institute and Tuskegee University alumni. I may well have attended myself, but The University Of Alabama ended up being the best option (financially, mainly) for continuing my education post-high school. However, anyone who grew up in ‘Skegee can tell you that TU and the town that surrounds it are bound in many ways; especially on Football Saturdays (Homecoming Weekend = Off The Meter!) and special commemorations. So, I may not be a TU alum, but I am a true Tuskegeean (46!)… and trust me, that is way past close enough for me join in celebrating this.

See more footage and some of what students and Presidents Skipper and Johnson had to say on this occasion after the jump.

(Wonder if any of this made SportsCenter over the weekend? Best bet for worthy coverage is ESPN’s ‘The Six’ with Jemele Hill and Michael Smith.)

Lakers Vs. Celtics (ESPN 30-For-30 Trailer)

We had no respect for ’em… none… zero!

“Lakers Vs. Celtics.” Bird vs. Johnson. Respect earned, but NO LOVE LOST! NOWWWW we go to school… Old school!!

Back in the day, in the ’80s, there were no damned exclusive ‘banana boat’ excursions or summer b-ball buddy camps with NBA rivals getting together. F**k no! There was PRIDE. There was WINNING. There was HATE – for the other team, and worse, for losing to them!

Purely rhetorical: How do you feel about today’s basketball? Are the rivalries fiery? Is it easy to get out of bed the next morning when your team loses? Do you think it really hurts your team’s players to their hearts when they lose?

Yeah. Bet money today’s game is nowhere near as raw as it was back then. And this ESPN 30-For-30 will show you real rivalry was lived by two of the NBA’s elite franchises.

DL Hughley Speaks On ESPN’s Sage Steele Firing, White Privilege, & Fox News Anchor Bill O’Reilly (Video)

Deeeeem! It’s cold out here for Sage Steele now that the ESPN door got slammed, esp. in the Hughley-verse.

More than that, in this short clip, DL went IN on the FoxNews x Bill O’Reilly situation in the right way… Hell, I remember having genuine HEAT for FoxNews’ ‘Papa Bear’ when he attacked Ludacris on his show (attempted character assassination); when Pepsi dumped Luda as a spokesperson (by the way, eff Pepsi for that.. I’m a Pepper)!

Go In-Depth With ‘Common’ and ‘Serena Williams’ On ESPN’s “The Undefeated” (Video)

Quick! When you conjure up a visual of a dude sitting down to talk to his ex, what do you think? Cringeworthy viewing, right? Well, nah. Kind of a trick question if you aren’t told that it’s the renaissance revolutionary cool rapper Common. And his ex? Oh that’s super sexy tennis star Serena Williams. Much better imagery in your mind now, of course.

On this ESPN’s The Undefeated: In-DepthSerena and Common… speaking on fame, sports, and race and gender issues. Start above and continue after the jump.

ESPN’s 30 For 30: This Was The XFL (Trailer)

This trailer is intriguing. Check it out.

ESPN, the world’s sports leader, is going to do a documentary on the XFL, the failed football league borne of and bearing more than a slight resemblance to Vince McMahon’s leading sports entertainment franchise, World Wrestling Entertainment. Any televised sport has to be entertaining enough to bring eyeballs and ad revenue, right? So maybe Vince thought he could put out an entertaining football program with no sweat. Whatever the motivations and machinations behind the result and resulting demise, we should learn something watching this 30 For 30.

(Speaking of learning something… Do you know what XFL stood for? Answer: It was NOT Xtreme Football League! It was not an acronym at all. Learned something already, huh?)

Outside The Lines: Greg Oden After His Pro Basketball Career Was Cut Short (Video)

Damn. Greg Oden described himself as ‘the biggest bust in NBA history’ (damn, and damn again). There is a very somber tone to this whole interview. More coming to grips than moving on. Though leaving due to injury and going back to school should be seen as just that.

How would you describe your career now?

I don’t have one right now…

Short and not really sweet. Watch.

NBA Standout Dwayne Wade Speaks On Leaving The Heat For The Windy City And Getting A Warm Reception And More (Video)

It’s only a six-minute clip but there is a lot in there (including precious seconds of screen time with gorgeous wifey Gabrielle Union). D Wade joining D Rose in Chicago certainly signals the Bulls desire to win rings, but other things ring true in this clip. Concerned about making the most of his remaining time (even referencing his long-gone youth, when he was ‘able to sit Indian style’ and dream about playing for the Bulls), getting the best contract and competitive situation for himself…all that and more…factored into Dwayne Wade’s decision to make that move from Miami. Watch him talk all about it above.

Dwayne Wade speaks with Cari Champion about his decision to sign with his hometown Chicago Bulls, his welcoming discussion with Jimmy Butler, and what message LeBron James and Chris Paul told him before signing.

(SportsCenter’s Cari Champion is definitely looking lovely in this interview, too. Bonus!)

Ali: The Mission (Mini-Documentary)

Even before The Champ’s passing, you’ve probably heard about his nobility and heroism outside the ring. Given that, this 30-For-30 documentary short’s content may not shock you; but the story should warm your heart and make you miss him a little bit more.

Ambassador Ali. Fighting Parkinson’s all while winning over folks worldwide including Saddam Hussein; which was key. You’ll see why when you watch.

(Narrated by John Legend.)
