NBA Standout Dwayne Wade Speaks On Leaving The Heat For The Windy City And Getting A Warm Reception And More (Video)

It’s only a six-minute clip but there is a lot in there (including precious seconds of screen time with gorgeous wifey Gabrielle Union). D Wade joining D Rose in Chicago certainly signals the Bulls desire to win rings, but other things ring true in this clip. Concerned about making the most of his remaining time (even referencing his long-gone youth, when he was ‘able to sit Indian style’ and dream about playing for the Bulls), getting the best contract and competitive situation for himself…all that and more…factored into Dwayne Wade’s decision to make that move from Miami. Watch him talk all about it above.

Dwayne Wade speaks with Cari Champion about his decision to sign with his hometown Chicago Bulls, his welcoming discussion with Jimmy Butler, and what message LeBron James and Chris Paul told him before signing.

(SportsCenter’s Cari Champion is definitely looking lovely in this interview, too. Bonus!)

Ha! Austin got a shot in on his Dad / Coach Doc Rivers… cracking on them short shorts! Interesting Ride Along episode by VICE Sports.

Austin Rivers is one of the more polarizing players in the NBA. It could be the Duke thing, it could be the confident on-court demeanor, it could be because he’s playing for his dad. We rode shotgun with Austin as he waxed on his tough transition to pro ball, being traded early in his career, and of course the ups and downs of playing for a legendary coach who happens to be your father.

Dallas Mavericks’ Chandler Parsons Speaks On Facing Kobe Bryant One More Time, The ‘Deandre Jordan Situation’ And More (Video)

After signing a contract with Mark Cuban at a Dallas night club, Chandler Parsons became the Mavericks’ chief recruiter for Deandre Jordan. That… didn’t quite work out. In this Ride Along, Chandler recounts the tug-of-war over his longtime friend, his growth from a petulant and overlooked kid at the University of Florida to a respected NBA veteran, and his thoughts on facing Kobe one last time at the Staples Center.

(VICE Sports with another good clip. Parsons’ pre-game prep music selection though… Kobe’s in trouble after that sh!t. Hahaaaaa!)

Former Ole Miss Rebel Marshall Henderson Patting The Rock In Iraq (Video)

A lot of people aren’t cut out for this… coming to a warring country or whatever…
Marshall Henderson

And BOOM! This is how VICE Sports kicks off its ROAM series. Marshall’s a long way from the Rebel Nation, and the NBA, but he is still making it in pro-basketball. Watch VICE Sports get to globetrotting to hang out in Iraq, latest home to former Ole Miss (on- & off-court) standout Marshall Henderson and get his story.

Marshall Henderson had one of the most infamous runs in NCAA Basketball history, dominating the SEC with his three point shot at Ole Miss (while also running into trouble with coaches/opposing fans/the law/etc.).

Then he went undrafted, and fizzled out of the NBA’s D-League. Now he’s in the massive and convoluted international basketball pipeline, playing wherever he can. His latest stop: Naft Al-Janoob of the Iraqi Division I Basketball League in Basra, scene to some of the most vicious battles of the Iraqi War and a city that continues to experience its share of violence.

Nate Robinson: Is A Pro Football Career A Slam Dunk For The Former NBA All-Star? (Video)

You’ve watched sports contests on the tube, and from time to time likely thought, “Look at the big man. He could bowl ’em over on the field as easily as he bangs down low to the bucket,” or… “Dude can move! Even at his size, he’s dunking over the crossbar AFTER leaving everybody 20 yards behind!”

Let’s call them crossover [football or basketball] ballers. Now, who among the retired greats of one sport do you think could come back and do the damn thang in the other? Quickly… times up! How about Nate Robinson? Is anybody thinking Nate Robinson can do it? Well, Nate is…and he could give a damn whether you agree or not.

The Phife Sports Network (PSN): Phife Dawg Narrates & Provides Game Analysis of Toronto Raptors vs. Los Angeles Clippers in Mini-Documentary (Video)

In case some of you may not be aware, Phife Dawg of the legendary rap group A Tribe Called Quest has been very active & vocal in sports for quite a number of years. In recent years he has appeared on ESPN, ESPN2, & various sportstalk radio programs around the country giving his opinion on everything from the NBA, NFL, NCAA College Basketball & more. There were rumors that Phife had some bigger plans in the works to further expand his sportscaster resume, but nothing stopping him from at least making inroads independently online with his own “PSN” or ‘Phife Sports Network.’ Check out one of the first video clips of Phife Dawg providing pre-game NBA analysis in great game that took place between the Toronto Raptors & the Los Angeles Clippers about a month ago on February 6th of this year. Phife Dawg & his manager DJ Rasta Root also performed at halftime while they were in Toronto that evening as well. In case you missed the footage from that, we have it below….

Kevin Garnett Makes Heroic Return To The Minnesota Timberwolves (Video)

Kevin Garnett started his NBA career as 19-year-old kid with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Unfortunately after 12 years he left the Timberwolves, eventually winning a championship with the Boston Celtics, but that didn’t stop fans T-wolves fans from welcoming back KG to the team he spent the majority of his career with. The energy was so high that even a shirt-less KG fan with ‘KG’ written on his chest was in full show out mode. Over the years KG has been one of my favorite players in the NBA & it’s going to be sad to see him leave the game. KG maybe near the end of his NBA career, but his leadership with Andre Wiggins & that young Timberwolves squad could surely leave an impact.

New Orleans’ NBA Franchise Should Change Name To “Scorpions” While Anthony Davis Is Becoming A Star (Video)

It’s no question that Anthony Davis is going to be a significant star in the NBA, but I just wish New Orleans would change the name of that dang franchise. I mean c’mon man…. The Pelicans?! I’ve said it on twitter several times over they should change the name to the “New Orleans Scorpions.” Ever since the Charlotte Bobcats changed their name back to Hornets they’ve had impressive sales & huge response from fans in the city. I believe if New Orleans would switch to “Scorpions” they would do the same. I know I spent too much time on this issue instead of Anthony Davis, but I just had to get it off my chest. Make it happen New Orleans

Muscle & Fitness: How A 5’5 Basketball Player Trained Himself To Dunk (Video)

You know… when you grow up to be 5’5″ tall, and play basketball… you can get so far. Someone will coach you up; let you play… like through high school or so. After that you are likely on your own. At 5’5″ and want to slam dunk? Man, you are on your own!

Fine by Brandon Todd. He decided he wanted to dunk…hard. So tried hard, studied hard, worked out extraordinarily HARD and applied what he learned (about physical development)… and… well, watch!

“You see someone small. Don’t count them out!”

Great story. Inspirational. Call the kids over to watch with you.

AEBL 3-pt dunkConsidered to be Atlanta’s answer to NY’s Rucker Park, the AEBL (Atlanta Entertainment Basketball League) continues to grow quickly in popularity in only what I believe to be it’s second full season of existence. NBA stars such as Kevin Durant, Dwight Howard & many other entertainers have come out in support & to take in the games. This weekend proves to be no different & only better.  It’s playoff time with the ‘final four’ of the tournament games taking place tonight at 6pm & the final championship game on Sunday in addition to a 3-point & Slam Dunk contest. If you happen to be in Atlanta, this is something you may definitely want to come out at Central Park 400 Merrits Ave in Atlanta. Shouts out to @AEBLHoops!

‘Mission Impossible’ aka Jordan Kilganon in ‘White Men Can Jump’ (Video)

He’s not exactly ‘White Chocolate’ by looking at his hairstyle or swagger, but 6’1 basketball player Jordan Kilganon got busy up in New York City’s Rucker Park last week with a series of ill dunks. I believe the host of the event gave him the nickname ‘Mission Impossible’ loosely based on Jordan’s Tom Cruise inspired hair cut. Hahaaaaa! No matter what it’s easy to see ‘Mr. Mission Impossible’ has some hydraulics in his legs. Skill is skill son & Woody Harrelson’s character in the 1992 film ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ would be proud. Maybe he’ll come down & make an appearance in Atlanta this weekend with NBA stars like Dwight Howard for the ABEL (Atlanta Entertainment Basketball League)‘s upcoming 3-point & Slam Dunk contest this Sunday 8/8/14. The ABEL is Atlanta’s version of what goes down at the Rucker in New York City with games taking place Saturday at 6pm  & contests on Sunday.  Shouts to HoodMixtape & @AEBLHOOPS

Jimmy Fallon x Lebron James – “Wastepaper Basketball” (Video)

A couple of things are clear by now. Jimmy Fallon (1) loves Hip-Hop (especially from the 1980s) AND (2) loves putting together surprise duet sketches that make jaws drop in the happiest reminiscing ways. This one above. A remake of “Basketball” by Mr. Kurtis Blow (uh-huh-huh-huh-huh)… that he calls “Wastepaper Basketball”… featuring NBA Champion Heat flown in from Miami… Lebron James! And yeah, they both flow on this. Click play and watch ’em play; and just try not to smile. Salute to The Tonight Show.

“I Am Philadelphia”: Allen Iverson Reflects on his Career with the Philadelphia 76ers (Video)

Last night the Philadelphia 76ers retired future hall of famer Allen Iverson’s jersey number & it was a special night in the city. It was clear that A.I. embraced Philly just as much as we embraced him. Allen Iverson was a high profile athlete who repped my hometown, but he was the personification of what being from Philadelphia was all about. Tough, hardworking, blue collar, & fearless.

Julius Erving aka ‘DR. J’ Says He Would Not Build An NBA Team Around Carmelo Anthony (Video)

NBA Hall Of Famer & former Philadelphia 76er Julius Erving stopped by ESPN2’s program ‘SPORTSNATION’ to talk basketball. When the topic of Carmelo Anthony & the NY Knicks came up, Dr. J didn’t pull any punches as to what’s wrong with the franchise.  I’ve said it many times before that “Dr. J” was Michael Jordan BEFORE ‘Air Jordan’ but ‘Dr. J’ didn’t always have the help he needed to win multiple championships. Michael Jordan is viewed by many people as the greatest to ever play the game, but it took Phil Jackson to convince him to slow down from being an aggressive scorer early in MJ’s career so that the Bulls could properly build around him. When asked if Carmelo Anthony is the right guy to build around in order for the Knicks to win one or more championships, Dr. J kept it honest that he didn’t have faith in Melo being the right guy.  I believe Lebron James is the greatest to ever play the game & he’s not even done yet, but the kid from Akron recognized early that he needed the proper pieces around him to solidify multiple championships in efforts to silence the critics & cement himself in the G.O.A.T. argument.
