Interview
Pharrell And Others Talk Virginia, Influences, Memories And More (Video)
Beats 1 and OTHERtone studio was loaded down with the Down South: Pusha T, D.R.A.M. and Fam-Lay. And, hey, Pharrell Williams. It doesn’t get much more VA than that player.
Pharrell Williams and Scott Vener in the OTHERtone studio with Pusha T, D.R.A.M. and Fam-Lay. Tune in on Beats 1 every other Sunday at 12PM PT / 3PM ET.
Behind “The Breaks” (Ep. 7) [Video]
Somehow you gotta expect to hear ‘these are the breaks’ don’t you? Sway show instant pedigree to get the story behind the story in his opening talk-off. When it comes to industry insiders, he is no slouch. But he goes further, not just I-know-a-guy but putting us onto one of THE guys… Kevin Liles. If anyone can tell the story of a ‘Foray’ street music exec of the ’90s, best believe Def Jam Alum Liles can.
Sway talks with Kevin Liles of 300 Entertainment about how to build a record label, competing against other labels for an artist, and advice for sustaining a successful career in the music industry.

Ludacris And Tyrese Speak On Recent Media Controversies, The Latest ‘Fast & Furious’ Movie And More (Video)
Ha! Pepsi AND Bill O’Reilly are both under fire, and they both dissed the sh!t out of Ludacris back in the day. Now Luda is doing pretty damn good… and they are NOT! Ohhhhh, success is the BEST revenge!
Tyrese & Ludacris keep it all the way 100 in The Breakfast Club studio, talk new music, “Fate of the Furious” & More.
And coming for Tyrese about weave, fake butts and such is not the best move. His rebuttal game is on point. Maybe don’t hate on a dude solely for expressing opinions and living life. He is not your boyfriend, nor is he feeding you or your fam.
(But they are gonna go all the way up to a 10th ‘Fast & Furious’ movie though? Whoa.)
“The O’Reilly Factor With Donald Trump” On SNL (Video)
Bill O’Reilly and President Donald Trump get the spoofing of a lifetime! Alec Baldwin gave ’em the BUSINESS!! Imitation is the highest form of comedy in this clip. Bwaaaahahaaa!

BJ The Chicago Kid Is Asked, “Why Does Future Mumble?” And More On ‘Arts & Raps’ (Video)
BJ The Chicago Kid said Future has a sippy cup… aaaand that’s where we get started with some serious snapping!! Then the kid (not BJ, one of the others) disses Hov… Yoooo! This video is hardcore, funny and more.
Rising and soulful singer, BJ The Chicago Kid, joins the show to answer, “Why Does Future Mumble?” See an interview of a lifetime in this week’s episode of All Def Digital’s Arts and Raps!
Plus, the kid can carry a tune. Great episode of Arts and Raps.
(And c’mon Hollywood. Make that ‘Equalizer’ sequel and cast BJ as the star; defending the hardware store against another gang of bad guys. Call it ‘Equalizer II: Security And Justice For All!’ Cut the check, and send it here. The kids’ll love it!)
Joey Bada$$ Says New York Hip-Hop Is Stale And New York Radio Is Not Helping (Video)
Respect to Joey Bada$$. We listen to him on that mic because when he touches mics, he continually earns that respect. Take in what he is saying about the stagnation in Hip-Hop. What he is saying about how things must and do change, including Hip-Hop. Caution: It’s gonna sting a bit of you are a boom-bap-over-trap or new-stuff-is-not-real-rap proponent. There must be a righteous middle ground though. Joey calling old heads on holding the youth in the game back… saying that to ‘Old Man Ebro‘… that’s some live and direct sh!t. But as an early 20-something who’s pretty much a vet, we have to let him say it.
Maybe we should really try to give space on the established (read: old) channels for new artists out here.
Now, of course, there is much more to this interview. But that part packs a punch.
(Okay, Joey. Message received. But we reserved the right to trash trash music.)
Louie CK’s Got Shots For Trump, Obama, Non-Voters… And Jokes & Chat For Stephen Colbert (Vote)
One dude… Just ONE dude in the Colbert audience admitted to being a Trump supporter. WHERE are all these voters for President Trump (rhetorical, please don’t feel compelled to respond). Hilarious, but somehow still thoughtful & thought-provoking, host Stephen Colbert has Louie CK on the show – talking Trump and more.
Louis CK regrets comparing Donald Trump to Hitler. But he’s not going to take it back.
Interestingly enough, CK (who is clearly NOT a President Trump supporter) expressed sympathy for the sole supporter of The Donald; sorry that dude and those of his ilk fell prey to a ‘Dirty Rotten Lying Sack Of Sh!t’ (Louie’s words).

Snoop And Gabriel Iglesias ‘Huff & Puff’ And Talk About Stuff On GGN (Video)
Double G got that oowee! Not just that sticky that has comedian Gabriel coughing up a lung… but that Stormy Frontz… OOWEE!! Made Snoop do a walkthrough during the ‘report’ to get a better view 😉

‘Ride Along’ with NBA Icon & Former Philadelphia 76’er Julius ‘Dr J.’ Erving (Video)
Yooooo! Two of the hoop game’s greatest getting to the pawing, furious with the fisticuff stuff, on the floor back in the day. Different kind of b-ball Hall Of Fame moment to be certain!
We met up with Julius Erving at All-Star Weekend to discuss the ABA, his infamous fight with Larry Bird and the evolution of dunking from the free throw line.
Plus we get Dr. J speaking about ‘The Rucker.’ Good interview. All that and a pair of Converse. Philly!
‘Sneaker Shopping’ With Shoe & Microphone Fiend Joey Bada$$ (Video)
His dream shoe might be the All Day I Dream About… ya know. But you gotta dream about a possible dream collaboration between Joey Bad and ADIDAS. If you are into the shoe game heavy, that is.
Joey Bada$$ goes Sneaker Shopping with Joe La Puma at Alumni in Brooklyn, and talks growing up as a Jordan head and the mix of sneakers with politics.
Interesting. Joey comments on the former First Daughter from last administration rocking a Pro Era tee. Then he comments on Under Armour’s honcho stumping for the current President, Donald Trump. Kinda makes Joey Bada$$ a two-term political pundit. When it comes to apparel maybe. Maybe.
Ha! Watch and learn a bit Joey’s aspirations (non-political, basketball), choices in kicks (including a possible pick for his pops) and more.
Rewind: Judge Joe Brown Says James Earl Ray Didn’t Assassinate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr (Video)
It’s been almost 50 years to this date, April 4th, that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr was assassinated in Memphis Tennessee. Judge Joe Brown was the last judge to preside over alleged shooter, James Earl Ray’s case. To this very day Judge Joe Brown still believes “he didn’t kill him.” Judge Joe Brown says he didn’t believe Ray was the gunman despite his guilty plea. Joe Brown denied that he was involved in Dr. King’s murder but plead guilty because he felt it was in his best interest under the circumstances given.
The Making Of De La Soul’s “Three Feet High And Rising”
Mass Appeal kept the storytelling going; beyond its dope documentary effort “De La Soul Is Not Dead” (posted on here earlier) to tell the story of how the trio’s seminal album (“Three Feet High And Rising”) ultimately came to be.
…we dig deeper into the De La files to bring you an untold story in the words of two Tommy Boy Records staffers. Rod Houston—who elevated from mail room, to assistant to Tom Silverman, to the head of the label’s music video department—and Bryan Adams, the label’s long-time head of publicity. During an interview that didn’t make the final cut for the film, they shared details of De La Soul’s earliest studio sessions, how De La first got down with Tommy Boy and why their debut album almost didn’t include that monster hit that would change the course of their lives forever.
Tommy Boy Records, George Clinton…Â and they went all the way back to early Stetsasonic. Wow. Worthy reading!
Samuel L. Jackson Speaks On “Kong,” Black People In Film & TV, President Trump And More (Video)
Samuel L. Jackson talks about President Trump, racism in America, Hollywood’s casting of British Black actors in ‘American’ roles, “Kong: Skull Island,” and more. See? Waaaay more than just the 2 controversial minutes here or there the gossip sites are gushing about.
(Google that sh!t if you like. We don’t do that here.)
But something else of note: Jackson, in response to Ebro’s lead-in, touches on the historical racist undertones in all the “King Kong” movies (like we did on here). Yeah. Talk more about that mainstream.
Hiplet: Now Hip-Hop Is En Pointe (Video)
I will admit to turning a ‘side eye’ to Hip-Hop dance brought into a ballet milieu. Though I was not mad like the why-are-THOSE-PEOPLE-invading-our-artful-dance ballet purists. I was mad like F##K-their-fancy-shmancy-dancy-sh!t, we got our OWN legit dance practiced by the WORLDWIDE Hip-Hop Nation!
But seeing this helped me realize that whatever we do that aspires to LOVE, PEACE, UNITY, and HAVING FUN (word to Africa Bambatta and Soul Brother #1 Mr. James Brown) is a good thing.
A man of color forges a new art form that allows anyone to be down; first and foremost the have-nots and those previously left out. That art form grows, gets embraced by those for whom it was meant and is spread to, through and by everyone who enjoys it. Sound like a familiar story? This IS Hip-Hop showing its essence in another form, no less true. And it is beautiful.
So are the ladies doing it in the above mini-documentary. Wowee-wow-WOW. I love these HIPS… I mean Hiplet dancers!
(Hey, they are fine af ok? You see ’em. And if you’re mad at that, you can stay mad. Ha!)
Watch this. Enlightenment awaits. I was thoroughly edutained (educated and entertained, word to KRS-ONE). Bet you will be, too!

Rolling With Roc Marciano In ‘The Smokebox’ (Video)
Always think about that Xzibit opening line, “You don’t wanna hotbox with me,” when coming across these. Actually, smoker or not… kinda feel like we all do. Stuff can get crazy, but peering through the smoke, we always learn things about the guest and their direction in these sessions. Next up: Roc Marciano toking and talking.
Roc Marciano talks with B-REAL about his long awaited new album, “Rosebudds Revenge,”. Longevity in the game, his start with Busta Rhymes & his new upcoming project with DJ Muggs on this episode of The Smokebox.
Something right about bringing your producer (Animoss) along for the ‘ride.’ Good session Roc.
CBS Sports Football Analyst & Former Executive Amy Trask Speaks On Former Raiders Owner Al Davis, Front Office Philosophies And More (Video)
Fix your offensive line first… Now that’s an exec (not an armchair QB, or some think-they-know-it-all) talking! Heed the words of Amy Trask. Because RAIDER NATION, and because she really makes sense. Of course, decades experience with the organization and Rich Eisen even having her on the show to talk about football, late owner Al Davis, various organizational strategies and more. Host Eisen plugs the book (“You Negotiate Like A Girl”), too, of course.
Fantastic discussion. Smart. You’ll feel informed and kind of part of the conversation. Watch.
(Watch her answer to Rich on the probability of a ‘Las Vegas’ Raiders though…)
Mack Wilds & Pete Rock Speak On Artist-Producer Chemistry, Working On The “New York: A Love Story” And More (Video)
A R&B version of “Illmatic” though? That’s how Mack Wilds describes “New York: A Love Story“ …DOPE! Interesting convo above. So interesting, you will ache realizing how fast the time flies while watching.
Sway meets up Mack Wilds (DeeVee) and Pete Rock at Platinum Studios to discuss structuring a song, the experience of recording in a studio, and the importance of chemistry between recording artist and producer.
This is a great look for ‘The Breaks’ series on VH1. RIP to Heavy D and Trouble T-Roy, too. This is Hip-Hop!
Jessica Kylie Speaks On Getting Deleted From Instagram 3 Times, Wild DMs, & Snapchats (Video)
You saw Jessica Kylie in the title and rushed right in to witness her thickness, right? I know. Yeeez! Read the titel will ya? I worked hard on it (then gave up and threw something up, haaa)!
Okay…So she is NOT anywhere near half-naked on this post. Sorry. But wait, she IS in the raw, VERY raw! This post is extremely worthwhile because, instead of the sexy pictures and videos, we learn more about her personality, experiences, and views in general than ever before… certainly more than we would in a thick-girl-in-bikini-with-music vid. Watch and understand how hard it was to pick a unique title that would cover all or most of what she talks about in here.
Very interesting!

Faith Evans Speaks On Her Memories And The Legacy Of Notorious B.I.G. And More (Video)
The Hip-Hop nation noted the passing of 20 years since the passing of Notorious B.I.G. And it seems appropos that the popularly recognized wifey of Biggie is given the mic and spotlight and time to speak on things. Got a project on hers and B.I.G.’s love (“The King & I,” due out May 19th) that she talks about, memories, Biggie’s legacy and more. Talks abut Lil Kim and Stevie J, too.
NBA & Chicago Bulls Star Jimmy Butler Goes ‘Sneaker Shopping’ (Video)
C’mon son! You gotta know by know that sneakers is religion! For sneakerheads, it is not just ‘shopping’… it is spiritual, ritual, and to be done right!
Jimmy Butler goes Sneaker Shopping with Joe La Puma at Saint Alfred in Chicago and talks wearing Jordans to the White House, walking away from his Adidas deal, and playing basketball with Michael Jordan.
Dude, this dude wore sneakers to the White House to chit-chat with President Obama (and bless him with a pair).
